How to plan a wedding without going in debt (1 Viewer)

I made a spread sheet while going through my wedding, basically a P&L where I mapped out costs of every little detail and then how much each guest gave. Mapping out what everyone gave was very smart IMO, I have known and will continue to know in the future who gets a good gift and who gets a ####ty gift. On to the wedding itself:

Hall: $100 a head for a moderate place… 120 guests = $15k (tax, gratuity included)
Wedding dress, her second wedding? Let her rent one = $300
DJ = $2k
Skimp on flowers = maybe $500
Limos = $500
Photographer = $2000
Honeymoon = plan a vacation, figure it out

120 guests, hopefully covering the cost of their plates = $12k

Assuming a $4k honeymoon and another $1500 in misc. costs (gifts for groomsmen and #### like this), you're out of pocket about $14k and you've got a nice wedding. If you skip the honeymoon you're out of pocket = less than $10k

Airfare for 3 to FL (stepson was 9) = Free (used miles).

Stay with family for mini-vacation = virtually Free + meals.

Disney World/Sea World = Free (sisters friends work there).

Condo on the beach = BILs client, so Free.

FL Marriage License = what $40?

Dress = $20 (wife's decision; picked out a nice Prom dress on clearance).

BIL is Notary and officiated = Free.

Flowers = Free (sister picked up a bouquet and some corsages).

Dinner at waterside restaurant = Free (Mom bought).

Drive to/from Miami = Free.

7-days Carribean cruise with us and our son after 9/11 = Free+ (work travel vouchers + maybe $700 on-board).

Had a number of days afterward with family for extended vacation.

Airport Parking = Free (Frequent Parker credits)

Best ever and only wedding for both of us.

ETA: Forgot we had a party at the lake after we got back. Wife made most of the food. Took kids tubing, volleyball, swimming and plenty of liquor and fun. Made money on the deal.

Yeah. Again, you can get rid of most of that. This won't be a traditional type wedding. It'll be more of a backyard summer BBQ. I've got an iPod with over 2000 songs on it. I'll go buy a couple kegs. I'll set up some games like horseshoes and that game where you throw a frisbee at a beer bottle on a pole. We'll fire up the grill and cook some burgers and hot dogs. We'll rent some tables and chairs. And there will be probably about 50 people there, if that. No limos. Not sure on the dress, but since I work for Big Wedding, I get a pretty good deal on that stuff.

I'm not including the Honeymoon in the price of the wedding, because... well, just because. We just want a nice beach vacation for a week, but we haven't decided where yet. I've always wanted to go to Hawaii, but her brother just went there for his honeymoon and she thinks that's weird. I don't. Maybe a US Virgin Island or something. No biggie there. I don't mind paying for that stuff.

Just go to a different island than he went to, maybe she'll be fine with that. Hawaii is the place to go.

I'm still making my case on this. She seems to be bending, but then I think, "Do I really want to make her go somewhere she doesn't want to?" We have a little over a year, so we'll talk more. I just like the idea of not leaving the US. I've traveled enough out of the country and it no longer excites me. But hard to find a good beach honeymoon spot in the US that's not Hawaii.
