Hurricane Irma Roll Call (1 Viewer)

Henry, you are doing a great thing here!! Us FBGs here in Colorado can't imagine something like this.
The first responders are doing great things. The scientists are doing great things.

I'm just screwing around on a message board.  Total self interest.

When I start the blood drive thread (or this turns into it) I'll accept accolades.

Speaking of which - everyone not in the path should prepare to donate blood.  Get your drinking out of the way now, on roughly Tuesday we'll probably need to start to help the people in Florida and the Keys.

I know only one person in real life that is in FLA.  Old friend of the family. He's near Naples.

That's pretty safe, right?

And not to be callous but maybe this is karma for selling your 1971 Mustang Mach I to a total stranger in like 1983 instead of me right before I got my license.

The western movement has canceled my evacuation plans.  It no longer seems a good idea to head to Atlanta.

I have family in the Satellite Beach area on the East coast of Florida, family in Bradenton on the West coast, and family in Moultrie in southern Georgia.

So, lots of family in the way.
Does this mean you're staying and should be on the list? Where are you? (Sorry I missed this)

14 hours to get to Atlanta. Arrive to find out that my town is out of the cone and will probably only see TS force winds. Now the storm is projected to roll into Atlanta on Tuesday, which may prevent me from driving home until Wednesday. At least I should have a home to return to.

If you've never driven 14 hours in a base trim Nissan Versa with your mother and a dog, I'd recommend passing on the experience if you have the option. God, that car sux.

Probably karma for something else he was doing at the time.

I know you don't want to hear this right now - especially from a Ravens fan - but you did the right thing given the information you had.

Thanks.  All hotels full.  At a rest stop right now east of Tally just getting our bearings and relaxing a bit.
I'm east of Tallahassee. You are welcome here. If my friend hasn't welcomed someone else she told me I can offer her bunk house to my friends. If you want to come here pm me.

Forecast for today.  Sunny. High 76F. Winds NE at 5 to 10 mph.

I77 has been a zoo.  Rumor has it that gas shortages are on the way due to Harvey hitting the supply and Irma causing demand.

Better to be that guy in the Versa with your dog and mom 10 times than to be that this guy once.  http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2017/02/06/11/3CE3C22700000578-4195674-image-a-14_1486380475103.jpg  Having a home to return to is a bonus too.

Lots of family in Ft Myers/Estero. My uncle has a home with a freshwater Lake on one side and a canal on the other (goes out to the Gulf). It's several miles inland. What are the chances the surge goes up that canal and floods his area?  High I bet.

He's on Tenmile canal. Near Harborage.

Was the Versa a stick or automatic? If it was a stick, I can imagine the rage building as you drove. Bottom line, you may need a new clutch.
Automatic, thank God. I was flooring it off of every stop in the hopes of getting to 60 within 10 seconds. My mother hardly ever drives, so she just bought the cheapest car she could find. I didn't know they even made cars without power windows any more. I just don't trust her dog not to urinate and drop bombs all over the leather interior of my new Mustang.

He's staying? @eoMMan?
My bad for not responding sooner. Me, my wife, my mom and two dogs all got out of SW FL safely. We are in Nashville, which I gotta say....is a pretty awesome area. The weather currently is damn near perfect. I'm going to go run at one of the beautiful parks nearby in a little bit.

When you are done go downtown, pound some brews, and listen to awesome music all day.

No worries.  I'm in Charleston, and it's looking less and less of an issue for me.  Of course it could still turn.

Welp, everyones been saying for years that Tampa Bay was due for a big one. The run of luck had to run out at some point. Im back to being nervous. My biggest fear at this point is projectiles flying through a window or sliding glass door (no shutters here) or hitting my car (I just dropped full coverage last month. oof).

Its strange...along with the nerves is a bit of excitement too...not like this is gonna be fun or anything...maybe its adrenaline starting to kick in as I keep finding little things to do to prep...this is just so damn surreal.

Why did you change your car insurance?

Im paying down some CC debt so Ive been cutting costs here and there...thats a $50/month cut I wish I didnt make. lol
Yeah hope that doesn't bite you.  Can you put the car in a garage or something?

Could be worse. All morning I've been imagining my rage if I still lived in Savannah and the entire county faced mandatory evacuation to Atlanta which is already full.  (I can understand mandatory for the islands for storm surge but the governor jumped the gun on the East models.)
