It still makes the game so much more fun and you have money riding on your season. The hell with retiring. Fantasy football is still awesome.
Meh. My first 6 or 7 years it seemed to make the game of football more fun to watch...then I realized that I didn't give a crap about the game, just my players. Watching football hoping this guy scores, or that guy actually takes away from the game, IMO. That, and its just a bunch of work keeping up with all the stats, injuries, matchups, etc. Since I retired, I enjoy the game immensely more, and I actually watch my NFL team every week instead of flipping through as many games as I could. In a nutshell, I think watching football as a FF player was more intense, but as a non FF player, its more enjoyable.

I just got my FBG subscription renewal and I'm trying to do some research for my draft next week. I just don't like this anymore.

I did get out of the work league, so just my home league and uberdynasty left.
Don't do the research.

FBG's did the research. Just go with it.

I did familiarize myself with the cheat sheet and added a few notes to self on players that were really close and I just had a better gut feeling on player "x" that i would draft higher.

There's no reason to pay for the good work and then not utilize it.

Draft, enjoy, spend 20-30 min a week looking at matchups and checking the waiver wire... done.

That's an interesting way to put it. For most people I think intensity equals enjoyment though. If I didn't have fantasy I really wouldn't care at all about most, if not all, of the games. What I quit was being a "fan" of any and all pro teams. I grew out of that. I prefer winning cash over "my" team winning.

Hey look at me, I can't enjoy watching football when I play magic football!11

I am down to just one long-running team. I found that with so many teams, it was hard to celebrate a player's achievement as it almost always ended up hurting me on another league as much as it helped me in one.

Exactly. All my research is reading this forum, watching some preseason games and just remembering who I liked last year when I watched. I Iove the tools (DD & weekly articles). They are my baseline and then I just decide around from there based on my other stuff. None of my research is "work," it is when I take a quick break (work from home, so no cooler talk breaks ever) or I don't have any work to do that night, the kids are asleep and I am just watching some show.

I enjoy the drafts the best, but I still have fun playing, mainly because a couple years ago I realized I was taking wins/losses way too seriously. The FF stakes I play for are not big enough to take it seriously. I like to win, so I am not going to be one of those owners that doesn't even do transactions once they are out of it, but it is meant to be fun if you aren't playing for high stakes.

One thought, are any of the people quitting guys who make money every year or lose money? I generally make more than I put in every year, so I know I would not be playing at all if I was losing money every year.

I won money like 7 out of 10 years or something...I quit because it just wasn't that fun anymore, it had nothing to do with money.

Yeah, I guess that was sort of a dumb question on this forum. While I am sure there are some bad FF players on this board, overall I am sure the folks here collectively are making money.

Had 3 dynasty leagues:

- quit one I was in for a decade that needed a rebuild and I didn't have the time to do it

- another folded in which I had a dominate team

- recently quit the last one that was a loaded with young talent

Finally realized I don't like it as much as I used to.

The commish in my local league has been in the final game each of the last 5 years, winning twice. I won last year and another owner has won twice. I keep making the playoffs but winning more titles than those other two guys is what motivates me to keep playing for as long as we keep the league going. And the smack talk is fun. The cash leagues with random online people don't hold my interest anymore.

I still drop into the SP from time to time and it's such a relief not to care about anything that is going on.

I feel like I just dont like football as much as I used to and its bleeding over into fantasy. Seems like most games are either blowouts or just 2 crap teams.

I can definitely relate to that.

It has been refreshing to go into the SP and just read...and maybe post or give an opinion and then if some guy seems to be turning red in the face and starts defending his guy (which is probably only being so staunchly defended because it is literally "his guy" on some FF team somewhere), I can just say "ok..just one guy's opinion.  Was trying to share info, give you something to think about..Take it or leave it."

It's nice to just simply not be so wrapped up in it anymore. I'm probably getting carried away but it seriously seems like EVERYTHNG is just a little nicer now..More time to NOT care or check player news or try to overanalyze something that really matters nothing.

Not trying to be mean or a ####, but that is the saddest thing I think I've read on these boards in a while.

This was me with baseball and basketball. I just got bored of baseball. Basketball, I just have not liked how the game has evolved or devolved. I do like watching college basketball but NBA just sucks now. I stopped fantasy baseball and basketball a long time ago.

Still enjoy football and still play fantasy football.

LoL, really?  It's sad that someone enjoys things so much that they wouldn't want to live life without them.  Doesn't that kinda stand for everything we love about our lives?  Would I be able to live without either?  Absolutely!  I love my wife, kids, house, job, vacations, etc...   But I enjoy them both very much, so I wouldn't want to not have them.

How's that sad?

Don't worry Chappy.  The prevailing attitude in the FFA is that many have "grown past" Fake Football and have other more worldly pursuits.

There are still plenty of us here that still love it to varying degrees.  Though with the information that is out there these days (especially some quality podcasts and other FF sites) the usefulness of FF chat boards like the Shark Pool is not worth the time or psychotic personalities.

Would you rather listen to a couple of knowledgeable people that spend most/all of their time on the game discuss their RB rankings and why or sift through guys name call and argue or the "will answer yours" on a chat board?

so you have no passions in life? Thats some sad stuff right there, probably the saddest thing ive read in a while

That is me.  FF totally distorted the way I watched NFL games.  I would root against the Lions if my player was going to score a game winning TD against them. At one point late in a season I had no idea what teams were even in the playoff hunt..nor did I care. On Mondays I never knew who even won the games. I would be happy when good players got injured and it hurt my opponents teams or I had the backup. Upset when my players went down. My mood swings on Sunday were pissing off my wife..she could tell if I was having a good or bad day.

I quit my 2 serious league 2 years ago and now am enjoying the games again for what they are. I still play in one fun league but just put my lineup in and don`t check a score until Monday.

I use to be like this and it went into hyperdrive the couple of years that I did the NFL package with DirecTV. I couldn't watch a freaking game unless it was the only game on. I would bounce around from game to game trying to see what player I had was doing what. It was real complicated being in several leagues.

I pretty much now will watch whatever game I am interested in and then check scores here and there online. I set my lineups and for the most part let things work themselves up from there.

I will jump and try to make some moves based on an injury or something but most of my leagues have a wire system that makes it NOT first come first served so it less and less matters now.

This is the problem for me.   I still enjoy fantasy football in leagues with guys I know because it's something to do to keep the gang together and have a dudes only night at least once a year.

But NFL football just isn't as entertaining to me anymore.   I suspect that much of that is age (although I still enjoy baseball quite a bit), but also that the rules and style of play has changed so much that the game is so different than it was as recently as 10-15 years ago.

So when you don't watch football very closely, you're drafting guys after about round 3 that you've never heard of before which is less fun,  you don't really give a crap about your team as much... and it's just not as fun (unless you get off to a really hot start and think you've got a chance at a title...that's still fun).

So you do have passions, but your passions are more important than someone else's then?

Nothing that I couldn't imagine my life without.  Maybe with the exception of my family.  So yes.  The passion I couldn't see myself living without is more important than Fantasy Football.  We done here?

The more I age the less i care what happens to a bunch of whiny millionaires on a field. I used to follow baseball, basketball and football religiously but now I am down to football with that quickly waning.

pretty spot on.

I've thought a lot about how bummed out I got about the latest Chiefs playoff loss... or seeing Federer fall to Nadal,  or how pissed off I was about the helmet catch....   and then I realized that at some point I actually might be caring about the result as much or possibly more than the person who participated in it.. and that's insanity.

And I further realized that their agony in defeat was soothed driving home in their 100K vehicle, sleeping on their 10K mattress,  drinking some thousand dollar scotch, and porking a supermodel quality chick..    and once I finally realized all that...   well I found myself just not caring anymore

I think so, it's just really cool to judge people on what they like or dont like.  And if you dont like it tell them it's sad...

I officially dropped out of the league I founded 19 years ago this week, and am at peace with the decision.

I gave up the Commissioner-ship a couple of seasons ago thinking that maybe only being an owner would help rekindle my interest, but it didn't help.

I'm hoping to become a fan of football again, not just football stats, and being able to enjoy a game on TV without being bothered by the constant numbers in the ticker at the bottom of the screen.

I hate to bail right before what would have been our 20th season, but it had to be done.  Feels good.
