Well leftcoastguy7, let me ask ya something, are you a people person? Would you like to be your own boss? PM me for this exciting opportunity!!!

Medical device or medical components sales. The former sells to Drs the latter to manufactures. I do the latter and make 6 figures.

In all honesty, telecom sales is a great field to get into IMO particularly as an agent. I'll be in the industry 7 years in January, and "they" keep saying it's a dying industry. But the industry keeps finding new ways to reinvent what we sell.

Businesses will always need data and/or IP connectivity in some fashion or another, in the future more than ever. And nearly the entire industry pays out commissions on a monthly residual basis based on percentage of billing. May be something to look into.

So you're one of those guys who cold-calls and asks to speak to "The business owner"?

If you don't have that magnetic people personality and aren't a great talker, then good luck in making it "rich." The only way you make money is on commission and that means being able to not only sell the product but yourself. Just a tip I got from my mom who is the #1 top designer on the west coast for Ethan Allen Galleries and top 10 nationwide.

Get a job at Enterprise Rent-A-Car, because they got an excellent corporate structure and they... they give you the tools to be your own boss.

Less and less true. Not sure it ever was.

Enterprise

Black and Decker

Cintas

Gallo

etc... but these businesses tend to hire out of school.

Yep. This is a huge fallacy (unless the sales you do are in-person high pressure). In my industry studies showed that the data-driven, process-oriented sales professionals outperformed the 'talkers.' Essentially it's about organization of your current lead flow, consistency in communication, listening to the needs of the consumer.

2 best lessons I've learned...

1. Selling ain't telling, it's asking

2. Sell benefits, not features

To do these you have to listen to the prospect and understand their needs, then explain how your product/service can address those. And if it can't, be honest and don't waste your time.

If you are starting off, have half a brain, are driven and don't mind selling. Start your own business. The amount of time and effort you put into a business of your own to start off will pay off later while the time and effort you put into sales for a company helps to make someone else rich. If I was starting out in life again- absolutely I would see to start a business of me own and build it.

By talkers I didn't mean shooting the shiiiiiit. I mean they know how to steer the convo into making it seem like it's a sure thing. Not that they bs. Majority of consumers would catch on to that and you'd lose your sale. You have to be very well knowleged in your products AND be a great talker as I described. You have to known the trick to closing the deal when they are waffling. It's not deceit, well for many known great salespeople it isn't.

I prey on competitive "talkers" and those using "tricks" to close.

Hey, I'll tell you what. You can get a good look at a butcher's ### by sticking your head up there. But, wouldn't you rather to take his word for it?

To be successful in sales long term, I would say that this is the winning formula:

1) Be genuine and honest

2) Become a subject matter expert on whatever it is you are selling. The industry, your company, your products, competitors products, etc

3) Do what you say you will do (follow through) and say what you will do (communicate)

4) Use a consultative sales approach- discuss benefits you can fill when uncovering need/want

5) Be willing to generate your own business (network, cold call, etc) and ask for referrals from your current book of business

6) Ask for the business

The whole personality/talking thing is about two things really: 1) Most people want to do business with people that they like. If you are likable then you will be more successful. 2) If you are not willing to talk to people then you won't be successful. If 100 people come across your face and you don't ask for business from any of them- your failure rate will be 100%. People with personality/talkers tend to be the ones that are willing to throw themselves out there and start those conversations. Note: tend.

If you have a burning desire to succeed, are motivated to win, hate to lose, and want to eat what you kill then sales is for you. If you could picture yourself working in a DMV, save yourself the pain.

#### you. That's my name. You know why, mister? You drove a Hyundai to get here. I drove an eighty-thousand dollar BMW. THAT'S my name. And your name is you're wanting. You can't play in the man's game, you can't close them - go home and tell your wife your troubles. Because only one thing counts in this life: Get them to sign on the line which is dotted. You hear me you ####### ######s? A-B-C. A-Always, B-Be, C-Closing. Always be closing. ALWAYS BE CLOSING. A-I-D-A. Attention, Interest, Decision, Action. Attention - Do I have you attention? Interest - Are you interested? I know you are, because it's #### or walk. You close or you hit the bricks. Decision - Have you made your decision, for Christ? And Action. A-I-D-A. Get out there - you got the prospects coming in. You think they came in to get out of the rain? A guy don't walk on the lot lest he wants to buy. They're sitting out there waiting to give you their money. Are you gonna take it? Are you man enough to take it? What's the problem, pal?

My watch costs more than your car. I made $970,000 last year. How much'd you make? You see pal, that's who I am, and you're nothing. Nice guy? I don't give a ####. Good father? #### you! Go home and play with your kids. You wanna work here - close! You think this is abuse? You think this is abuse, you ##########? You can't take this, how can you take the abuse you get on a sit? You don't like it, leave. I can go out there tonight with the materials you've got and make myself $15,000. Tonight! In two hours! Can you? Can YOU? Go and do likewise. A-I-D-A. Get mad you son of a #####es, get mad. You want to know what it takes to sell real estate? It takes BRASS BALLS to sell real estate. Go and do likewise gents. Money's out there. You pick it up, it's yours. You don't, I got no sympathy for you. You wanna go out on those sits tonight and close, CLOSE. It's yours. If not you're gonna be shining my shoes. And you know what you'll be saying - a bunch of losers sittin' around in a bar. 'Oh yeah. I used to be a salesman. It's a tough racket.' These are the new leads. These are the Glengarry leads. And to you they're gold, and you don't get them. Why? Because to give them to you is just throwing them away. They're for closers. I'd wish you good luck but you wouldn't know what to do with it if you got it. And to answer you question, pal, why am I here? I came here because Mitch and Murray asked me to. They asked me for a favor. I said the real favor, follow my advice and fire your ####### ### because a loser is a loser.
