Some people are forgetting that if Fisher doesn't do well this year, Chow may take over as HC. Do you actually think that Chow would run as conservative offense as Fisher? How many points a game did USC average while he was there? And now Chow has a player that is more of a "weapon" than Leinart and Palmer were. I bashed this guy just as much as everyone else did. Between the "dumbed down" offense at Texas to the "Wonderlic-gate" episode and his "non-traditional throwing motion" everyone forgot about his ability to take over a game against top notch defenses. He has boom or bust written all over him but his upside far outweighs his bust potential. And all said so far he has been doing all the right things at OTA's and training camps. He will earn the respect of the veterans and should gel with the other young players. Give him a year of seasoning and some consistency with his OC/HC and he could be a monster! I'm looking forward to him producing respectable numbers by his 2nd year and gradually improving each year after that until it plateaus.
Uh there is no chance Chow becomes HC. He's a questionable OC. He's going back to college as soon as Fisher leaves.

VY is a WR.

When he has to run a pro style offense he'll stumble and fail again and again.  It took Mack Brown over 2 years to dumb the UT offense down enough.

The "Run Vince Run" play doesn't work in the NFL
Oklahoma fan?
I am a Sooner but I'll play. I strongly disagree with the VY is a WR comment. I have been on the field for both practices and games in which he was involved. That talent assessment could not be any further from the truth. By that I mean to say I have no doubt Young is more than capable of playing WR but he is more than capable of playing QB.

I agree with the comments regarding Brown and trimming back the offense for Young. It is no secret. Young's read and react was cut to half the field and, as was mentioned, he was given the option to hand off; make two quick passing reads or tuck it and run. I would suggest he did pretty good with what was given and asked of him. Brown's priority at Texas is to win football games. More importantly, it is to win Big 12 games. Lastly, it is to challenge for the National Championship as often as possible. Despite what some might feel or think it is not his job to make players NFL ready. Should he? That is another subject that can and has been debate. However, that is not the question at hand. Brown made it clear during spring practice in 2005 that nothing would be done to alter Young's throwing motion or added to the offense. Everything would either be left alone or simplified because that would increase Texas' chance of beating OU; winning the Big 12 and contending for the National Championship. Brown did exactly what he said he would do. Another *** kicking by OU and failed attempt at winning the Big 12 probably would have put Brown into the hot seat.

My opinion is that Brown served the interest of his employer, first, at the expense of some of his kids but he finally got through. Did Young's development as a player suffer? Perhaps but you cannot argue with the results and Brown's focus is winning football games. That was easiest by simplifying the offense and working with Young's strengths versus addressing and improving his weaknesses. The ultimate damned if you do and damned if you do not for a college coach.

However, the idea that Young is stupid or incapable of learning an NFL offense or reading a defense is off, opinion. Taking his Wunderlic score and making that assessment is completely wrong. I would rarely say something so direct but drawing theat conclusion is incorrect. The Wunderlic, while testing for intelligence, is not used as the end all and be all barometer for determining a player's football IQ or their ability to comprehend aspects of the game or a playbook. It is an indicator of how a player learns and how he will need to be taught and coached. An extremely high score for a QB means he will need little practice/rep time and can go right to the film room. This player go be moved right into advanced learning. A low score means the QB prospect is going to need plenty of hands on, practice field work along with film study. This player needs to start slow with physical and mental activities. The player is going to take some time to produce.

Young is going to need extra work with physical repitition and extra time studying game tape. He was not drafted to split atoms or discover the cure for cancer. He was taken to win football games. His score has shown the Titans staff how he will have to be trained and prepared to win games in the NFL, while giving them an understanding of both his overall mental capacity and the best way to serve Young in his development.

Young is a great football player and amazing athlete. I have a hard time...very hard time... making that statement, considering ties to OU, but credit where credit is due. Will he be a FF darling, which appears to be the ultimate concern? Probably not. Expeectations of the average FF fan make it nearly impossible for any player to actually meet them. Will he be an average statistical QB in the NFL? Most likely, yes. Will he start racking and stacking wins come late 2007 or 2008 as the starter? Absolutely. He will win football games on a very regular basis in the near future.

While defenses are going to be more complex and disguised on Sundays with players that much faster, Young will still be one of the best athletes on the field. Pro defenses will still have to account for him on each and every play. The defense will still be short a man in coverage because of Young's legs. DE or OLB will still have to play with great discipline and keep Young contained because, if and when they get too far upfield, Young can roll and dicate the game. Chow will be able to take advantage and pressure the defense, while attempting to predicate and control how the game will be played. Given enough proper coaching and time to develop, the game will be no different than what he saw on Saturdays and the Titans will see an ROI come mid to late 2007. It will not happen overnight, like Big Ben. Young is going to need a tremendous amount of time to develop...LOTS OF TIME...but it will happen.

Never as many have pointed out above.

None of his QB skills translate to the NFL.
Not sure about the Aaron Brooks references, but I do see a lot of Kordell Stewart in him...Norm Chow is as good an OC as you're going to find, so maybe both he and Fisher can work some magic with VY, and they took him over Leinart , someone Chow was familiar with, so they must've seen something in VY ( unless, of course, ownership trumped their demands for Leinart and told them to select VY)

one thing's for sure , VY has a knack for winning in big games..

as one person pointed out, he had a tendency to toos it up to the TE while at Tx..

well, he has one the best up-n-coming TE's to throw to in Tenn, Ben Troupe..

all that being said, I think it's going to be a while before VY becomes a decent starting QB, I'm not sure his skill set translates well to the NFL..and if he does become a quality starter, like LHUCKS said, it's going to take some time, before that happens, perhaps a few years...

I'm not sure he's worth the wait, quite honestly..
Bolded part pretty much invalidated everything else you wrote.Chow did nothing to show hes an above average OC last year.

I really do not see this comparison. I would agree with a Randall Cunningham comparison - and we'll see if he settles down like RC did later in his career.

Brooks has the tools, he just lacks leadership ability. I do not think he has ever been called a fiery competitor. He is not a true scrambler.

IF anything, VY is a competitor and leader. He is a scrambler to the extent he will run.
Roger Staubach.
I'm also surprised to see all the Vick comparisons.  VY isn't anything like Vick.
I don't know about others who use Vick in the same sentence as Young, but for me, I wasn't suggesting you compare them as similar QB's. What I was trying to get across, is that Young, like Vick, won't be your prototypical, drop back in the pockett, passing QB.
No. He'll be better than that.

Plus, the Texas playbook consisted primarily of:

1. Hand off J. Charles/Romance Taylor

2. Shotgun throw it up and pray to TE

3. '' '' '' '' '' '' '' WR

Also add for two and three "or VY runs."

This is why Mack Brown is better known for recruiting than x's and o's.
Dude...lmao.You're disqualified.

Due to your striking lack of knowledge of Texas' 2005 offense, it is inconceivable that any person who does possess said knowledge will ever again be able to take you seriously in a football conversation.
