I hate drinking... (1 Viewer)

Coconut water (or other high potassium intake) plus a Vitamin B complex will do it. Stay away from pain meds and sports drinks.

Have a bachelor party in Montreal in a month. I wasn't looking forward to struggling to put in a late night and then handling the carnage the next day. I'm going to give overloading on 5 hour energy a shot.

What beer were you drinking?
well its usually high alcohol content IPAs
at least it's good beer, that is usually my problem. Three or four craft beers, all good. Three or four piss water beers, feel like ####. Maybe go with something more in the 5-6% range and see if that helps.
Complete opposite for me. I can drink a dozen Bud Lights and be fine the next day. Drink 7-8 craft, hoppy beers and I get a terrible headache.
Plus the massive dump.

Ok whats up with the dump. Sometimes thats the only thing that cures my hangover and it often comes in the middle of the night withme busy sitting on the bowl all dizzy and ####.

oh, and u may want to consider changing your avatar again. It just brings up a bad memory for everyone about how the internet tricked many of us into looking at child pr0n a few weeks ago.

I agree with the hydrating while drinking and before bed advice. It also helps if I get up and do something physical the next morning. If I lay around all day, I will feel like crap most of the day. If I get up and do something, the hangover usually goes away a lot quicker. Might need a nap later in the day though.

You will regret that decision. 5 hour energy drinks will give you the worst hangover you've ever had.

Mods, please change the title to "I hate not being able to handle my alcohol." TIA.

No need to disparage booze here.

Same. I'm a beer snob. But I can't take more than two 20-oz craft IPAs else I'll wake up with a hangover. For the most part, I only partake in those occasionally and my go-to beer now at home is PBR.
Um. No.

Good call. I should say I used to be a beer snob.

Had some guys over Friday night for beer and pool. My (adult) son who isn't much of a drinker joined in. About 5am I heard him go to the bathroom. And then again around 6am. I asked him later if he had a case of the beer ####s.

See that a lot of people talk the hydration - and I agree with it.

One thing I didn't see anywhere was loading up with food - either before the drinking, during it or after.

Always helps me.

I'm a lightweight drinker....maybe drink 10-12 beers per month.

Friday night I hit it pretty hard. Drank the equivalent of about 8 beers in a couple of hours. Not a ton, but a lot for me. I was feeling it pretty hard.

I spent the last hour drinking a TON of water. Slept for about 5 hours and woke up with a minor hangover. I then took 4 ibuprofen and in an hour had no ill effects other than a pissy wife.

One of the things to remember about IPA is that drinking 4 IPA's might be the same amount of alcohol as drinking 8 Miller Lites.

Another big key to avoiding the hangover is to make sure you can sleep in. If you sleep through the bad part you will never know it happened.

Because the hangovers ####### suck when you get older. Im 36. Is there anyway to avoid these horrible hangovers. I get hangovers from as little as 4 beers now. Supposed to goto a beerfest in a few weeks and a wedding in October and im not even excited cuz im already worried about the horrible hangover im gonna have.
One of the many reasons I went from a heavy drinker to barely drinking at all anymore. It got to the point where the hangovers were no longer worth the drinking. I still drink on occasion, but I know I'm going to pay for it the next day. Sometimes two. I went out Saturday night and had 5 beers. Slept terribly and had a horrible headache in the morning. Probably won't have another beer for a couple weeks.

And I will say that there was a time in my life that I thought "If I ever have to stop drinking, I'm not sure if I could do it." Turns out I don't miss it as much as I thought I would.

Don't listen to him. 5hrs are basically just triple B Complex with Caffeine. They work miracles to prevent and cure in my experience.

That is my story as well. I used to be a heavy drinker. Everything involved drinking. When I was about 40, I started feeling sluggish the day after drinking even a few drinks. I have a drink every few months or so but I never have more than one. It was not worth the pain of getting even slightly drunk so I stopped. I never thought I would stop drinking. My wife still cannot believe it. When I met her, she thought I had a drinking problem. As usual, I was right and I could stop if I wanted. It was not that tough and I enjoy every morning a lot more.

I hear you...I'm not a big drinker anymore either becuase I just can't afford to feel like crap the following day. I had weddings last weekend and this weekend and had about 6 drinks at the one last weekend, and 5 at the one this weekend. I managed to feel OK.

My keys are to just drink as much water as I can stand before I go to bed. It doesn't have to be Beer/Water/Beer/Water, but rather, I just hydrate like crazy before I go to sleep. Admittedly, I end up having to go pee like an hour after I fall alseep, but I'll re-hydrate then too. I don't sleep great, but I don't feel hung-over, just tired.

If I DO wake up with any bit of a hangover, I eat a big greasy breakfast, then I'm fine.

I wonder how many alcoholics are able to quit due to hangovers getting worse as they get older. Maybe you were able to stop at 40 but wouldn't have been able to at 30.

I think that's something that just works for you.

A really bad hangover for me goes until 5pm. I've had that occur even if I have a hotel room to myself all day. I drank 5L in Munich once and was in bed in the hotel all the next day.

I eat a big dinner before drinking, drink water as I go and usually I'm ok. Also 3 ibuprofen and another glass of water right before bed helps.

Lately I've had minor hangovers where a cup of coffee in the morning snaps me out of it.

I'm still hungover from Saturday night. Pretty sure if I keep this up I'll be dead by 50. Maybe 45 if I can step it up.

I thought I was an alcoholic, but I'm not.

Smoke weed when you wake up with a hangover. If you're going to be sluggish anyway, you might as well not have the pounding headache and feeling like crap.
This is definitely the answer and basically why God invented "wake n bake". Yes, avoiding the hangover in the first place is optimal, but once it's too late, not much is more helpful than a couple hits of some good stuff.

For me, the extra energy leads me to drink later and feel less drunk than I should. More drinking means a bigger hangover.

It's a decent option in the morning though.

Had a bbq yesterday. Started drinking sam adams octoberfest around 1pm. Had about 6 beers, two large red wine sangrias, and two shots of jack daniels honey bourbon (mmm thats some good stuff). Not too much over a 8 hour period plus i ate a ton of food. Only had a slight buzz going. Anyway, normally i wouldve woke up with a horrible hangover but this time is drank a small water between each drink. Besides getting up about five times during the night to pee i had no headache, no dizziness, no hangover whasoever. Ill do this again next time and see if it works with IPAs or shorter duration drinking sessions.

Thanks everyone !

The best cure for a hangover headache is 100% oxygen on emergency pressure feed. This is more a cure for any active duty Air Force flightline types. I used to go in hungover and at 8 AM it was already way hot on the flightline. Get into a plane and hit the oxygen. Headache gone almost instantly. Which immedaitely helps with all other symptoms.

Well in most cases. I am pretty sure I gave myself some level of alcohol poisoning by drinking Wild Turkey straight and chasing it with straight Wild Turkey. That hangover lasted about 3 days. I was so sick the first day my supervisor just let me go home. I was useless. Second day wasn't much better but I could work. Day 3 I finally started to feel like I was going to live. For years all you had to do was open a bottle of Wild Turkey and I would get sick off the smell.

Had a DUI in 94 so I pretty much quit at that point. Maybe have had a dozen drinks since then but haven't had a drink in the last several years. Which is really the best hangover preventative.

I agree with those who say to hydrate before bed. The weird thing for me is that once I switched to bourbon I no longer have headaches and hangovers. It's really strange. I can drink all the bourbon I want, and I usually feel pretty decent in the morning.
Interesting. I've had completely the opposite experience. I love bourbon, but unless I plan to limit myself to 1 maybe 2 drinks with it I'm going to end up as a total mess.

Whereas with light crappy beer I can generally drink many units of it without too much of a problem either that day or the next.

Drinking has become significantly less fun for me also and we have reached a similar age shady.

It has come to basically I can have a fun night of boozing with a great buzz and just suffer for the next day... or I can do the drink/water/drink/water thing and I don't get a buzz and have to goto the bathroom every 30 min.

Gatorade does nothing for me also... I have had success with coconut water... also with a dramamine before bed.

Basically the only way I"m going to end up ok though is if I have some serious planning that also gets executed.

I think a good portion of my hangover comes from just a ton of lost sleep.

Either way it's probably for the best moving forward for me to limit alcohol consumption... but I have fond memories of some great boozing nights in my 20's.

I didn't follow my own hydration advice and was a POS pretty much all day yesterday. Worst hangover in years. I had severely cut back on alcohol consumption until Saturday night, which probably didn't help the situation. I may never learn.

9:30 PM college football kickoffs suck.

I don't drink IPAs because of this. Last hangover I had was off four pints of Bell's Two Hearted Ale over the course of a few hours.

I stick to Heineken if I'm only having 1 or 2; Coors Light if I'm planning on having a few more than that (e.g. football game)
Four Bell's Two Hearted gave you a hangover? That is really surprising.

Heinken taste like skunk and Coors Light tastes like nothing. Blecch!

You may have ladies and money galore but at least I can drink good beer without getting hangovers. Hey It isn't much but it is something.
