How is your league handling week 1 waivers? (1 Viewer)

Giants and skins kick off week 1 tomorrow and I have guys in my league who want to put a guy on IR - for example I have Torain, and would like to IR him but wiht the NFL Injury reports not out yet - and waivers closing at kickoff of the first game..............I cant be the only league having this problem.....

anyone have suggestions?

Yes that would sort of solve it, but our IR makes a player inactive for a period of time. It adds to the strategy. How are you handling the IR and waivers? Are you closing the waiver wire this week?

FCFS through kickoff tonight for WAS/NYG.... FCFS for everyone else through Sunday kickoff.

Sunday (after kickoff) through Wednesday 5 PM - blind bidding claims

Then the process repeats.

As for IR... can it.. you always get folks that complain about it.

Our league you can not draft people and put them on IR the first week. You must wait untill week 2. When Thursday night football starts on a regular basis they just have to wait to put someone on the IR untill the injury report is out and this is usally a day after our WW claims. If the person dont like they just have to drop someone.

get rid of the IR spot completely and add an extra roster spot. headaches over.
I disagree. IR spot is for owners that have an injured player.If you add an additional roster spot instead of the IR, then you'll have an additional 10, 12, 14 players selected and reduce even further the available free agent pool. In my league, we use blind bid and our roster spots are tight so if a player gets injured, that owner has to expect to fork over some $$ if he wants to pick up a potential backup that wasn't drafted. But he also knows that the other owners will be bidding too so it kind of makes it fun to watch if you're not involved.IMO, you want rosters with a ratio of at least >50% starters to bench players. Anything less than 50% and I feel rosters are bloated.

Can myfantasyleague.com do this type of system?This is how I want to do format my league, but I can't find where to set it up this way.

IR = headache.

The strategy of manipulating your IR slot becomes replaced with draft day/free agent strategy since the talent pool is a bit thinner. Much easier to manage for the commish and doesn't take any power away from the owners.

MFL has a much more straightforward way to handle this than making you explicitly define rules team by team each week. There is an option that at the start of any player's game will lock their status either on a roster or not. So your teams can continue doing waivers even through to Monday Night Football... but they can't drop a guy if his game already started and they can't pick up a guy if his game already started that week. But if you find out your MNF WR is out you could at least drop him and pick up his NFL backup who is playing since they both are on a team that didn't start their game yet.With this ability there is no reason not to allow waivers all the way right up to MNF. And they could still be queued up waivers or blind bidding if you want, not just FCFS. We used it all last year and loved it. To do this, go into For Commissioners -> Waivers / Free Agents Setup. The last option is:
Prevent Owners From Making FCFS Waivers/Free Agent Moves Between Kickoff of that player's game and the end of the last game of the week? No / Yes
Set that to yes.

I agree, but you will still have owners who want it back so you will still hear other owners complain"we should have an IR"
