QB
Bulger, Marc STL QB - 5
Garrard, David JAC QB - 7
Jackson, Tarvaris MIN QB - 8
I wasn't going to invest an early pick at QB because you can get top 5 production in a survivor league by harvesting the peaks of a boom/bust committee. I got this trio in the 9th/10th/16th. Garrard is the baseline guy, Bulger the big upside guy, and Jackson, the last viable QB (he did have 2 TDs in 3 of his last 5 games of 07). Of course, a trade of Favre to the Vikings would submarine my plan, but otherwise Im happy with this group and this part of my draft went according to plan.
RB
Jackson, Steven STL RB - 5
Morris, Maurice SEA RB - 4
Rice, Ray BAL RB - 10
Torain, Ryan DEN RB - 8
Turner, Michael ATL RB - 7
I usually go RB2BC in a survivor, but things broke differently in this draft. Yes, I did go Sjax over Westbrook at 1.03, mainly because of the chances that Westbrook misses an early game in any given year. Im a Turner believer, so getting him at 4.10 was too good to pass up. He won't help much as a receiver, but I expect 20+ carries in most games. Because of him falling to me I was able to skip RB for the mid rounds and target 3 high upside guys for byes/injuries later in the draft.
WR
Coles, Laveranues NYJ WR - 5
Evans, Lee BUF WR - 6
Jackson, Vincent SDC WR - 9
Jennings, Greg GBP WR - 8
Robinson, Laurent ATL WR - 7
Smith, Steve CAR WR - 9
I was real happy with my results here until Smith got suspended. I was planning on getting one stud and I wanted to get a top WR4 and WR5 since this was a PPR league, and I wanted my flex to come from my WR corps. I got Jennings, Evans, Coles in the 5th/6th/8th, and I think Jackson's boom/bust profile week to week is perfect for survivor. I thought about taking Drew Carter to cover for Smith in wk 1 and 2 once the suspension came down, but I really dont think he'll outscore any of my other WRs those weeks.
TE
Lewis, Marcedes JAC TE - 7
Miller, Zach OAK TE - 5
This part of my draft went totally according to plan. I got Miller as TE12 and Lewis as TE17 and I expect both to outperform that position by at least 4 slots.
PK
Stover, Matt BAL PK - 10
Suisham, Shaun WAS PK - 10
Two kickers that don't have a bye in the first 8 weeks and I got them in 32nd and 37th.
DT
Brock, Raheem IND DT - 4
Ngata, Haloti BAL DT - 10
This was also a simple plan - get one baseline guy with no bye in the first 8 - Ngata, who I got in the 29th, then Brock, my upside guy in an 8 pts per sack league. He can rush the passer from the DT slot, and the news that he'll get some snaps at DE while Freeney is coming along made him a slam dunk pick in the 31st.
DE
Allen, Jared MIN DE - 8
Schobel, Aaron BUF DE - 6
Smith, Will NOS DE - 9
White, Dewayne DET DE - 4
In an 8 pts per sack league, I thought it was of utmost importance to be rocking two 15-20 pt scores a week from DE and give myself a good shot at third to be my D flex. Allen at 3.03 was discussed earlier in this thread. Schobel was the guy I had targeted as my DE2 from the get-go. I was psyched to get him at DE11, he's a top 5-8 guy in my book. Will Smith was too good to pass up as DE14 since he had no bye in the first 8 + the DE run was well underway by then and I considered it imperative to get three studs at DE with this scoring setup. I wanted a high upside DE4 who would give me 2-3 of those 15-20 pt weeks, and I had three I was waiting on Mathis, Abraham, and White. Once two were gone I was going to pull the trigger on the third, and I got White in the 25th. All three were major values.
LB
Brooking, Keith ATL LB - 7
Crowder, Channing MIA LB - 4
Fletcher-Baker, London WAS LB - 10
Johnson, Derrick KCC LB - 6
Lawson, Manny SFO LB - 9
Thomas, Zach DAL LB - 10
Serious value in this group. I wanted a base of guys with no bye in the first 8, and I got LFB in the 7th as LB8 (he's in my top 5, and the week 10 bye just inflates his value), and Thomas in the 15th at about LB27, who I expect to be top 15-20, plus he also does not have a bye in the first 8. Because of that duo, I felt I could wait a while for my LB3-5, and I never expected the value I was able to snag. Johnson, Crowder, and Brooking all in the LB45-55 range - all three will play every down, and if my DE plan goes well, I may only need one to score in any given week. Manny Lawson just fell way too far. 34th round?!? in a 8 pts per sack league, the chance that he could put up a 20+ game or two was too great to pass on, even though maybe i could have used a third TE or DT more, I couldnt pass up a possible sackmaster as a lottery ticket on D.
CB
Buchanon, Phillip TBB CB - 10
Hobbs, Ellis NEP CB - 4
Revis, Darrelle NYJ CB - 5
Winfield, Antoine MIN CB - 8
Got some nice value here of Winfield at CB7 and Revis at CB19. Winfield should score for me every week, and Revis can go off in any given week. Buchanon and Hobbs were strictly for byes/injuries in the 36th and 38th, with Revis and Winfield I felt no urgency to spend picks on backup CBs until the end.
S
Grant, Deon SEA S - 4
Huff, Michael OAK S - 5
Polamalu, Troy PIT S - 6
Williams, Madieu MIN S - 8
I have to say I did not expect to get a quartet of safeties this good since I made it one of my lowest priorities. Polamalu as S12 in the 20th and Williams as S26 in the 30th were gifts. I expect both to be top 10 safeties in at least 3-4 of the 8 scoring weeks. Huff and Grant will fill in the gaps, both are ballhawks and at 8 pts per INT all it takes is one theft to score well enough to make the lineup.
