IDP heavy league (1 Viewer)

Has anyone ever played in a league that is VERY IDP heavy?

i.e. start QB/RB/WR/WR/TE/flex/K

and then start 3DB, 3DL, 4LB, D-flex

Scoring for offense is standard, but for defense, it's basically big play + 2x tackles + assists:

2 points for every Solo Tackle

1 point for every Assisted Tackle

10 points for every Interception

8 points for every Sack

5 points for every Fumble Forced

5 points for every Fumble Recovered

6 points for every Safety

6 points for every Defensive TD

2 points for every Pass Defended

To give an idea of how this scoring works out, here are the top defensive scorers from 2007 in this league scoring:

LB - 30x LBs >= 250 points

1) Patrick Willis - 356 points

2) Brian Urlacher - 355 points

3) James Harrison - 310 points

4) Nick Barnett - 298 points

5) Kirk Morrison - 297 points

DB - 41 DBs >= 200 points

1) Marcus Trufant - 283 points

2) Leigh Bodden - 281 points

3) OJ Atogwe - 272 points

4) Nate Clements - 268 points

5) Roman Harper - 265 points

DL - 20 DLs >= 175 points

1) Patrick Kearney - 266 points

2) Jared Allen - 258 points

3) Jason Taylor - 252 points

4) Trent Cole - 244 points

5) Osi - 237 points

5 points bonus is given for any player with 15 solo's or 20 total tackles in a game.

Thoughts?

Sounds similiar to an EFS (Extreme Fantasy Sports) league. Truly the best types of leagues imo. Very challenging when offense = defense. :banned:

That's pretty similar to the system I've been using for the past six years in my main league. We start QB RB RB WR WR WR TE FLEX. And on Defense: DT DT DE DE LB LB LB CB CB S S FLEX FLEX. Solos are two, assists 1. 3 points for every half-sack, and an additional .2 pts for every sack yard lost. PD are 1/each. FF, FR and INT are six/each and there is an additional .1 point for every yard of INT or FR return yardage. I think we also have certain "milestone" bonuses for number of solos and sacks in a game. Last year the top 3 LB were Patrick Willis (363.40), Brian Urlacher (323.30) and DeMeco Ryans (293.30). The top CBs were Nate Clements (255.10), Marcus Trufant (242.00) and Leigh Bodden (240.50). The top Ss were Chris Harris (245.20), Roman Harper (232.00) and Oshiomogho Atogwe (226.50). The top DT were Darnell Dockett (198.20), Jovan Haye (190.90) and Shaun Rogers (169.20). The top DE were Jared Allen (276.50), Patrick Kerney (251.80) and Osi Umenyiora (250.30). Patrick Willis was the #6 overall player in our scoring system behind Tom Brady (530.04), Randy Moss (431.30), Brian Westbrook (413.30) and Tomlinson (399.58).

Once you play in a system that has robust scoring on the IDP side, it's really hard to go back. Anything less than 1.5/solo feels like a token IDP league to me now, and at 1pt/solo and 3/sack the IDP scoring is so muted and the relative value of offensive players so high that acquiring top IDPs is neither necessary nor particularly advantageous. I find even Zealots IDP scoring to have little impact on the overall value of your team, and in a recent startup Zealots dynasty league, I didn't take my first IDP until the late 17th round. (Willis went at 4.12, which struck me as absurd..and I LOVE that guy!). There are plenty of Paris Lennons available as late picks/FA pickups every year that will get you 8/game so that you don't have to blow a high pick on a guy that will get you 11/game IMO. Amping up the scoring (and the roster spots!) on the IDP side even by a factor of two still doesn't push IDPs ahead of offensive players, but it does make them begin to have some significance.

truth be told, I am just getting into IDP, and it seems that an IDP league with this type of scoring would be ideal for "true IDP"

the IDP league I just joined has what could best be described as "token IDP". Patrick Willis was the highest scorer on defense yet had less than 150 points. That's a RB3 or something.

i've been in efs and another league that's run by a guy who wanted to have live scoring and left efs to develop his own league. IT'S THE BEST TWO LEAGUE I'VE EVER BEEN A PART OF!!!!

Won 2 of last 3 in the championships in one and went 17-1 in the efs league.

What do you really want to know?

Do you guys start OL? We do in both of my leagues.

Are you looking for a new owner???? :goodposting:

I would be interested in this other "live scoring" league if its similiar to what EFS offers...

I once played in a league that was ONLY IDPs. :XI'd do it again. It was fun.
 Might be doing something along these lines this summer.Obviously, I'm also of the mind that IDP values should approximate that of offensive players. It's no different than any other league, however. You need to figure out what the true relative values of each position are within your specific scoring system and lineup requirements to learn player values, then adjust your planning to what your leaguemates are most likely to do to take advantage of those values.

So would I as a former EFSports owner. Any info or a contact available at all?

hey guys, I have a free fleaflicker league tht I set up where IDP matters just as much as offense

QB/RB/RB/WR/WR/TE/Flex

then

DL/DL/DL DB/DB/DB LB/LB/LB and 2 flex options

the scoring is basically big play + tackles, so that the IDP players are rewarded heavily and score well. I also give bonuses for DL's on sacks and DBs for PD and picks, so that the scoring evens out a bit

here's how the top 30 scoring in 2007 looked:

1 T. Brady QB 390

2 P. Willis LB 352

3 L. Tomlinson RB 308

4 J. Allen DL 304

5 T. Romo QB 296

6 R. Moss WR 287

7 P. Kerney DL 282

8 B. Westbrook RB 280

9 B. Urlacher LB 279

10 P. Manning QB 275

11 D. Williams LB 271

12 O. Umenyiora DL 270

13 D. Ryans LB 269

14 J. Harrison LB 269

15 M. Trufant DB 267

16 L. Bodden DB 266

17 T. Cole DL 264

18 R. Harper DB 263

19 E. Henderson LB 263

20 Big Ben QB 261

21 N. Barnett LB 260

22 M. Williams DL 260

23 D. Brees QB 257

24 N. Clements DB 256

25 D. Harris LB 254

26 O. Atogwe DB 254

27 D. Anderson QB 253

28 J. Taylor DL 252

29 W. Witherspoon LB 251

30 J. Beason LB 251

if you're interested, I already have the league set up on fleaflicker, and I'd like to get a large league (preferably 24 teams) going on this. PM me, email me @ robert dot beare @ us.army.mil and lemme know!

I'm in a couple of leagues where we start 7Off, 11Def and have tweaked scoring to give every position similar value. These days its pretty much the only format I care about, the all IDP league does sound interesting as well though.
