Given an 18 Game season, do you think there will be any teams without a RBBC?

How do you think teams will handle their stud RBs: Alternate Possessions? New RB Roles (1st&2nd Down vs 3rd&4th Down or 1st&3rd)

How much more/less important will RBs be from a fantasy perspective?

Just curious and would like to get a discussion going.

a lot of factors.

1) is there 2 bye weeks?

2) how is the preseason/training camp handled?

I do think you see RB's have "carry counts" similar to beisbol's pitch counts.

What I hope happens is that ffl moves to "team RB" and we don't have to worry about it.

if not, they'll just lose value.... instead of a 1st round full of RB's you'd see mostly QB and WR's

Playing in a league with team running backs would be really lame. I mean, relatively speaking. Don't see that catching on whatsoever. There are already carry counts for running backs depending on the running back. Some can take more punishment without wearing down in a game, some can't. I don't think two extra games will affect it much if at al. Coaches do whatever they can to win a game. Fisher isn't going to tell Chris Johnson to sit down because he reached his 22nd carry in the 4th quarter.

You'll see a lot more resting at the end of the season (provided the RB makes it that far). Teams that have clinched a spot (and even teams that have been eliminated) will probably use the main RB very little in games 18 and possibly game 17.

Good posts so far, 20 hour bump.

No idea other than that it will be an 18 week schedule, I find it hard to believe there wont be 2 bye weeks also increased roster sizes.

i think i read somewhere where there would not be two bye-weeks (sorry no link)

definitely be some resting in weeks 17, 18, 19 will make FF playoffs a nitemare

our local league will probably vote to have FF superbowl in week 17 to hopefully stay away from this

you will have teams clinching byes earlier in this format, and even those teams that clinch spots yet cant improve to a bye spot will also rest guys

and lastly, RBs (unlike QB to WR) will not lose the "timing" by sitting

i think like an above poster that you will see even more QB and WR in the first round

and forget EVER trading for a 3-down feature back, they will be like gold bullion

I think you'd actually see a few more RBs in the first round as guys slated for the majority of the teams carries will be a lot more desirable. It would make RB/RB more popular again, and getting 2 RBs in the first 3 rounds close to mandatory.

I'm curious how this affects fantasy football season lengths. Most of my leagues have our championship game Week 16. I'm guessing most leagues will have it Week 18 now?

This topic may require its own thread but I'll chime in here for now.I run a 12 team league and will probably do it like this.....Three divisions of 4 teams.Play each division foe twice (2 x 3 = 6)Play each non-division foe once (1 x 8 = 8)Week 15: 3 vs 6, 4 vs 5 (1 and 2 get bye)Week 16: semi finals.Weeks 17 and 18 (two week Super Bowl, add up scores for both weeks).Week 19: nothing (since half of the teams will be resting players anyway).Being able to play everybody in the league at least once helps in tie-breakers as head to head can be used in all cases. An alternative could be two 6 team divisions. Play each team twice (2 x 5) + each other team once (1 x 6) = 16 weeks. Then run the playoffs in weeks 17, 18, and 19.

Anyone know if they're thinking of ending two weeks later (or 3 with a 2 bye week system) or would they start Labor Day weekend, putting the SB champ's Thurs. game in August?

My :jawdrop: , just drop 2 preseason games (1 road, 1 home), raise the ticket prices for the 8 regular season games to match what the 10 game package costs now & give the season ticket holders the option to see the 1 home pre-season game for free or they can donate the tickets to a local charity (tax-deductable, of course). Let some fans that can't afford a ticket come & cheer on their team. They would probably stick around longer and be much happier to be in the stadium then most season ticket holders anyway.

Not 100% positive but I thought I read they would be getting rid of the 1st and 4th Preseason game, in place of the 4th preseason game the regular season will be starting and at the end of the regular season they will be adding one game.Doubt any teams would be running QBBC but id imagine QB depth would be much deeper, maybe have a solid backup for every team to come in on 4th quarters kinda of like a reliever and to play in the end of the season. How do you guys think this will effect the Fantasy Football Norm rosters (1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 RB/WR, 1 TE, 1 D, 1 K) no change? Additional slots? I typically play deep but with it turning into an 18 game season my leagues are becoming Dynasty.

I would like to see the 18-game season lead to a surge in popularity of best-ball leagues. PPR caught on a while ago ... now it's time for something else to catch on. With increases in injuries, luck might play a little too much of a factor in FFB. Maybe best-ball will appeal to more FFB players than it does now.

Say it together:

RBBC
Post is so helpful.

Care to elaborate? Ive never heard the term 'best-ball'.

It just means that owners don't decide on starting lineups each week. Instead, the highest-sccoring guys on your team automatically get used as your "starting lineup". This avoids the "guy blew up on my bench!" problem, and somewhat insulates FFB squads from in-game injuries. It also changes draft strategy a bit, because boom-or-bust guys get a bump up if they've got credible upside -- consistency of performance is a lot less important.

I think, at least in dynasties, that it will greatly increase RB value. I can see the idea of the poster above thinking that people will want QBs and WRs early but I think as soon as one season is played, it will become obvious that, since most leagues require you to start at least 2 Rbs, owners will need to stock pile ANY RB that is even remotely useful. By the end of the season, because of attrition and teams resting players, etc, more RBs will be used than ever before. It should lead to RBs emerging and disappearing more frequently than ever.

Some people will adopt the philosophy of getting the stud QBs and WRs and then just switch out Rbs all the time. Others will stockpile the Rbs because they are needed and will see the advantage at the end of the year.

I'm not sure if either is more "right" than the other, but it WILL change things.

My first thought on it is, on my dynasty team that has a few stud long-term WRs, I am absolutely scarfing up RBs at the end of this year.

I have really mixed feelings about this type of league, I dont think I could give a non-biased opinion until after the 2011 season.Ive also heard they are considering having divisional games at the end of the schedule to stop teams from sitting the last couple weeks which I think is a good idea.
