Ice Cream Thread (1 Viewer)

The weather is heating up, which means it's ice cream season. So what's your jam?

Are you mostly getting ice cream from the super market and gorging at home? Waiting for the ice cream truck to come along? Or do you have a favorite local spot?

What's your go-to flavor, or if there's more than one, what does your rotation look like?

Are you a cone or cup guy? Soft Serve or the hard stuff? Sprinkles, Nuts, other toppings? Do you go full Sundae? Do you go for milkshakes?

WHAT-CHAAAAAAAAA GOT?!?!

I like Rocky Road, Chocolate Chip and Chocolate Chocolate Chip. I eat out of the carton cuz I don't share. Not picky about brands.

I also like a Blendini from Rita's Italian Ice.

my favorite ice cream of all time is that blue ice cream with the gumballs mixed in. I'd still order it today if it was socially acceptable.

Ben and Jerry's Stephen Colbert's American Dream is amazing.

If we can mention frozen yogurt, I can crush some salted caramel from pretty much any FROYO (OK to write but not say? Ruling?) place.

Throw the term FROYO right at the top of the Pet Peeves thread, IMO.

I prefer Ben and Jerry's Rush Limbaugh's Bacon N' Lies.

I always think about how I used to order it as a kid and the thought of it today repulses me.

Ben and Jerry's Half Baked is my favorite.

My kids love Cherry Berry- I can't stand that stuff.

I'll go for a Peanut Butter Cup Perfection from Cold Stone any day.

From the store, usually Rocky Road, Choc PB or something with brownie in it

Homemade with electric ice cream maker. I prefer vanilla: 2 cups heavy cream, 2 cups half and half, 1 cup sugar, 6 egg yolks and two vanilla beans.

Old lady likes lavender, instead of the vanilla beans in the above recipe food process a hand full of lavender flowers into the sugar to make lavender sugar.

I'm going to go revisit the conceal and carry thread if any health snobs come in here with their fat free yogurt and ice cream isn't good for you BS.

If this thread goes anything like the cereal thread, it won't be long until posters are lining up to tell us how unhealthy ice cream is and the only reason anyone would it eat is due to economic despair.

Ben and Jerry's or Haagen Dazs, whichever one is on sale.

Many flavors, with a bias toward anything with chocolate and peanut butter.

Ice cream is not a problem if it's an infrequent treat.

Some people eat cereal every day.

I like to take a decent Fudge Swirl, then throw on some Spanish peanuts and chocolate syrup.
Have you always enjoyed spanish nuts in your fudge swirl?
Have you always looked for homoerotic subtext in discussions about food?
Dont always have to go looking for them
Just constantly on your mind, huh? Well, good luck with that.
Tell me more about all the chocolate you pack in to your sundaes

I sure as hell don't keep it at home because I'd eat it all at once.

Good old chocolate in a waffle cone is my go-to.

My personal favorites are...

Toffee Heath Bar Crunch*

Peanut Butter Cup

Cherry Garcia

* Not as good as it used to be since they no longer use authentic Heath Bar pieces.

DQ Peanut Buster Parfait

Any flavor of these these

Right now am a big fan of the Dean's Fanny May Mint Meltaway

Don't keep much in the house anymore though.

There's a local ice cream shop, uses all local and simple ingredients. They have some creative flavors and I've killed some pints like cannoli, honey and lavender, dark Italian coffee, tres leches, ginger snap, cinnamon and dark chocolate, blueberry pie with graham cracker crust chunks, etc. it is really a hidden little gem.

Blue Bell recall :(
Yeah bummer, completely cleaned out of the store with a sign that they will be back soon.

I know it sounds crazy but their Homemade Vanilla with NOTHING tastes so much like my dad's hand-cranked homemade vanilla that it takes me back to that time. Even then I liked that (and only my dad's hand-cranked vanilla) better than my favorites at Baskins-Robbins (been mentioned ...Chocolate with PB chunks like Reeces, Mint Choc Chip and Pralines and Cream).

Dacquiri Ice was excellent too, don't know if they still have it. Tastes just like one.

I've found the perfect combo. Breyer's vanilla with mashed up chunks of famous Amos chocolate chip cookies, topped with a GENEROUS serving of reddi whip. Awesome

There's a stand down the street from me that makes a single serving of ice cream to order using fresh ingredients and liquid nitrogen. It's a better concept than reality IMO. It's overpriced as you'd expect and you have to stand in line with lots of tech DBs. The end result is cold and creamy but somehow the texture doesn't seem quite right.

Blue Bell Mexican Praline is something I look for every time I go shopping. It's only there maybe once every three or four months. But although I am a fudge-oholic, I can never pass up that Mexicaned ice cream.

From the Ice Cream capital of the world so there are always plenty of flavors but the good old standard vanilla is still my go to. Wells had a monster cookie one here a little while go that gave it a run for its money though.

Forgot this place too - carried by Fresh Market groceries.

Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream (Columbus, OH) flavors
Grossly overpriced and over rated.

Nothing beats Mitchell's: http://mitchellshomemade.com/ But, if you aren't around Northeast Ohio, then you probably haven't heard of it. Their Caramel Fudge Brownie is freaking awesome.

If not going to Mitchell's, I am a Ben and Jerry's guy... Half Baked is my current favorite, but I swing through phases...New York Super Fudge Chunk...Cherry Garcia...Pistachio Pistachio...Oh, so many to choose from!

Chocolate with wet walnuts is my go to, but I've been known to audible to butter pecan on occasion.

Certainly agree its overpriced and some of it over rated - like a lot of these places. What I like is getting to taste something I have never tasted before - and Jeni's brings those kinds of combinations.

ETA: spent a lot of time in Cuyahoga Falls (about 10 years - met wife there too) but never got to Mitchell's, I'll make it a stop next time I go see the in-laws.

Cherry Garcia used to be my favorite, but now it has very little chocolate in it.
Yeah, they've really f'd up a bunch of their flavors recently. Between the changes to those already mentioned and their totally ruining what used to be my personal favorite (Chubby Hubby), I rarely get B&J anymore. The "core" kinds all suck, too. Half baked and peanut butter world are still pretty good, though.
