The one odd habit that I have is that I watch 1-2 episodes of The Office before going to bed. I use my tablet while laying on my side in bed. I've been doing this for the last 3-4 years and it's become a ritual. I have trouble falling asleep if I don't watch at least 1 episode. Weird. I know.I really don't spend a lot of time on my phone. My wife, on the other hand will be on that for 4 hours after work then plop her head down and start snoring away the day.
I put the TV on to go to sleep because background noise helps drown out my racing thoughts. I'll put The Office on and lay down. I usually hear an entire episode before I nod off.
At least 30 minutes for me.. Most nights longer... Unless I take https://www.midnitesleep.com/ but I do worry about becoming to dependent on it so only use 2 or 3 times a week.TheIronSheik said:This is asking at night, when you lay your head down on the pillow with the intention of falling asleep, about how long does it take you to pass out? My wife will put her head down and be asleep within a minute. Meanwhile, I'm tossing and turning for about 30 minutes before I finally pass out.
I hate people who can fall asleep so quickly. So jealous of them.
I am exactly the opposite. I am up between 5:30-6 no matter if the alarm is set or not. I am usually in bed by 10:30 so I get my quiet time when everyone else is sleeping in the morning. To your original question, 5 minutes tops. It really upsets the Mrs. because I am out, sawing logs, snoring and grinding my teeth before she can even think about falling asleep. If I did this, I'd fall asleep when it was time to leave for work. I have always been a night owl. Can pretty much stay awake all night. On weekends, I'll stay up to 3 or 4 am because I can read, play video games or watch TV uninterrupted. It's so peaceful and quiet. No noise from outside. It's great. I love the nighttime.
I used to have the same problem. Retiring solved that.5-10mins tops
but then I wake up a bunch in the middle of the night worrying about random crap
Pretty much this. It used to take me a long time, now the CPAP is almost hypnotic.I fall asleep pretty quick. White noise from the CPAP may be what helps me.
It's funny.I used to have the same problem. Retiring solved that.
I have a couple of loads of laundry to do tomorrow. Hope I don't wake up at 3am worrying about which fabric softener to use. It's funny.
When I was active duty I'd wake up thinking about all the crap we had to do. Now as a civilian, I never do. Similar job, but a whole lot less stress.
I'm not good about falling asleep, and I tend to rock n' roll throughout the night. It's helped that my wife and I now sleep in separate beds so I don't feel guilty about rolling around (it always used to drive her crazy). I wake up to pee during the night, and I've found Melatonin helps a lot for me to get right back to sleep. Otherwise, I'll roll around for another 30 minutes or more. I've also taken a shot of Nyquil before going to bed, which has about the same effect as the Melatonin.I have a lot of trouble falling, and staying, asleep. I take over the counter sleep aids (like Advil PM, but without the pain killer), plus will sometimes also take Melatonin. Even with that, it often takes me 30 minutes+ to fall asleep. If I don't take anything, most of the time I won't fall asleep at all. There have been plenty of nights, Friday included, where I take sleep aids and still don't fall asleep at all. During the week it becomes a major problem because I have to go to work on no sleep.
I might try thisWill read my kindle paperwhite with the lights off until I can't keep my eyes open, only takes about 5-10 minutes, then takes me a minute to fall asleep.
It only works if like shuke you read nothing but Phish biographiesI might try this
XPro tip: Drink more.
Only reason I didn't do a ploe was because I wanted to hear more details. If it's just a poel than people don't write anything.this oughta be a Pole

Maybe I'm wired different but anything less than 4 hours throws me off for the rest of the day. I never take naps and can't even sleep on airplanes unless it's a redeye. I envy you guys.20 minutes
For me too, as others have said, the mind is racing and that keeps me awake. I tend to go to bed around midnight, since I don't have to be awake until 8ish to start getting kids to school. Once I'm asleep, I don't tend to wake up until I have too. Although I love waking up after feeling like I've been asleep for hours and finding out it's only 2:30 or so. Very nice!different every night![]()

I have an iPad that I keep by my bed that I use like these guys. Although I usually will do a crossword puzzle or two (easiest levels) and then move over to reading. Usually I am reading a book that I have read before, so that it is sort of like the white noise for my head that The Office is for @TheIronSheik.Second the Kindle sleep aid.
Generally fall asleep after a few pages.
My son started taking Malatonin about 6 months ago as he has always had difficulty getting to sleep. Since he started taking it, however, he is sleeping in 15 minutes or less. it's been a godsend for him.6mg of Melatonin
people with heart clogs tend to fall asleep faster. and they snore moreAlso, there seems to be a correlation between the louder you snore, the quicker you fall asleep.
XX
This just results in non-restorative sleep. Same for antihistamines, the active ingredient in things like Tylenol/Advil PM/Nyquil.
As for the OP, it takes me a while, usually 30+minutes and I wake up a few times a night.
Well in that case, I recommend heroin.X
That's not the question that was asked.
ETA - As for the OP, I fall asleep almost instantly, most nights.
been trying to find one of these for my 9 year old but can't find one small enough. glad to hear it works. i think it can be a big benefit for her as well but we haven't heard any direct testimony from other users.Use to take at least 30 mins with a lot of tossing through the night. Picked up a 15lb weighted blanket during Black Friday. Sleep in 5 mins and I don’t toss anymore. Complete night sleep. Game changer
Yeah, I don't get the counting sheep. That will keep me awake. That gets my brain racing. It takes me anywhere from 30 min to an hour to fall asleep. My routine is to get in bed at 10, watch one episode of whatever show I'm on (currently rewatching The Wire), go pee and take meds, and lights off at 11:00. I end up catching midnight on the clock about half the time before I'm out. Just can't turn my brain off. Counting sheep, I'll end up with 500 of them.
Wife has a switch behind her ear I think. She'll close her eyes and be comatose in 1-2 minutes. Drives me crazy, I'm so jealous
Wife and I bought one each for Black Friday, too. My biggest complaint is that they are only 7x4 feet or something stupid. I love the feel of it, but I still roll over a lot before passing out trying to find the right spot, and it's a pain in the butt that any movement results in a 6'2" man being only half covered. Other than that, we both think it's good.Use to take at least 30 mins with a lot of tossing through the night. Picked up a 15lb weighted blanket during Black Friday.
