It certainly would've been nice to have Chad Johnson.25. Philadelphia | Chad Johnson, WR, Oregon State: Johnson would have been off the board by this point in round one had it not been for his sub-par effort at the combine.Flashback to 2001, Andy Reid is sitting in his draft bunker thinking: "Freddie Mitchell? Chad Johnson? Freddie Mitchell? Chad Johnson?... I better go with Freddie Mitchell, he's such a snappy dresser"
Great post. Not a big fan of Kiper myself but based on what you pointed out I have to agree that is very impressive. With the exception of Reggie Wayne, I'd say he pretty much nailed who did/should have gone in the first round.
It seems like 24 or so usually a solid number. So 26 is above average. You'd like to see him match a few more to teams. Double digits is usually doable. Scott Wright matched 15 of the first 20 a few years ago, and Gosselin had 29 first rounders tabbed and 14 of them to the right team, iirc. So while Mel had good sources for who the 1st rounders were, he was pretty clueless in placement. He got 26 of 31 first rounders.
I agree. Not a fan of Kiper either but that's really besides the point of the post. I was just trying to point out what a different NFL it would be if these players went to the teams he predicted.Great post. Not a big fan of Kiper myself but based on what you pointed out I have to agree that is very impressive. With the exception of Reggie Wayne, I'd say he pretty much nailed who did/should have gone in the first round.
15. Washington | Santana Moss, WR, Miami (Fla.): With a huge need at WR and MLB, the Redskins have the option of looking at Moss or his college teammate, Dan Morgan.
I have to wonder if Reggiw would be the Reggie of today had he not gone to INDY? I think Chad is good enough to have succeeded anywhere. So the Raiders could have had 28. Oakland | Todd Heap, TE, Arizona State: Or Reggie Wayne Or Chad Johnson. good job Al![]()
Go to the 2005, 06, 07 drafts and look at how accurate he was. He doesn't get more than like 40% right, if that. I know I've seen him get like 3 right... that's why mock drafts are G-A-Y. Created only for the amusement of the foolishHe missed on just about every f'n pick. Clown.
Depends on who determines the value. I understand the Pats felt that Seymour and LT where the two studs in the 2001 draft. I can guarantee they value talent differently than the general public here.People forget how much of a reach Richard Seymour to the Pats seemed at the time. Worked out well for them. Went against the "gotta get value" mantra you constantly hear about now.
Obviously your ability to mind read and predict the future is far above that of the average human. Please post your PowerBall picks for this weekend. When did I ever say my picks were better? I said that's why mock drafts (draftS as in PLURAL) are stupid, because they are never right and they can't predict anything, no one really can read minds, predict who will do what. All it takes is one GM to change his mind, one player to slip, and the draft goes to hell.I don't do mock drafts for that reason. They're all based off need, and not all teams pick on need... in fact very few do now a daysEDIT: Go to ANY mock draft and see how acurate it was... it's not just Mel. All mock drafts are dumb. Maybe 8 picks right this year...Further EDIT: Mock drafts are solely created to amuse football fans with nothing else better to do that wait and get pumped for the draft. Actually, you've gone from claiming mock drafts are G-A-Y (not that there is anything wrong with that) and foolish to at least admitting there is some positive football discussion is assessing team needs and draft strategy and putting ourselves into the same position as a real GM, who we emulate in fantasy drafts.Of course the draft isn't going to go exactly as people predict, so what? When did I ever say my picks were better? You're not saying anything that the rest of us don't know. You're just being more of a tool about it.Mock drafts aren't done so that people can bet on picks in Vegas. They're done so that a) people can learn about who the new prospects are that are entering the league, b) talk with other homers about what their teams need and who they may be targeting, and c) which players fans should be excited/disappointed about should their team draft them.If mock drafts are solely created to amuse football fans with nothing else better to do that wait and get pumped for the draft, then so are off-season message boards. Which leads me to ask why, if you're going to be so offensive to the interests of other people, are you here in the first place? When did I ever say my picks were better? really really stupid...
Imagine Atlanta staying where they are, keeping the extra draft picks, and coming out of the draft with LT.1. San Diego | Michael Vick, QB, Virginia Tech: With a workout scheduled with the Chargers on Friday, it looks like GM John Butler is prepared to make Vick the first overall selection.5. Atlanta | Justin Smith, DE, Missouri: While a big-time wide-out is needed, the Falcons also will be looking for more game-changing plays out of the DE position. Last year Patrick Kerney, Brady Smith and Chuck Wiley combined for only 11 sacks. Smith's forte is getting after the QB.How different things could be in Atlanta right now...

I think AJ & butler wanted LT all along. Well, if you notice, he had the Broncos taking Freddie Mitchell in the pick before. People forget that Mitchell was, almost universally, considered the better WR prospect than Chad Johnson.25. Philadelphia | Chad Johnson, WR, Oregon State: Johnson would have been off the board by this point in round one had it not been for his sub-par effort at the combine.Flashback to 2001, Andy Reid is sitting in his draft bunker thinking: "Freddie Mitchell? Exactly. Love him or hate him, Kiper has always been about who he thinks a team SHOULD draft, not trying to decipher who they actually WILL draft.I have a question:Was this his final mock? It says April 10. I am guessing this wasn't his final shot. Seems to me his last mock might be more accurate. Also, Kiper's value has been as a talent evaluator, he has strong feelings about players. I don't think he's ever pretended to have inside sources telling him who is going where. Whereas a guy like Gosselin doesn't know diddly about the players, but has a great network of sources, hence his accurate mock year after year.
and Vick might still have a career if Bad Newz Kennels was set up across the border from San Diego.Imagine Atlanta staying where they are, keeping the extra draft picks, and coming out of the draft with LT.1.
