Eli hasn't been nearly as bad as the assinine NY media makes him out to be. Inconsistent but not nearly as bad as some claim. Look at his career, steady improvement and then he broke through last year.
Ummm... what? Here are Eli Manning's year-by-year numbers over the last three years, with his best year in each category bolded.Yards- 3762, 3244, 3336

TDs- 24, 24, 23

INTs- 17, 18, 20

YPA- 6.8, 6.2, 6.3

AYPA- 5.8, 5.1, 5.0

Comp%- 52.8, 57.7, 56.1

QB Rating- 75.9, 77.0, 73.9

No matter how you slice it, last year, his "breakout" year, was his WORST SEASON as a professional. He threw 20 INTs. Jake Plummer threw 20 picks in 2004 when we were in the middle of the "Jake the Mistake" era, but Plummer also threw in 27 TDs and 4000 yards to Eli's 23 TDs and 3300 yards. Plummer also had 7.8 ypa to Eli's 6.3, and an 85 rating to Eli's 74. Looking at his career, I see NO improvement (steady or otherwise)- I see REGRESSION, and even his breakout year was kind of pathetic- not even 7 ypa or an 80 QB rating. He's never thrown fewer than 17 picks in a season. The guy is every bit as bad as some claim, but just because he managed to string 2-3 solid games together at the right time and his defense decided to play the biggest defensive game since the Giants shut down the Bills, suddenly all of his faults are glossed over?

I must confess I did NOT like what I had seen of Jay Cutler last year. I felt he got WAAAAAAAAY TOOO MUCH LUV for what I saw of him but then the news of his diabetes broke and I had a an AHA moment. THAT explains what I saw last year. A guy who seemed to fade at the end of last year. He looked weak and couldn't win games at the end. I didn't see a killer instinct but I saw a guy with a great gun who should have been posting huge numbers in a high powered offense. Now his situation is fluid. He should be fine but taking six insuline shots a day and playing a high pressure postion, hmmn. I'd still take Jay over Ryan but he just squeeks in under the wire as a definite QB I'd take over Matt Ryan.
Jay Cutler gets too much love for what he's done? Let's put what he's done into perspective, shall we? Here's a comparison of Jay Cutler through 21 games with a couple of other QBs through 21 games:Quarterback.....Cmp...ATT....PCT...Yds...TD...INT...RTG

Jay Cutler............378...604....62.6...4498...29....19....88.2

Tom Brady...........411...632....65.0...4415...31....18....89.9

Peyton Manning...432...751....57.5...5134...37....35....75.5

Brett Favre...........374...603....62.0...3926...20....18....79.5

Remember that Cutler did all of this with undiagnosed Type 1 diabetes, too. After just 21 games as a pro, he's already 7th in the NFL in career QB rating and 5th in career YPA. Cutler is well deserving of the praise that is heaped on him. He's earned his place alongside Roethlisberger, Romo, and Palmer as "the next big thing" at QB.
Eli Manning over his last five games threw for 10 TDs and 2 Ints. He won five of his last six and his last four games, all against playoff teams. Eli only had two games exceeding 300 yards passing and only had two great games, Sept 9 against Dal with 4 TDs and Dec 29 against NE 4 TDs, take out those two great games and he threw 15 TDs over the other 14 games. He came into the season as the starting QB the last three years and the Giants have made the playoffs each of those years. The last time the Giants went to the post season for three consecutive years in a row, Parcells was the coach, Simms was the QB, and LT was their defensive leader. And Eli has as many SBs as the team in the mid eighties had in their three year playoff run. What I saw of Cutler last year is a guy who had two fantastic games, the first was Oct 21 at home against Pittsburgh where he threw 3 TDs and completed 75% of his passes. The other was Dec 9 at home against KC where he threw 4 TDs and completed nearly 75% (74.1%) of his passes. In the other 14 games that Jay started he threw for a grand total of 13 TDs. He only had two games where he threw 300 yards. He took over for Plummer and the team went from a playoff contender to out of the playoffs to a losing season. Last year was the first time a Mike Shanahan team had two consecutive losing seasons. What I saw of Culter is a guy who got WAAAAAAAY tooo much luv. Sure he had two great games, I don't deny it. I also saw the other 14 games where he wasn't scintillating and I did not see a killer instinct to win games and over the last two years he hasn't won. Now with treatment for his disease and with the Broncos getting him an OLT and a WR and with Shanahan in his corner he should have a blowout season. I haven't seen it and he is not in the league of, Roethlisbergher, Romo, or Palmer. He isn't and he hasn't earned his place along side those QBs.

Eli Manning over his first 4 games of 2005 had 9 TDs and 2 INTs. He won 3 of his first 4 games. Four games does not an adequate sample size make. Jay Fiedler at one point in time had one of the highest winning percentages in the NFL, while Troy Aikman QB'd a team that had 8 wins in his first two seasons combined. Wins are a terrible way of measuring a QB.What I really don't get is why you're high on Eli and mention he had 15 TDs in his 14 worst games as a reason why, but you're low on Cutler because he only had 13 TDs in his 14 worst games. Does the fact that Eli had 60+ more pass attempts (that's two entire GAMES worth) not mean anything to you? How about the fact that Manning had 20 INTs?First off, the poor play of the Broncos has nothing to do with Cutler... and second off, even if it did, what of it? Cutler was a 2nd year QB last year. 2nd year QBs are supposed to struggle. Eli was a 4th year QB. What was his excuse?Take out Cutler's two best games, as you defined them, and he was on pace for 2 more attempts, 60 fewer yards, 5 fewer TDs, and the same number of INTs. His YPA would drop to 7.3 instead of 7.5. Take out Eli's two best games, as you defined them, and he was on pace for 150 fewer yards, 8 fewer attempts, 6 fewer TDs, and 1 more INT. His YPA would drop from 6.3 to 6.1. Cutler outside of his "great" games blew Eli outside of his "great" games out of the water. Hell, Cutler outside of his "great" games blew Eli *INCLUDING HIS GREAT GAMES* out of the water. And Cutler was a 2nd year QB battling diabetes while Eli is a 4th-year veteran. If Eli hadn't played for the team that won the SB last year, we wouldn't be having this discussion. Eli is a QB who gets mildly hot streaks and insane cold streaks, and just because one of his mildly hot streaks came in the playoffs last year (and because his defense was phenomenal), people think he's a good QB.You want to talk about a QB who finally seems to be getting it... everyone mentions that in Eli Manning's last 5 games last year, he was great. He was pretty good- his postseason passer rating of 95.7 was very good, although I wouldn't exactly put it into "great" territory for a 4-game sample. But the 5 games before that hot streak, Manning's QB rating was 33.8, 63.0, 88.0, 52.1, and 32.2. This was week 11-16 of his fourth season, right before "everything clicked". Puh-lease. That was a PATHETIC stretch of quarterbacking. Good QBs don't have stretches like that, with 4 TDs, 8 INTs, and 4 lost fumbles. Good QBs don't pass 52 times for 184 yards in a game. Eli Manning played TERRIBLY through large stretches of last season. Absolutely TERRIBLY. This is not a good QB, here- this is a mediocre-to-bad QB who maybe still has some potential for improvement (although after 4 years you've got to begin to wonder when it's going to happen). Yes, he caught fire in the last 5 games. It wasn't the first time he had a good stretch. Even Rex Grossman has good stretches. That doesn't make him a good QB. I'm not saying Eli Manning is Rex Grossman bad, but if I was starting a franchise today, Eli Manning wouldn't crack my top 12 for QBs to lead it.

Matt Ryan isn't even the best QB (either by NFL standards or by fantasy value standards) in his own draft class. I much prefer Brian Brohm over him.
