How high have you seen Adrian Peterson go in startup dynasty leagues? (1 Viewer)

First of all, how high have you seen him go in startup dynasty leagues?

Secondly, if you're a fan of his, how high would you reach for him? Forget average draft info as I know he could be had lower and I know you can trade down, blah, blah, blah.....As far as your rankings, imagine you're in a league called "Adrian Peterson Lovers Only" and you know others are targeting him, how high would you take him? 4th or 5th pick overall? End of 1st? 2nd round? Just curious how confident some of you are that he will eventually outperform the likes of guys like Addai and Westbrook and Maroney who are currently going in the 1st round.

I'd probably take him in the mid to late first. It would be hard to pass over a running back that you know will produce this year for him but his overall value is just too high to let get out of the first round.

Quite honestly the only guys I'd consider trading AD straight up for right now is Steven Jackson, LaDainian Tomlinson and MAYBE Reggie Bush. (LJ nope, Gore nope, FWP nope, Alexander not even close, etc, etc,)

So, with that said I'd be perfectly comfortable picking him as high as #3 overall.

I'm in a league that allows 1 college player and in the initial draft over a year ago I took AD at #17 overall....before his Junior year of college. That's how high I was and still am on this guy.

Ah, the memories....

I have him ranked 5th in my dynasty rankings. He has went 6th in two of my startup drafts, and 11th in another. I can't imagine him not being in or very close to the top 10 in any legit startup dynasty league. The top half of round 1 is where he should be picked.

Are you guys serious?!?

The guy didn't even have a consistant college career and you guys think his long-term prospects are worth more than a proven stud like Larry Johnson or a greater talent like Reggie Bush? That just isn't logical. Do you guys really think this kid is the next Marshall Faulk or Barry Sanders and are willing to sacrifice this season because of that? Not me. He's mid 2nd round material at the highest in a dynasty startup. Great potential, but it is at least a year away and may never come to fruition. Not worth a first round pick, IMO.

Also, you guys know he plays for the Vikings, right?

I got him with the #15 overall in my new dynasty. It was considered reaching by a few guys, but I was fully anticipating reaching to assure myself of the pick. I have no problem using my #15 on him. Rudy, Ronnie & Cedric were the next 3 backs taken. No worries. Its a dynasty league.

I wouldn't touch him in the 1st round of a start up dynasty league but I'm sure most owners would make the pick near the middle/end of the 1st.

16 Team DYNASTY Startup.

I took Peterson with the #10 overall pick.

I had traded down from 1.7 in hopes FWP or Addai would be there, but they were taken just before me.

So I was left with

Maroney

Portis

Alexander

MJD

Brown

Mcgahee

all the WR's

I went with AD as I figured I would suffer this year in production in comparison with the above mentioned players, but for 08 and behond, I figure AD to go before all of the guys listed.

16 team dynasty startup w/PPR he went 9th. The draft was 3 days ago.

1. LT

2. SJ

3. Bush

4. Gore

5. LJ

6. Rudi

7. Maroney

8. Addai

9. Peterson

12 team, 3-keeper league...so 36 Keepers...

Our keepers have been announced, and we've got

QB = 5

RB = 18

WR = 12

TE = 1

My three keepers are:

QB-Donovan McNabb-PHI

RB-Larry Johnson-KC

WR-Marvin Harrison-IND

I have the 1.01 draft pick...

...and I will happily be drafting RB-Adrian Peterson-MIN with that pick!

He'll by my RB#2 after LJ, my 4th player chosen, and including our keepers, he'll be RB#19 off the board, and the 37th player overall.

So technically he'd be drafted at 4.01, 37th overall.

---------

Edited to add I didn't realize the question was for DYNASTY leagues.

3rd or 4th pick

1)LT

2)Jackson

3)Bush or AD

No way i would take Gore over him in a dynasty as i think he's the most over-ranked dynasty RB (due to a rebuilt body..talent wise he's top notch) based on general consensus that i've ever seen.

Look at it like this, if Gore has another major injury to a knee his value plummets so bad it's unthinkable. There is no precident for a young RB like him who has had such major injuries already.

AD has had a broken collerbone and no other major injuries, if he tears an ACL he still holds solid value, he'll still have another one to blow before he gets to Gore status.

Serious, HELL YEAH!....I recently selected AD ("All Day") at #5 in a startup keeper (3 keepers, any position, as long as you want to keep 'em, no forfeiture of Rd). My rationale for selecting anybody in the Top 5 (aside from #1 stunna LT) is "can this guy legitimately be a Top 5 performer year-in and year-out for the next 6-8 years"?.....Aside from this season, I believe AD fits the bill ahead of Addai, Maroney, Parker, and any other young stud RB after Bush, Gore, and S-Jax. With those 3 plus LT off the board, I think AD is the pick 4 sure........I value special abilities (AD) over good abilities (Addai) every day of the week, I don't care about the supposed favorable situation that Addai has. For what it's worth, I believe that Minn has a much better o-line (especially in the run game) than Indy, so AD is $$$$$ for years to come. And seeing him push the piles as he has in preseason just reaffirms my thinking on him. The guy will be a Tier 1 STUD, NO DOUBT! This kid is LJ but 7 years younger.......

I gotta agree. When I drafted for my dynasty a couple months ago, a lot thought it was a reach to get him at 2.1 in a 12 team league (I had traded down out of 1st and he was my 1st pick). And I gotta admit that I was a little worried that I may not be making the right decision. But as you said, I don't think I would trade him straight up for anyone except LT and SJ and Bush. Just crazy to think I really think most others would feel that way but not many would be bold enough to take him at that #4 or #5 spot. Seems like he's still dropping later than he should given how people feel about him.

I got him at 2.9 in a dynasty startup. :) Of course, this was 14 weeks ago, before the hype went into overdrive. :)
hmmmmmmm....sounds familiar.... :thumbup: ........And I'm still going to beat you......... :D
With Bush and AP? Calvin too? Good luck. I'll be beating you like a redheaded step child for years to come. :excited:
after I win year 1, i'm already in the money :thumbup: wiht Palmer, Maroney, AJ, Evans, Javon, VD....it's all about DEPTH and STUDS in a 10-starter league

Yes, I would have even drafted Adrian Peterson in the first round of a dynasty draft out of high school if the NFL allowed high school players to be eligible. I've been watching this kid since before Oklahoma and I honestly think he could have made the jump to the pros when he was 18. I can't remember ever thinking that about any other RB except maybe Faulk and Bo Jackson. As far as a consistent college career, that really doesn't carry any weight in the pros. Peterson proved to any potential doubters that he was NFL ready after his freshman campaign at OU. That was one of the greatest freshman seasons of all time for a college RB. Faulk is the probably the only other RB that impressed me more as a freshman.

My longstanding dynasty league has an unusual scoring system where rushing TDs count for twice as many points as passing or receiving TDs. Obviously, this places an enormous emphasis on RBs. With that said, I traded Peyton Manning straight up for AP this spring. I probably overpaid a little bit, but if AP stays healthy, it will be worth it. If I had my pick of dynasty players--at least in my league--he'd probably go in the top six picks.
