How will Republicans handle inflation? (1 Viewer)

Not sure I follow.  He plays tough guy every chance he gets.  Challenges people to push-up contests, fantasizes about taking Trump behind the school and kicking his ###, Corrn Pop😆

He doesn’t need to make light of his draft dodging because the media never asks him a tough question.  Evidence of that is all the Biden fanboys in here not even knowing he dodged the draft as well.  Funny actually.
Does he?  I truly wish Trump would have taken him up on that.  I don’t Trump can do 5 push-ups.

Well that’s certainly not stopping them… 😉
To be fair mid terms always swing to the party who lost. I see many pundits predicting a red wave in the mid terms. More so now because Joe hasn’t delivered on much uniting or anything really. It’s usually pretty close for the Presidential election. By the way, I seem to remember a certain Clinton that EVERYONE in the media and most of the general public thought would win too. So let’s not act like only one side ever thinks they are going to win whether they are correct or not.

I'll take Biden fanboy over Trump apologist any day.

How’s he supposed to unite people?  How would a unifier actually go about the nuts and bolts of uniting the right and left?  I don’t think it’s even possible short of like nuclear war or an world ending asteroid.  Democrats have to stop that nonsense.

Find policy proposals that both sides want.  Engage the Republicans on common ground instead of trying to ram through progressive wish lists without a single Republican vote.  I always go back to the Infrastructure Bill, there are policies that both side can meet in the middle.  Focus on those.  Take a bunch of small victories.

Daylight savings time change.  Ok, what else?  Almost every single thing instantly becomes binary.

Do you know any soldiers with asthma?
Last year, my son was set for deployment by the Air Force to the UAE. He was lamenting it because not only was this his last year, but his wife was pregnant. When the time came, he hopped on a plane from his base in Montana, leaving his pregnant wife and two year old son.

During his layover in Philadelphia, he got an incredible surprise: He failed his medical clearance due to his mild asthma. He took a flight right back to Montana to reunite with his family. Why they waited until he was en route is beyond me, but nobody was complaining.

https://publicconsultation.org/defense-budget/major-report-shows-nearly-150-issues-on-which-majorities-of-republicans-democrats-agree/
You two are talking about two different groups.  Sabertooth's talking about the politicians (the ones actually voting on these things and making them happen).  You're talking about the people.  The only way your proposal works is if the PEOPLE hold their politicians accountable by voting them out if they don't do their job.  There are a myriad of problems keeping this from happening ranging from personal accountability of individuals to gerrymandering by politicians.

First thing I see is social security.  Uncapping the income cap on it.  No way republicans go for that.
Agree, it should be uncapped.
I’ve never understood why this hasn’t been done yet especially considering all the concerns about future insolvency.  It currently caps at 132k right?

It's rather simple....rich people making sure other rich people aren't being separated from their money.

Sure I get it.  But irregardless it still seems like a no brainer to me especially when factoring in the solvency issues. It’s really not that much more in taxes for people over that threshold.  Even if you don’t put a limit on the top raising it to say 200K makes a ton of sense.

Agree 100%

Agree.  Our current political climate is the fault of voters.  If they held their representatives accountable, then the representatives would have to change their attitudes and begin representing their interests.  It's why I have great respect for Joe Manchin who put the needs of his constituents first over party.

I think we're starting to see a shift in voter attitudes though.  In New Jersey the most powerful Democratic State Senator was sent packing against a truck drive who spent less than $200 on his campaign.  I'm going to be taking a hard look at incumbents in the next election, they better not be a party first candidate or I'm not voting for them.

They should do away with SS altogether, biggest ponzi scheme there is.  Just make it a mandatory 401K that you and your employer contribute to YOU.  Make it so you can't withdraw it until you hit the same thresholds as SS.  Then when you die, whatever is left goes to your family.

This is laughable. The current political climate is being controlled by corporations, special interests, super PACs, etc. All sowing discord and distractions through social and cultural issues. As has been stated several times before there are real issues that both sides actually agree upon, yet someone wedge issues that aren't important are always getting in the way.

How has Machin put the needs of his constituents over his mega million donors, coal lobbyists, etc.  How can you be serious?

Now Katie Porter...that is someone who actually is doing work for her constituents.

He's the closest example of what I am talking about for sure, but the bold is debatable unless by "constituents" you mean the coal industry, then I'd agree 100%

Yep. Joe Manchin is just another corrupt politician using his office for personal gain. It is a huge failure of the media that this isn't brought up every time he is mentioned.

Coal industry employs...go ahead, you can say it.
You'll have to convince me that clinging to an industry that is quickly evaporating is better for them than creating programs to help them adapt and be set for the future.  When this industry is gone, the companies will be fine and the people (constituents) will be left with nowhere to go.  So, I stand by my statement as I don't believe clinging to a dying industry is in the best interest of the worker bees (which appears to be who you are talking about)

ETA:  I've seen very few cases where the "trickle down" approach is ever in the best interest of individuals.

I know he’s kind of a black sheep to the D’s. Do you think if he were an R, he would get different coverage?

Didn’t you hear the news? It’s been fixed.

"Today we received news that our economy had 0% inflation in the month of July."

As a country we closer to a divorce then getting back together. Unity in this country is a pipedream at this point.
Ever since basically the advent of Fox News we’ve been being systematically divided.
FOX is a symptom. The Civil Rights Movement split the country. FOX and the entire right-wing ecosphere was created to help take advantage of the split politically.
getting rid of the filibuster drove everything away from the middle. thanks democrats.

not the courts. as you know. and that is what is driving the split. but maybe you are right no big deal.

I've maintained since the 2016-2017 timeframe our split is mainly driven by the MSM in this country and it became more pronounced with the advent of 24/7 "news". The filibuster is the least of our problems. I agree with @Sabertooth on this one....though it's not just FoxNews
