How would you feel if your team changed their uniform drastically? (1 Viewer)

If the Colts ever changed their helmets to be anything other than what they are now, I would be VERY upset about it. Maybe for the away uniforms they could change the pants to blue, to get away from the all white look, but for me, that's the extent of uniform changes for the Colts that I could stomach.

The Browns actually seem to change their uniforms every other year.

1999: Stripes on the sides of the pants are made twice as big compared to the 1995 version. The orange-brown-orange sequence remains the same.

2002: The socks, which had long featured 5 horizontal stripes (brown-orange-brown-orange-brown on white home socks or white-orange-white-orange-white on brown/white road sock) were discarded in favor of solid brown socks.

2004: The sequence on the stripes of the pants are inverted. Instead of orange-brown-orange, they become brown-orange-brown.

2006: The sequence of the stripes of the pants change again - reverting back to orange-brown-orange. The facemask color changes from white to grey.

I wish they'd stop screwing around. The 1999-2002 version was the best.

While many do not like the Detroit Lions logo, I think it is fine and I don't particularly like change to tradition.

Here is a proposed change to the logo I found:

I dislike adding black as a primary color. Looks as ugly as the Jets black and green unis before Parcells straightened then out and got them back to the classic version.

I wasn't all that thrilled when the Steelers changed from block numbers to the script numbers but I've gotten used to it. Anything more drastic than that I am sure I would not like.

I can't understand why they did that - the block numbers with those tough-looking unis was perfect.

Agreed. I guess they thought it was a more modern look but it likely had more to do with $$$ than anything else. The Steelers sell a TON of jerseys nationwide. It wouldn't surprise me if they went back to the block numbers in a few years to get people to buy the "new" jerseys.

I wouldn't mind the Falcons' changing their uniforms. I actually think they should change it to using different shades of Brown.

Those are some drastic changes.

I like the midnight green look of the Eagles - the kelly green look during the Ryan/Kotite era was very boring (let the Jets have that look). If they could somehow re-incorporate the large shoulder striping from the Vermeil era (as featured in Invincible), I'd be cool with that too.

The problem is modern NFL jerseys are essentially sleeveless - they are designed to fit the shoulderpads as snug as possible.Maybe they could go with the Browns' stripe design on the pants, but make them midnight green with silver-white-silver.

I had an idea for an "asymmetrical" design for a uniform.

Take the Browns.

Helmet: White helmet and facemask. Two stripes down the middle of the helmet - one orange and one brown. On the side where the orange stripe is, put the player's number in block letters in brown. On the side where the brown stripe is, put the player's number in block numbers in orange.

Jersey: White jersey with colored shoulders like the Jets or the Cowboy's alternates. However, one shoulder is orange and the other is brown.

Pants: Keep the three stripe pattern. On white pants, use orange-white-brown.

Loved the Rams switch to a darker navy blue and old gold over those garish royal blue and yellow unis.

Dont care for Seahawk change at all. Especially true when wearing dark/dark.

Don't care for Lion uniforms at all. Stay away from black altogether and bring back the lighter blue.

Like Bronco helmet and colors, but definitely dislike the stripes. Same for the Vikes.

Patriots needed a change. It was a good one.

Bengals same as above.

Jets and Eagles....still awful

HATE the dark jersey/dark pant combo for ANY team. Would love for NFL to outlaw all dark pants period. GB the Raiders for keeping theirs the sharpest uni in sports.

I'm old school. I have despised almost every uniform change.

Loved Denver's Orange Crush jerseys.... hate the new ones.

LOVED the old Rams uniforms.... don't care for the mustard yellow.

Loved Pat patriot.... the Pats unis now aren't bad, but the Grogan years were better.

I liked Atlanta's "Steve Bartkowski" threads way more than the current ones.

I liked the Jaworski-era see-thru Eagles mesh jerseys, just for the novelty of it.

I can't even talk about the Bengals and Bills. :X

The only changes I like:

San Fran's jerseys now look a lot sharper than the Montana years.

Tampa Bay. Enough said. Though I do prefer the "Bucco Bruce" helmet logo.

Jets and Giants. But they returned to their roots, so it's not a new look.

:X I'd hate to see that, but I have many more grave concerns about the Lions than what the logo looks like.

Chargers:

Liked the Powder Blues. Like the dark blues as well, just slightly less.

Definitely prefer the dark blue helmets over the white ones.

I would not be pleased with any changes in Oakland's uniform.

At all.
Yep :goodposting: Edited to add: As a phoenix resident, I am unhappy with the Cardinal uni-makeover b.s. I really liked the simple red and white unis.

The Patriots did it around the same time we were going from being a suckass team for so long, to being Super Bowl contenders, so the new look was kind of a washing away the old way you looked at them. They have also changed them slightly a few times since, I like to current ones, and also enjoy watching the throw back weekend games with an actual good team playing in those Patriot Pat unis.

I like both the Jets and Giants change a few years back to retro unis -- maybe because neither really had a logo in the first place. As a Giants fan, I wouldn't mind another change as long as they kept the blue/gray look (in other words, no blue/blue like Seattle) and didn't get too faddish. They obviously would never move from Blue, and the Jets would never move from Green.

I hate the change the Vikings made to their uni this year. Too college-y.

Yeah, in their first return to the Super Bowl in '97, they had those awful herringbone unis. Thankfully they disappeared quick. I still prefer the old logo to this one, but it's not terrible.

First, agree if the Colts make any significant changes, Irsay should be shot. Ditto for any "classic" logos/uniforms (CHI, GB, etc).Second, IMO most logo and esp uniform changes have sucked. No I don't think it sucked just because I'm "old school," I just think they looked like crapola. eg - SEA (esp those butt-ugly all-blue unis....gawd)- BUF going to a red background on the logo- STL going from yellow to that Grey Poupon gold which is gharish as hell- BAL....they just sucked from day 1. - DEN new ones - actually I think the new logo is good but not a fan of the "pointed" helmet stripe or the too-dark blue....and those comic-book stripes on the uniforms are ridiculous. - NE's new logo is fine (although I'm partial to the old), but wtf w/red, white, blue.....and silver? ??? butt-ugly. They couldn't learn from Philly??- SF - going from the white to black outer stripes was stupid. 80s style was way nicer.- TB's couldn't help but get better, esp getting away from the creamsicle colors, but the new ones do nothing for me.Also to their credit, PHI finally getting away from that 1980s silver was a huge improvement (silver and green....who's crack-induced idea was that?), as was ATL getting away from that gharish all-black mess. Agree that ATL's orig looked better though (I think using the modern logo with the old unis might be the best combo). Also the SD new ones are better - I llike seeing the old ones now and then, but cmon....powder blue? ugh

While many do not like the Detroit Lions logo
Many are stupid. That's a classic logo and just plain looks good. The newer jersey colors/combos, however, pretty much suck.

ExactlyEdit: oh yeah and for most ridiculous looking unis.....CHI with the all-orange jerseys. You can't be serious.

I always thought the old Patriots uniforms were awesome.I cannot understand the current color scheme with the emphasis on gray. Red, white, blue and gray are not patriotic colors - they are rebel colors - the colors of the Confederacy. They should put the Confederate flag on the side of the helmets and be done with it.

I tend to think of them as the New England Rebels or the New England Confederates lol.

I can't think of a worse choice for team colors.

If they went pure red white and blue, that would be to much like the French flag, and who wants to be associated with that? I'll leave the color of a surrender flag to them. ;) <-- so you know I'm kidding and realize the US colors are red, white and blue too

I can't think of a worse choice for team colors.
Orange and ocean blue come to mind. Seriously, besides the old Tampa Bay uniforms, is there a more effeminate looking NFL team then the Miami Dolphins?

First let me say that I think the Chargers dark blue is ugly. If everyone loves the powder blues so much (me included), then why in the hell don't they change to those on a permanent basis?

:goodposting: Worst to the best. Don't understand it. Their regular jerseys are disgusting.

The Buccaneers still have arguably the best uniform in the NFL. Pewter power!

I'm sure you have an idea of what I was going to post here, but I'll save it just this one time. :D
I really like the Bucs uniforms now, except those pants. They look like uniforms that have rolled around in the mud.

Chargers owner Alex Spanos has been asked that very question many times. He is aware that his fan base loves the powder blues, but when the Chargers wore them in the 60s, the team was owned by Barron Hilton. "That was a different time with different ownership" Spanos has said.

That answer by Spanos has to be one of the stupidest responses I've ever heard. Makes you wonder how he ever got to the point of being able to own an NFL franchise. Ok, let's ignore the fan base, because I don't want my team to have the same uniforms that were used by a different owner. What a tool.

Orange makes sense to me when it comes to Florida. And they chose aqua blue to represent the water. I don't have a problem with it.

You said "drastically". The Colts and Packers(my team) wouldn't do it. Minor changes maybe, but the white helmet and horseshoe are NFL history. We're talking pre-1950 with both teams. Giants, Bears, Packer, Lions, Colts, Browns, Steelers, maybe Eagles. It's an exclusive club. No way.

Waiting to hear from a Denver or NE fan.
Bronco fan chiming in:I hated the new unis in '97. Broncos are supposed to be orange, and they went and made them blue?!? The worst part was when Pat Bowlen was introducing the unis - he maid the claim that when viewed from the side, as if viewing down the line of scrimmage - the orange stripe would make the uni's appear "predominantly orange." Yeah, right.I was also very upset that the new unis were designed by Nike, and it was clearly an attempt to sell more merchandise. You can definately see the Nike design language in the uni's and the logo - the swooshes in the stripes, etc. If you look closely, thew Bronco nostril is even a Nike swoosh!Of course, after the Broncos won the superbowl the next two consecutive years after making the switch, so I got used to the new look pretty quickly!!

I was ecstatic when the Jets went back to the retro logo and I love the present uniforms. I have a ton of stuff with the old color/logo and it's painful to look at now.

The Pats logo has grown on me, but I pine for the patriot taking a dump on the helmet days. The Red Jerseys and White Pants. Simple, but those days are gone. Most teams have the USFL look now, and every team that come out joins the generic party. There is no originality in the design of the unis anymore. They all look the same. Even the colors have virtually merged. There hardly unique anymore.

It can't be all bad, because merchandise sales are up, and that says it's what people want.

I'd love to see the Pats go back to a Red, uni to distinguish them from the other 15 teams wearing blue in the league, but I don't see it happening. I see the 15 that aren't wearing blue copping a shade.

I was living in Denver when they unveiled the "predominantly orange" unis. Okay, if one orange stripe, that has continuiously shrunk, makes for predominant, that qualifies. Sort of like Rummy saying you'd have a dickens of a time saying he said things were going as planned in Iraq back in 2003, when that was the motto, just that the media wasn't reporting it. I hate the Broncos, but at least their unis had Character. Gods teams with the Orange and Blue of the Rocky Mountain Sunset. Gone in favor of Navy blue, and a pinner orange stripe, that will be a pinstripe by 2010.

It's just a uni, but it's irritating. But, we are living in Generica in the days or Genericiizing everything. I guess our NFL unis go with the package.

In the early 90s the Packers gave some thought to making a drastic color change. They considered going to blue uniforms which was the color they wore in the 1940s. That idea was shot down quickly due to fan reaction.

I wish they'd have gone with a powder blue color and a better team name than the Texans. It's too boring and bland and unoriginal.

I would have loved if they'd gotten permission to use the Oilers name and uniform design and just update it a little.
