How many Trick or Treaters did you get last night? (1 Viewer)

Over 750 (ran out of candy at 7:30 as more were still coming by). (I live on one of those streets where they shut down the road for trick or treating.)

Zero. Seems to be accepted practice these days to only mither those houses who have some sort of decorations out

We got 135. My wife loves to put this tally sheet up by the door and count off how many we get We usually count on about 250, but we had a major snowstorm this weekend and got about 12 inches of snow here. I think that and the temperature was pretty cold last night, deterred a lot of kids. Plus many, many houses around us didn't participate and were dark. We have an absolute ton of candy left.

It is like clockwork, but every Halloween my wife and I have the same argument. I believe that once you get past 7:30, you need to start observing how many kids are coming and if you go 5-10 minutes without there being one, you need to shut it down. Plus I let our neighbors kind of guide us. The house across from us went all out with decorations and they shut down at 7:45, so I told my wife we need to start looking at closing shop. However, every year she wants just ten more minutes or so to get to "x" number of kids. I then have to remind her that this is when your chances of a home invasion robbery goes up if you are the only house still giving out candy. She then tells me I am paranoid. I am usually 6-7 into a 12 pack at this point and decide this is year we are getting a gun in case that happens. She then tells me I am really paranoid. I drink another one and inevitably we sit down on the couch and watch a scary movie and reminisce about 34 years of great Halloweens together

Wife and I talked about this.

We bought the same amount if candy as usual, but only gave out about 1/2 as there were not as many kids.

not sure if it was the cold weather or what

Halloween is one of the best nights in my neighborhood. Kids of all ages out with their families and lots of people not from the neighborhood coming in to get treats. I live in a row home in Baltimore city and there is a house every 20 feet or so. On one side of one block there are easily 20 homes, most of which have treats.

Plus there's people that have haunted houses set up and others with kegs of beer. Very typical for parents to walk around with a beer or wine in hand. Also typical for friends to pass out more beer to you as you walk by. It's a great night.

2 groups of 3-4 ...that's it

the neighborhood has aged and there are no more kids around.

way too many houses have turned their lights off for too many years and almost no one comes around anymore

20 - 25 years ago ...it was crazy - it was several hundred easily, people would drive to our neighborhood to get the "good candy"

Excluding me? zero. Weather was nice but we were the only house on our block with the lights on. I waiting till around 8 and then started in hard on the candy.

None last night, but we had over 700 over the weekend. Our neighborhood party was Saturday night and then we ran out of candy about midway through our City's T or T on Sunday afternoon. Another great Halloween weekend for us although I was hurtin on Sunday.

7, down from about 150 the previous year, and 200 the year before. Have crap load of candy left.

40 degrees and Rangers in World Series may have been partially to blame, but lots of church's did Trunk or Treat on Saturday.

Zero. I've lived in this neighborhood for 7 years, and have never had a trick or treater. I live in an area where the houses are 100-200 yards apart. Country almost.

I miss the trick or treaters. I enjoy seeing the costumes and interacting with the kids and parents. Halloween is my favorite holiday, though I'm not the type to decorate my yard with gaudy stuff.

About 75. Was cold here but had my firepit going on the driveway. I hand out generous amounts to each kid and mostly let them choose what they like.

I make them say trick or treat though.

One.

However, my wife and daughter went to a community in North Port, FL where there were (her words) hundreds if not thousands of kids.

They had a great time.

100 or so for me. Same deal. Fire pit. Whiskey for me and parents of trick or treaters. Was a fine evening

We have recently also had a second bucket in addition to the candy one. Full of little plastic animals. Young kids, and not too infrequently older kids, are stoked to grab a giraffe or penguin or centipede. Been a good move

40-50 kids. We pass out candy every year and enjoy seeing the kids dressed up and greeting neighbors, etc. But my god, kids have gotten annoying or I’m just noticing it more. Had one kid ask for no Almond Joys, one kid ask for M&Ms, one kid tried to walk in my house and then the worst of the night goes to this kid who was in the front of a group of 4 - he held his bag open and I gave him candy. I then start giving the other kids candy and he’s still standing there with his bag open so I politely say, “I gave you some, buddy”. He proceeds to say “more candy!”. I was tempted to reach in to his bag and take back what I had given him but at that point a parent yelled for him to come on. Little ****.

Less than 10. Not a lot of kids begging for candy in our area. No sidewalks and houses pretty far apart isn't conducive for begging door to door.

Sadly only one group of 3. My neighborhood has definitely aged, but still a lot of kids around. I just happen to live in a long cul-de-sac off a main cut through street with houses spaced apart, so it’s not a good street to maximize candy efficiency. Used to have a lot more despite the geography.

I think your wife is right. Are home invasions more common on Halloween? How frequently do they occur in your area?

As for trick-or-treaters, very few in our neighborhood, but we went to my father-in-law’s house. Probably 50 kids.

For those on busier streets, how much candy do you typically buy? We nearly ran out of three “party sized” bags, but rain bailed us out.

This is usually my setup but it was too cold/windy last night so I opted to sit in the garage. Didn't bother putting the beer out for the adults this year. Cold really hampered it.

First couple years we lived in our house (18 years ago) our neighborhood was like the place to be. Would have about 300 kids. Has steadily declined and leveled off to about 75 now, but we still buy way too much.

An engineer in our neighborhood tracks from year to year, this is among the lowest since the neighborhood was built. 54.

We skipped a few cul de sacs. In hindsight we probably should have made those a priority.

Depends how long they are. Mine is about a quarter mile long with about 20 houses total. Not the best bang for your trick or treating buck.

When we first moved into this development (20+ years ago) we used to have people in van loads visit for trick or treating. My development is basically a circle. Homes along the outside of the circle then when you finish you hit the homes on the inside. This is the most young kids living in the neighborhood we've had in a long time (lot of house turnover)...... outside all the neighborhood kids I don't think we really had many.

0. We live in a mountain area with no kids around that I’m aware of. We miss the t-o-ters that came by in our old neighborhood. Plenty of deer, tho…

Fair enough. We have some that long but many with like 8-12 houses. I’m thinking towards the end, if the house didn’t get many kids they’d be more willing to give more.

I'm guessing we had about 40. Far fewer this year. I blamed the super cold weather but it could be a trend since so many of our neighborhood kids are reaching that age where they stop doing it.

We live in a pretty good subdivision for Trick or Treating. Only had between 50-75 this year. I have no idea why. Have 1.5 huge bags of candy leftover. I was giving out handfuls to any of the kids who came.
