How much money did one play cost you in the playoffs? (1 Viewer)

Not this week, but last week. 2 plays actually.

1-Le'Veon Bell-2nd Quarter; 3rd & 3 from Cincy 8. Catches a pass, gets to the GL. Looks like, on review the ball "might have" broken the plane before he was down. Steelers don't review, throw a 1 yard TD pass to Matt Spaeth (I think) on next play.

2-Julio Jones TD catch. I could have survived the monster night, if he had not gotten in the EZ.

Lost by 5 points. Either play would have given me the win; & it looks like I would have won this week to make the championship game. Gonna cost me AT LEAST $300, maybe $600.

Not this week or last, but many years back I once effectively lost $1000 when Rich Gannon took a knee at the end of a MNF game and cost me 0.2 points, then losing by 0.1 points, ending up costing my season despite my having a dominant team come playoffs time. That was the day I decided to play small-money leagues only. I've found the excitement and commitment by the owners is the same as for larger dollars, without the lost sleep. I realize it's not exactly what this thread seeks, since QBs take knees all of the time and you're looking for things like fumbles, dropped passes, etc. But it was angst as I've never felt in fantasy- literally the last play in the entire week's action.

2000 - going into the last play of a Monday night game (Sea-KC) in the middle of the season, I am tied with my division foe. I have Kitna, he has the KC defense. Losing 24-19, Kitna throws a Hail Mary. As it would turn out, if the pass is caught or incomplete, I would win the division. Instead, it is intercepted. I end up losing the division on a tiebreaker and have to play in the wild-card game instead of having the bye. Of course, I lose the wild-card game. If I had had the bye, I would have won the title (would've been my third straight and would've turned into four straight the next year). It cost me about $200.

Oh, you meant this year.

14 years later I am still bitter about that play (such is the nature of this hobby).

A guy in my league lost on the "foward lateral" that wasn't called that got Walker 33 yards...

A shot in the Championship with an $800 payout...

Dez's 3rd TD likely cost me $1000.

Beckham's 3rd TD cost me another $1400.

Out of my five playoff matchups I played Odellx2 and Dezx2. I basically got completely f***** on matchups this week and it's going to cost me a profitable season. Three years of profits down the tubes because two guys went off.

Figure this is in the spirit of the thread.

Just before the turn of the millennium my buddy is addicted to betting football. He has cumulative loses in excess of $70k betting games and he has to declare bankruptcy, very sad. So to get his fix he starts a ff league. 2003, a couple years in he invites me, the newbie, to join.

Draft is a blast and my team SUCKS cause I have no idea what I'm doing (I had the number 1 overall pick and drafted Favre, lol). Find footballguys and begin to learn. They had a trade value chart back then that was awesome. I used that with the wire and built a decent team. Somehow make it into final. I'm getting crushed but I have Ahman Green. He's having a decent game but I'm still way behind. Then right at the end of the game...BAM! I can still remember like it happened yesterday, Green goes right up the middle, through the line, 100yds to the house! League is not ppr and has a 6pt bonus for TDs over 50 yds. I win by 1 pt....almost $2k. I have been hooked since then.

I know no one cares but it puts a smile on my face thinking about it now and I wanted to share.

Another anecdote, perhaps related:

Twice in the last 15 years, I've lost a week by playing a QB on MNF who gave me a negative score and cost me a win. Twice. I know it doesn't sound like much, but to this day I freak out about this. I have Cutler tonight in a match I have "already won" by 1.5 points. But, if I bench him I have to worry about a belated scoring change. But I also remember how a QB can go negative and cost me. I'm playing Cutler, of course. But instead of not worrying I'll have to check the scores early in the morning.

Pretty cool…he one for you in return.

1997 and the last week of our playoff ff season. I'm playing my brother in law for the last ff spot. I'm one game back and total points is the tie breaker where I'm 100+ points behind. Scoring is 3 pts per 50 yards with 6 pts bonus at 100 and 300 pass. TDs are 6 / 9 (20-39) / 12 (40+ yd). TDs are double for non-traditional QB rushing, RB rec, etc. 80 pts total is usually a good week.

http://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/199712070pit.htm

I have Kordell Stewart, Rod Smith, and Yancy Thigpen.

Yancey Thigpen 33 yard pass from Kordell Stewart = 18 pts

Rod Smith 25 yard pass from John Elway = 9 pts

Rod Smith 25 yard pass from John Elway = 9 pts

Yancey Thigpen 69 yard pass from Kordell Stewart = 24 pts

Yancey Thigpen 21 yard pass from Kordell Stewart = 18 pts

Kordell Stewart 4 yard rush = 12 pts

Kordell Stewart 9 yard rush = 12 pts

Kordell 303 yards pass = 24 pts

R Smith 115 rec = 12 pts

Thigpen 175 yards = 15 pts

153 pts total from just these three. Brother in law scored in the low 60s and my other guys got me enough points to make up the difference and get me into the playoffs by 2 points. I don't even remember if I won the title that year, taking him down in this fashion was all that matter.

I don't play big money leagues, but the Jordy Nelson drop cost me a championship game appearance in one league, and I'll have to wait until tonight to see if it cost me a title game appearance in another.

A few years ago Greg Jennings had a similar drop to Jordy's that would have resulted in an 80+ yard touchdown against the Lions. Rodgers got hurt and the Packers sucked the rest of the game, lost 10 to 7. It was a survivor league and I would have gone on to win the league. First place was 1200.

Last week, the Giants DST had returned a pick 6 against Tennessee for a TD. Walked in the endzone basically. But during the run back, a personal foul nullified that play which took away the TD. We lost by less than 6 points.

IF (big if), our team would have won next week, that's an $1100 play.
