Typical day? In by 9 and started within 10 minutes. Ostensibly, I'm a lead, so the questions usually start shortly after I walk in the door. I line up crap I want to bust out before morning stand ups (10:30am daily) the day before, so I already have a plan going in. My EOD is when I slack, if I'm going to. Responding to emails, providing feedback to juniors if required, documenting...whatever, prepping for the next morning, etc. That stuff usually only takes about 5% of my brain power, so that's when I'll surf/check my personal emails/play games on my phone.
Atypical day? I may be there for 10-12 hours (and it isn't that atypical, sadly), so I don't feel bad about putting in 6 hours of real work over 8 hours here and there.
Another no-start day for me, Sheik. Will be calling in sick for the second day in a row. That's two mental health days. Really don't want to face it today.
This is exactly my answer to. I manage a very busy retail establishment. I don’t have a choice but to start the day hitting the ground running.. If I slack or don’t start my day immediately—I’m forced to stay late—as the work needs to get done and there are timelines and deadlines. If I wake u and don’t feel like I’m ready to start my day in an energized manner—I leave my house early and grab a cold brew on my way into work.
Same as at work for me. Listen to NPR News now, check email, surf the web. About an hour later I get some coffee and start working, assuming there's no fires in my email.
