***Howard Stern*** (1 Viewer)

Longtime Stern listener who doesn't get Sirius. ( I get free XM because we bought a car with 3 months of free XM and in that time the guy who sold us the car quit.... and I guess forgot to tell them to turn it off.) I just started listening to O&A and I think that they are good but nowhere near the level of Stern. It kind of reminded me of an article in The Wrestler magazine circa 1985. In it, a reporter ( I believe Bill Apter) ran a story about who the true Nature Boy was..... Ric Flair or Buddy Landell. Apter spent a day with each of them and found that in spite of certain similarities.... Landell was nuts to think he was the true Nature Boy. Landell took to him to a run of the mill Italian restaraunt where they had to wait in line like everyone else. Flair took him to the finest steakhouse in Charlotte where he had is own table, waiter and was comped the meal. Falir was also surrounded by fans whereever he went while Landell was just another face in the crowd. This is how I see O&A and Stern. O&A are big fish in a little pond... but until they get the level of celebrity that Stern gets.... they are Buddy Landell to Stern's Ric Flair.

I’ve always loved Stern and I hated the thought of not being able to listen to him anymore, but I just couldn’t see myself getting Sirius because I hate the idea of paying for something I’ve always gotten for free. But, after listening to David Lee Roth for two days, it was either commit suicide or pony up the cash for Stern. I’ve listened to O&A in the past (and I’ve liked them) and I’ve listened to them occasionally on Directv, but they blow compared to Stern. They remind me of Don and Mike. Amusing, but really just not as funny as Stern’s show. O&A. Don and Mike. They are just OK.For me, Stern is only part of the draw. I love the Whack Pack and the rest of the crew as well. Stern just does it better. It’s a fact. O&A are nothing compared to Stern.

The excuses for Stern lying down and taking the daily abuse is lame. Back in the day, he NEVER would put up with this. And regardless whether he wants to give O&A "free press" or not, he's letting them say horrible things about his daughter. What father would let something like that stand?ETA: Oh, Bubba the Love Sponge is fighting his battles. Nevermind.

Attacks back and forth between DJs are annoying. Howard might not be doing it now, but he's been very guilty of it in the past and dollars to donuts will find himself attacking peers again very soon. When I heard O&A do it, I was bored.Anyone worth their weight should not feel the need to do it.I never listened to O&A until I got XM. For the 15 years prior to that, I listened to Howard every day. I see a lot of people saying how much better Howard is, and I don't see it. They're different and I think they're both funny. But for those who see a huge disparity, I think you're crazy.

If you like stories from a magazine notorious for making up fake stories to sell issues, then this is a great analogy to the real life Stern vs. O&A war!Don't forget to reference the story where "Liz Hunter" cowered in fear behind Stan Hansen's couch before his wife came to her rescue and sent her on her way with Hansen's secret chili recipe!

I've listened to Don and Mike for about 10 years now and couldn't agree with you more. They're funny, but Stern is miles ahead. Perhaps the dynamic of having one host rather than two is the difference for me.

You remember something from a wrestling magazine from 1985?

It's amazing the trivial things you remember.......

I just read that he's only broadcasting four days a week.

THAT is a sweet deal he signed.

Hopefully he sold his Serius stock as soon as he got it.
He has been five days a week so far but he will be down to four some time. He wont sell his stock, it would hurt the rest of the stock he has now. he might sell enough to pay taxes but that should be small amount.

Howard Stern sucks

He was never funny

Howard Stern is old and out of touch

His time has passed

I used to like him

I never got him

Just trying to get all the bashing out of the way.

The truth is, like him or not, Howard Stern shaped not only radio, but entertainment as we know it today.

Anyone that knows what radio was like before Howard realizes that it was nothing more than newsradio or musicjocks.

Anyone that heard Howard in the early days noticed that this was something different. It was like nothing else on the air.

I remember early on, when he was forced to play music, that I actually couldn't wait for the song to end so the show would continue.

I was working as a plumbers helper, and the mechanic was a big fan. We would wait for the commercial before we would go into the house and hope to finish the job before the commercial break ended.

Anyone that listened in those days knew that this was something special.

That said, 20 years later, I will say Howard Stern is the greatest entertainer in my lifetime. Who else could keep fans interest 5 hours a day, 5 days a week, for this long. Some people seem to like him, and then turn on him. My guess is that he insulted them somehow along the way

Me, I'll be listening to him as long as he's on the air.

GB Howard, for 20 years of great entertainment.

I'll be there on Day 1 of Sirius

Bashers welcome

At this point, you'll never get it.

Couldn't agree more.....I'm from Canada, and got Sirius USA installed just so I could listen to Howard since Sirius Canada was being goofy and not offering him from Jan 6 onwards. A lot of us Canadian Stern fans put a lot of pressure on Sirius Canada, there were a couple sites that had petitions going etc....anyway, it was announced today that Sirius Canada will start carrying Howard as of next week! Seems Sirius Canada has decided that revenue isn't a bad thing!Howard and Sirius RULE!@

The JD and kissyfur bit this morning was pretty damn hilarious, I was laughing the whole way to work

Anyone know a good site to DL his show?  That azureus site went pay. :coffee:
yeah, Sirius.com get a download every day for 12.95 a month
Perhaps you missed my implication: I'm not gonna pay for Sirius. I would prefer to get the show for free. TIA.
Perhaps you missed MY implication: If you don't pay you shouldn't get the show.YWIA
Perhaps you were mistaken in thinking I was interesed in moral judgment instead of helpful advice. Wyldfox was helpful earlier in this thread in pointing out a good free site to DL the show, I'm now looking for similar info.PGKY.

I'm not familiar with this word.

LOL at Cheap tools who can't afford 43 cents a day, but will go through all this trouble to find it for free. 43 cents is less then a minute of my value.

So the time you took to randomly critisize some guy over the innernet cost you at least 44 cents?

It's commonly accepted slang for "going to."  Please don't equate my use of slang with your illiteracy.
Helpfull is common slang for I hit the "l" button too many times.
You are quite a scholar.BTW, Torrentspy.com looks good.
I don't normally jump into this sort of spat, but since you're pointing out typos...is there any reason you didn't capitalize the first word in your screen name, Captain Keyboard?(Edited because I make typos too.)
