Watching a receptionist with her jacket over her arms backwards with a neck tat. Nothing screams tough like being cold in seventy degree indoor weather.

tats are dead. Hate me.

see! I misspelled it in an attempt at humor and individuality! But I can still reed it, rite?

So I had a plumber over to fix a leaky pipe under the house. Funny thing, his neck tattoo only made him seem more trustworthy to me. Like, I felt he was less likely to screw me over than some other guy because of his neck tattoo. It took a minute of thinking about it for me to figure out why I got that impression, but, I think my reasoning is: he owns the business. And no one else is going to hire him, other than himself, with the tattoo for any other kind of job. So this is all that he's got. He owns his own business and if he screws it up and gets a ton of complaints or shut down or out of business, he doesn't have many options for a fallback. So, I figure his stakes on doing a decent job are higher.

I support guys that own their own businesses that have eff you tattoos. Not swastikas, but pretty much anything else.

If anybody knows this punk song im riffing off of, twenty internet points

arms are cold and her hair is blue

im waiting for the girl with the neck tattoo

Maybe not judge people so much? People are different.
I knew I’d get STEADY. I judge very little actually. I hate tattoos. They drive me nuts. But I don’t really judge the person, if that makes sense. I just hang my head at this point. EVERYONE where I live but wine country has tattoos and then the wives have small, script ones. Argh.

In my attempt to be unique in my adult life, I didn’t get any tattoos.   Buck the trends my friends.

I still judge but try and remind myself that everyone is just trying to get by t best way they can for the most part.

But I get you. I see awful tattoos all the time and let’s be honest, a neck tattoo is really only not an awful idea if you have millions in the bank.

I have a ton of tattoos but you can’t see any of them when I’m in a suit. I’ll keep it that way.

I think I feel the same way you do about tattoos that I feel about the stretched out earrings.

Good advice, STEADY. I need to keep your first sentence’s predicate in mind. Everybody is just trying to get by and doing their best. Words to live by, actually.

OK... this will crack you up...   my oldest son has a few tat's...

1) the first 4 letters of our last name ...  are a slang term for a female/female grinding action   He has "TRIB" pasted 8" high across his back

2) He worked at a farm, rode horses, etc for 2 years.  Liked the "rodeo" idea....  got "Cowboy Up" on his arm (prison term - when you google it)

Thankfully for him, most older people think "Tribune" when they see that. The younger ones are the ones cracking up, and they don't care.

I should know better, but this is a ridiculous and prejudiced POV. You know nothing of his background nor his qualifications and made a judgement solely on appearance.

Note I did not call the OP a "name". The same type of sentiment was/is prevalent around people with dark skin, long hair, earrings, wooden leg, etc. They may or may not be qualified for any type of job. What one looks like should have no bearing.

Judging people based on appearance has been going on for thousands of years. It's human nature. It's not going away.

If it is appearance they are born with then I agree.

If somebody wears jorts and a wife beater to an interview that isnt their appearance I am judging. It is their decision making process.

Jorts and a wife beater, fine. I get that. I would be hesitant to hire someone in that situation. That's an instant "I'm going to an interview, this looks fine" type of decision. Not a good look.

A neck tattoo is a "This defines me" type of decision. I'd be more inclined to hear out a person that is confident enough to say "Here I am."

You think a neck tattoo would prevent someone getting hired as a plumber? Do you live in a rather rural area or the Bible Belt?

No I mean if he couldn't work as a plumber and had to change careers. Forty with neck tattoos is a hard place to start over from

Gotcha. Yeah it does limit your options quite a bit though I think the stigma is much less than it used to be. I was surprised 2 years ago when my local upper middle class suburb fancy grocery store hired a woman with a couple face tattoos. I’m sure some customers were out off but she was a really nice person and seemed to do a good job.

I’m just trying to figure what wearing a jacket backwards over her arms means.
Come to think of it, I'm not sure how to describe it, either. Put your arms inside a jacket with the body cavity facing towards you, I guess. Then slide the jacket over your arms so that your arms are covered while the rest of your body is immobilized, sort of like Fair Warning's straightjacket analogy. Yeah, what you do is totally immobilize your upper torso with a binding jacket that only covers the arms.

Then walk around the office with a neck tattoo.

Then you've got the receptionist at the collision yard that I was dealing with yesterday.

Help! I can't move my body but my arms aren't cold and my neck is needled!

I can't even begin to understand people who don't like tattoos on women. #sexy
Yeah, I can't stand it.  Really narrows down the porn options too.  ;)

I usually can get past small ones, but the full sleeves are a trend I don't get.
