How Texas cops handle criminals (1 Viewer)

Doesn't surprise me. I have friends that grew up in Texas and they got away with a ton of ####. One guy, while underage, was drunk and had a car full of beers heading to a party. Cops told him to park his car and walk. Said they were going to be patrolling around these parts and if they saw him driving they were going to bust him.

I don't think I would necessarily classify a young girl drinking a couple of beers as a criminal. Jailbait? Yeah, but not a criminal.

Was common back-in-the-day. I had a cop bust me holding a beer at a dance. I set it down and all he did was ask me to leave.

A couple cops in my area (small town) will still only take the beer. Free beer for their parties.

About 18 years ago (I was 18) I was riding in a car with 2 buddies around 1 in the morning. We were all drunk. Cop pulled us over for speeding about half a mile from my house. They ended up arresting my friend that was driving because he had an open warrant. Cop asked the two of us left who was least drunk and let my other friend drive to my place while he followed.

So this is a pretty big tangent, but it's worth a discussion of whether we were better off as a society when cops were more likely to let things like DUI and underage drinking slide.

I'll start off by positing that, more than likely, DUI deaths are down due to stricter enforcement. On the other hand, I'd also guess that young adults (say 18-25s) have a generally less healthy relationship with alcohol than they once did due to stricter enforcement of under-aged drinking laws, social host laws, "dry" proms and school social events, etc.

To me it's pretty comparable to abstinence vs. safe sex education.

I think this country could do much better raising kids to have healthier happier sex lives and also to have a positive social relationship with drugs and alcohol instead of fostering an environment where we stay sober until we self medicate to death.

Not all cops are bad. Bro and I were heading up to the race track last year. His turn to drive so I have to get road soda's right? Anyhow got pulled over, I had an open container (beer between my legs). He could have actually taken both of us to jail. He poured it out and let me keep the rest of the six pack. Gave my bro a speeding ticket though. Stillba decent dude though.

Parents just suck today.

If a kid gets busted kids parents will get all offended, try to fight it, my kid was being harassed, they want to bring legal action to the police etc.....if that same parents kid got off free and goes and plows into a tree parents will say "how dare the cop let my daughter go knowingly while she was underage and drinking?? You will be hearing from my attorney!!"

This was my thought. What happens if she ends up driving and hurting/killing someone. Cop is gonna be SOL with the lawsuits

Was 17, and heading up to a cabin for a weekend with friends. Got pulled over with a beer in my lap, rest of the case in a cooler in the backseat. Cop took my info, made me carry the cooler full of beer to his trunk. Sarcastically said thanks, and drove away. ####er. Spent the next hour hanging outside a beer store trying to convince people to buy for me. It was a long sober drive up north.

Right, and same parents are complaining when their kids gets busted.

"Oh, you could have just let Megan slide, no need to have this on her record, she is a good kid, now she can't get into so and so school or job"...etc etc

A lot of times, the cops don't want to fill out all of the paper work for such minor BS offenses. Sometimes it's better to try to teach a lesson on the spot rather than going through the PIA system. They (should) have much better things to do than to deal with a bunch of drunk minors.

Open container laws are stupid. Breathalyze the driver to see if he is over the limit, who cares about the rest of the people in the car.

Exactly. What difference does it make if I drank a beer right before I left the house or on the road.

Cops will probably be suspended or fired.

Sucks but cops can't let people slide on anything nowadays
“I have seen the video and can only say that this is unacceptable and unprofessional conduct by these officers,” Burleson County precinct 2 constable Dennis Gaas said. “Officers are given the choice of giving a warning or issuing a citation for any violation they encounter during this event. Playing a game to see if a citation or warning is given does not fall under professional conduct. All officers were instructed during orientation to present a professional appearance and attitude.”
