Find policy proposals that both sides want.  Engage the Republicans on common ground instead of trying to ram through progressive wish lists without a single Republican vote.  I always go back to the Infrastructure Bill, there are policies that both side can meet in the middle.  Focus on those.  Take a bunch of small victories.

Last year, my son was set for deployment by the Air Force to the UAE. He was lamenting it because not only was this his last year, but his wife was pregnant. When the time came, he hopped on a plane from his base in Montana, leaving his pregnant wife and two year old son.

During his layover in Philadelphia, he got an incredible surprise: He failed his medical clearance due to his mild asthma. He took a flight right back to Montana to reunite with his family. Why they waited until he was en route is beyond me, but nobody was complaining.

You two are talking about two different groups.  Sabertooth's talking about the politicians (the ones actually voting on these things and making them happen).  You're talking about the people.  The only way your proposal works is if the PEOPLE hold their politicians accountable by voting them out if they don't do their job.  There are a myriad of problems keeping this from happening ranging from personal accountability of individuals to gerrymandering by politicians.

They should do away with SS altogether, biggest ponzi scheme there is.  Just make it a mandatory 401K that you and your employer contribute to YOU.  Make it so you can't withdraw it until you hit the same thresholds as SS.  Then when you die, whatever is left goes to your family.

You'll have to convince me that clinging to an industry that is quickly evaporating is better for them than creating programs to help them adapt and be set for the future.  When this industry is gone, the companies will be fine and the people (constituents) will be left with nowhere to go.  So, I stand by my statement as I don't believe clinging to a dying industry is in the best interest of the worker bees (which appears to be who you are talking about)   

ETA:  I've seen very few cases where the "trickle down" approach is ever in the best interest of individuals.

I've maintained since the 2016-2017 timeframe our split is mainly driven by the MSM in this country and it became more pronounced with the advent of 24/7 "news". The filibuster is the least of our problems. I agree with @Sabertooth on this one....though it's not just FoxNews
