IDP Scoring Feedback (1 Viewer)

Okay to preface this I'm a newbie when it come to IDP - so keep that in mind if I say anything stupid. I started a 12 team league at Reality Sports Online last year that incorporates 3 IDP slots (DL, LB, DB). I tried to do a ton of research on the scoring systems and got feedback from everyone in the league - we basically implement the PFF IDP Scoring Revisited System.

Our current settings for all IDP positions are:

Tackles: 1.00 points each

Assists: 0.50 points each

Sacks: 4.00 points each

Half Sacks: 2.00 points each

Tackles for Loss 2.00 points each

Interceptions: 5.00 points each

Fumble Recovery: 2.00 points each

Safeties: 6.00 points each

Forced Fumble: 4.00 points each

Passes Defended: 2.00 points each

Blocked Kicks: 3.00 points each

Touchdown: 6.00 points each

I'm looking to get some feedback on potential improvements. We found last year that consistency was all over the map for positions other than ILB. I'm trying to determine if that is just the nature of IDP or is it something inherent in our scoring system? Could this scoring system be introducing more "luck" into the starting line-up?

I assume this is considered a big-play scoring system as Sacks are 4x the tackle rate.

Any feedback on good scoring systems would be appreciated.

Hey Noah,

Saw a few things that could get tweeked if you've had results that seem to introduce luck into your scoring system

Our current settings for all IDP positions are:

Assists: 0.50 points each

1/2 pt per assist seems high and assists get dished out differently by each team scorer so awarding a half point per assist 'could' introduce the luck factor into scoring. How our league handles assists is to award 1 point per solo but for every 5 total tackles the player is awarded 1 point. The idea is to diminish assists in the final box score due to the fact the league does not have consistent scoring for assists. Solos are much more universal. We don't completely wipe out assists but this scoring does significantly diminish guys who get credited for high assisted tackles.

Interceptions: 5.00 points each

Seems about 1 point too high to me but others have this. Interceptions are luckly plays in many cases, tipped balls, pressure to the QB forcing a bad or early throw, etc, so giving 4 points per interception seems adequate but going 5 seems like it is inviting the luck factor.

Forced Fumble: 4.00 points each

Again seems about 1 point too high.

Passes Defended: 2.00 points each

Haven't seen 2 points per PD. I actually like awarding more than 1 point but this but it seems a tad high. Maybe decreasing by a half point would give more consistent scoring outputs.

Just some suggestions to mull over. :2cents:

What league platform do you use? If it's one that counts sacks as Tackle For Loss as well, I think sacks are too overvalued here (1 pt for solo + 2 pts TFL + 4 pts sack = 7 pts). Otherwise, I mostly like it except I think turnovers are too undervalued. Why is an interception worth only 1 point more than a sack? Much more of a game-changing play.

Here's the system I use up at MFL, modeled after the Estimated Points Added statistic at AdvancedFootballAnalytics.com:

personally, I don't like the values for safeties and rd --- it's just entirely random.

I'd probably bump it down to maybe 2 for the safety and 3 for the td.

I try to minimize the lotto plays.

also, and this is just my personal opinion, but 3 idp are terrible.

it's like playing in a 6 man league --- you can pretty much just stream players and not put yourself at a disadvantage.

I would definitely expand that out and force people to have some idp opinions.
