I wonder what his billable hours are here...that must be one tough bill Joe Bryant has to pay him every month for posting here.
My post counts are way way down in recent years. I can barely even make the minimums that Dodds sets for us each month on the private elite posters board. Just no time.

I want to hear more about the guys who don't have to work and have rich wives.

It's fun.  We will have the mortgage paid off in a couple years, have the kid's college fund covered, no other debt.

Got one more long weekend trip coming up that will bring the total of pleasure travel days on the year to 43, mostly Southern California and Mexico.  Targeting 42 pleasure travel days next year, too.

Enjoy the office tomorrow.

I make $0. It is mostly due to the difficulty for me to get a job out here in the suburbs without being able to drive.

My wife more than covers us ($250k+) as a CPA in a medium-sized national firm.

As my kids get older and have less need for a Mr. Mom during the school year, I will look to see about doing something home-based.

You mean like transcribing doctor's notes or medical billing?

I don't want to speak for oats but if I understand correctly he is a partner at a very big Manhattan law firm. If you guys think he is only bringing in 350-500k you are damn near out of your minds. I would triple that easily.
Yeah but then adjust for standard bull#### hyperbole online. With him I'd divide by 3.

I don't speak for everyone, but I enjoy going to work - really couldn't imagine not having a job at this stage of my life.
Yeah, my job could be shoveling crap out of the state penitentiary or fluffing for gay porn and I'd enjoy going to work more than staying home with these twins.  Work is a virtual vacation for me.

Show off.

The shark move is to have a good job AND to have a wife with a good job as well.

That and not have a litter of kids that drain all your money.

Not this year. I'm up there but not that high. Last year however...
Love this story.  Kutta sells his business and makes a fortune.  GB remind me how old you are again?  You are IMO the model example of "how to make it in America."

Based on your sale last year, you basically could retire now easily, right?

lets up the ante...what do you do?

I work in advertising, on the creative side, Sr art director. I do well by most standards, but nothing off the hook.

My wife makes more then me, as a teacher plus she has the long term benefits, pension ect.

I also run a design business on the side and that actually earns more then my full time gig.

Plus the wife and I also have seasonal side jobs, she is a dance teacher and choreographs local musicals and I referee ice hockey.

multiple revenue streams....gotta do it.

Otis is a patent atty...I teach economically disadvantaged minorities.

Show off.
A few years ago I sold a business I started.  Business wasn't worth Kutta numbers, but I didn't need investors and the business was debt-free, so I still owned 100% of it when it sold and didn't have loans or creditors to pay off.

Wife has a steady six-figure job she likes, has generous benefits, flexible hours, and we aren't going to move at least until the kid graduates high school.

Will be a little busier next year as a new venture ramps up, but the goal is to make the income as passive as possible so we can put the thing on autopilot and move to the beach after the nest empties.

I'm an engineer. My wife is VP at a consulting company. We both make six-figure salaries

We have one rental property that nets us about $5K/year.

A headhunter called me about a job that I'm qualified for, and asked for my current salary.  After I told him, and after he quit laughing, he responded that the cost of living in Florida is amazing!

Just wanted to say I'm amazed with all the other things you can do, in light of this indirect revelation that you are blind, deaf, and without a soul.   :P

How old are you?  Sounds like a sweet gig.

43.
Keep in mind there were some strikeouts along the way.  I've worked for startups that went broke, flamed out with major corporations, and seen skill sets get rendered obsolete by technology and/or economics.  My wife has been very patient and supportive letting me swing for the fences while she played it safe.  We're a good team.

My wife has definitely been the career star in our relationship. Hardest working person I have ever met and it's not even close.

I turned 50 earlier this year. Sold my business about a year and a half ago after having it for 15 years. We do a lot of military work, and had about 40 employees at the time of the sale.

And yes, I could retire very comfortably right now, but they are still paying me well and I think I'd drive my wife crazy if I stayed home so I'm going to continue working for a while. And besides,  it's a lot more fun working since my stress level has decreased 100 fold since the sale ?

And I agree with you - I'm truly a great example of the American dream. Someday I'll write up my backstory for anyone interested, It's quite interesting, IMO.

Real estate rentals? I'm failing in this area but should have a good 6-8 years to create it.  But need to get busy.

You in management?  I didn't think engineers made a ton of scratch.
Nope. I tried it for a couple of years and didn't like it so I went back to the technical side.

I think my company pays well although I haven't done any market comparisons. I'm also a top performer so I can exceed the salary band for my job grade.

Architect. 7 digits.
Damn...I never should have left Architectural school. Do you do something special, own a large firm? I didn't think the career paid that much on average.

I don't regret it, but I admit I do miss it. We are currently working on a home extension and i was like porn to me as I was playing with layouts.

You're not going to make me talk about "decimal points" and whatnot, are you?

Otis, I'm blessed because I have been able to work in teaching which doesn't pay but I have had the luxury of being there for a couple years or so now. I don't want to make this about me because I still get to live a very blessed life but my day to day interactions with economically challenged folks has kept me grounded a bit lately. The problem is I don't want to stay for much longer. I've seen what I wanted to see and accomplished a lot, time to move on.

I also think the income levels in here are partly why everyone was shocked Trump won. We have a lot of wealthy or high earning Liberals which I do find interesting to read their POV but I feel they are massively out of touch.

Great thread. Nobody wants to post this stuff but it's important in gaining everyone's perspective. I know you work in law but my notebook says not an ambulance chaser. You're a family man now, you could make more money with your law degrees but you chose to do something a little different that meant more to you, that's worth a tip of the cap in my book.
You realize that there aren't any lawyers that actually chase ambulances, right?
