If Peterson gets suspended... (1 Viewer)

They don't learn how to solve their own problems by getting hit with a belt.

What getting hit with a belt teaches them is the way to exact control over another person is through intimidation, bullying and violence.
Apples and oranges.  The threat of corporal punishment and teaching kids to solve their own conflicts with others are two different things.  Parents have a tendency to jump in and solve all conflicts and that is bad parenting IMO.   You would be surprised how well kids can solve their own problems without violence.  I'm not talking about bullying, but kids disagree and if they happen to get into a tussle over a disagreement, that isn't a horrible thing as parents today think it is.  Like I said earlier, get into a fight with a buddy then go build a fort and laugh about it.  As for whipping a child,  I don't agree with hitting any small child with a belt, but a nice butt whipping with your hand isn't out of line.

No video or photo evidence this time, so he should be just fine.  If there is one thing the Ray Rice incident taught (along with many other situations to follow), it's that visual evidence.....of these type of "crimes" is the only way people will care.

It may not be "child abuse", but study after study shows that using a belt is bad parenting. It doesn't teach children to understand consequences -- it just teaches them that bullying is a good thing.
Im not saying its right or wrong (I personally believe parents should pay attention to the personality type of their child and parent accordingly)...

...just that this isnt something Peterson owners should be worried about.

Well then why are you in here talking about solving problems when the issue being discussed is Adrian Peterson striking a child with a belt?

Leaving a red hand print on their butt is going to happen with a spanking.  I believe the issue is long term marks and bruises.   Perhaps if more children were disciplined by other than time-outs and give me your cell phone, or not at all, they wouldn't go into schools and shoot their classmates.  Just a thought.
I work for child services so yes a red mark would be enough to define as child abuse. If that red mark goes away before a child services worker sees it that isn’t physical abuse. I said it varies state to state because I know my laws and the surrounding states I work with.  We work with preponderance of evidence.

Why do you say this? Players have been suspended for something others have said. Without proof. Here the guy is admitting to beating his child.

since when does the NFL care about state law, or even innocent until proven guilty, when it comes to suspension?
Because he expressed his discipline method not that he abuses his child. There is no chance he gets suspended for saying he chooses to spank his child with a belt.

I saw another place in this thread that his child had marks and bruises and I am not sure if that is recently or from the previous incident. So if marks and bruises were found and he admitted to spanking with belt that is different story.

Thus a problem with the system.

Practically speaking there’s no way he gets suspended for those statements.

Could this lead to child abuse complaints that could then lead to problems?  Sure, but we’re not there yet.

If anybody is really worried about abuse the story should be about the child primarily, not the suspect.  So I’m pretty disgusted with how this is being reported by the media.

Wow, this thread went off the rails.

I doubt Peterson gets suspended.  But Peterson's results have certainly dipped recently.

If Peterson does miss time, his carries would probably go to Marshall or Perine.  Perine has been inactive most weeks lately.  Bibbs is more like Chris Thompson's backup.

Millennials are the softest group of wussies ever put on earth. They play video games all day. I did normal things like play ball, chase chicks, etc

If not for this post, I was going to suggest moving this thread to the FFA.

We’ve seen what Perine can do and it ain’t much. I’d gamble on Marshall if I had to.
