right. at worst, most of those teams can offer to swap places and a later round draft pick. say a 4th rounder?Minnesota is the only one that makes sense as the others will either wait it out in hopes one (probably) drops and the others already have their QB in place, be it long or short term.ta-da!Gotta think about which teams might be interested in trading up for Leinhart. Jets, Oakland, Minnesota, Baltimore, Buffalo, Arizona, Cleveland, Green Bay, San Fransisco, or Detroit. With the Jets, Oakland, Minnesota, and Baltimore being the most likely candidates. At pick 17, Minnesota may look a little low to compete but they have that extra second round pick.
I just think the allure of having Brick and Brown at the tackles for the next few years is too good to pass up. Especially for a recovering Brees AND McAllister.if you draft, say, the OT of the future at 1.2 in D'Brick then you have two young OT's to protect the delicate mister brees. he'll be fine playing behind the saints OL, regardless. it's not like he's past his prime. he's, what, 27? he appears to be heading into the season healthy enough. it's not like he's going to miss camp or anything.
it's a fine move. they get an effective QB. they have leverage in the draft. they save some $$ to boot.
As a Clemson Alum would love to see T.Hill go at 11. He is a great kid.My extremely down and dirty mock, based on the last couple days of activity:

4. NYJ - Mario
5. GB - Hawk
6. SF - Vernon Davis
7. Oak - Young
8. Buff - Winston Justice
9. Det - Jimmy Williams
10. Arizona - Michael Huff
11. St. Louis - Tye Hill
12. Cleveland - Haloti Ngata
13. Baltimore - Jay Cutler
14. Philadelphia - Tamba Hali
15. Atlanta - Donte Whitner/Jason Allen
16. Miami - Chad Jackson
17. Minnesota - Chad Greenway
18. Dallas - Donte Whitner/Jason Allen
19. San Diego - Manny Lawson
20. Kansas City - Broderick Bunkley
21. New England - Ernie Sims
22. Denver - DeAngelo Williams
23. Tampa - Marcus McNeill
24. Cincinnati - Gabe Watson
25. NYG - Bobby Carpenter
26. Chicago - Leonard Pope
27. Carolina - Lendale White
28. Jacksonville - Kamerion Wimbley

i agree. it makes a great deal of sense. i see only 2 players to target, if i'm the saints front office. d'brick and hawk. if minnesota makes an offer, featuring a 1st/2nd rounder then I totally jump on it. there are some solid LB's that can be had later in the draft. if we can trade down a few slots to grab hawk and grab a 3/4th rounder then i'm all over that too. however, if i am forced to pick 1.2 then d'brick is the choice and i'm very happy with it.I just think the allure of having Brick and Brown at the tackles for the next few years is too good to pass up. I agree, but I think a pretty decent T is going to be around at pick 34. The Saints currently have one of the worst 3 sets of LB in the NFL, and drafting an AJ Hawk, along with their recent signing of Scott Fujita, would help turn that around. That said, I would be ecstatic to have D'Brick.I just think the allure of having Brick and Brown at the tackles for the next few years is too good to pass up. According to the AP, it's $10 million up front and $12 million next year. linkSo it's player or team option though? That makes a huge difference, I think.Brees' deal has an $8MM signing bonus and a $12MM option due in Spring 2007. Unless Brees plays lights out he is going to be restructured or let go after this year. I wouldn't rule out the possibility that NO might still get Leinart
From KFFL... (is that allowed here??Saints | McAllister’s rehab going wellHow is McAllister's rehab going.
Wouldn't it be crazy if the Saints moved up to #1 and took Bush to replace McAllister? They took McAllister when they had Ricky Williams. Oh, the possitilities in this draft are ENDLESS!
I think that a healthy Brees is better than all of the other QB's in our division(Vick, Delhomme, Simms). No matter how you slice it, that is a good thing for any team.ESPN Anaylst John Clayton isnt so sure about the Saints drafting Dabrickshaw. He has recently told ESPN, that without a doubt, the Saints will draft the 6'7 defensive end from NCST. I believe this is the horribly wrong pick. Also, why would the people in New Orleans sign Brees? This is an absolute pointless move towards the franchise. They play in one of the toughest divisions in the entire NFL (Panthers, Bucs, Falcons). Therefore, getting Brees for this year wont win them games this quick. Why not draft a young QB, and ease him into the NFL, and make him your future. No one really knows how many more years Brees can give you, so overall BAD CHOICE by the Saints.
:fingerscrossed:Saints will trade down and nab A.J. Hawk. Mario Williams is a bluff, since they have Charles Grant and Will Smith. We haven't had a stud LB since the Dome Patrol Days.
Tuiasosopo was Grudens pick, and there were reports that Gruden had to convince Al to take him there.IMO, Al would rather have the vetern QB come in to run the team, as that has been more of his way. Hostettler, Gannon, Collins, etc... all came in with experience. Now with that said, Davis might throw all that aside and grab Young based solely on his athletic ability. Young or V. Davis... especially with Davis's combine numbers.I don't know how much input he had from 60-63 when he was offensive end coach/head coach, but there is a history of taking QBs in or near the first:
2001
2. Marques Tuiasosopo, QB Washington
1991
1 Todd Marinovich, QB, USC
1980
1 Marc Wilson, QB, BYU
1968
1 Eldridge Dickey, QB, Tennessee St.
2 Ken Stabler, QB, Alabama
1962
1 Roman Gabriel QB, No. Carolina St
