They were fortunate to have come up in an era where their brand of (white) pop rock/r&b was in demand. If they'd hit five years earlier, they'd have been dismissed as musical lightweights; ten years later, their lack of marketable image would have prevented them from getting through the door.

I've lived in the Bay Area throughout their long run so I have an excuse to be sick of them but other than that, I don't understand the hate. They had a handful of memorable hits and never strayed too far out of their comfort zone to release anything truly embarrassing.

Wife is from Mill Valley and had to listen (radio) or watch (MTV) every time they came on. I can relate to being sick of them. :kicksrock:
