And Greg I do believe he can do some special things on a football field. That said, he played on a fantastic college team with a very good OL in front of him and a terrific defense that allowed him the ability to run around and make plays. He is far from a pocket QB.
2005: Ben Rothliesberger...pocket QB with some mobility but can stand in a deliver the ball.
2004, 2003, 2001: Tom Brady...terrific pocket passer...can move a little but is not running all over the field.
2002: Brad Johnson...pocket QB all the way.
2000: Trent Dilfer...pocket QB
1999: Kurt Warner...pocket QB
Do I need to keep going...very rarely does a guy that runs around all the time win the big game...if I am drafting a QB early in the draft I want a guy that can fit that mold. Pittsburgh was smart and grabbed a great pocket QB when presented with the opp. The Giants did the same with Eli Manning...VY is neither one of those QBs in his wildest dreams. The ability to win a Nat Championship in college does not always translate and many times does not translate to an NFL QB.
Get real folks.
Not sure why mine was the post you chose to put that stuff in a reply to, but since you did... ok, based on what you just said, I don't think you're viewing him reasonably, no. Pointing out a few non-mobile players who had success does not mean a mobile QB can't have success. You included Dilfer, a QB who had success because his team had a best-in-NFL-history-defense and not because he was a top NFL QB. I really can't believe that you would objectively think a QB must compare to Dilfer to become a good NFL QB, so that suggests to me that you tried to construct an argument to detract from Vince rather than observing the situation and making a judgement based on it.
I think Vince has more question marks than Matt Leinart especially in regards to experience with a pro style offense and reading defenses. But I really don't buy the mobile QB argument you wage, any more than I believe those who when they argue in favor of him, it seems like "because he won the big game" is at the heart of their arguments.
I was simply saying the last QBs to wint he SUper Bowl...in fact almost all the Super Bowl winners right down the line were all good pocket passers. Cunningham was perhaps the best mobile QB to play the game at one point never won a Super Bowl...Michael Vick who has better legs than an arm(although he can flick it 60-70 yds without much effort), he has not even won the Championship game yet...he did win in Green Bay during the playoff and was the 1st to do so.My point is Vince Young does not have any characteristics that would make him a championship QB at the next level. Mannin did, Roth did(obviously), Brady, and Young just does not stack up. I was not comparing him to Trent Dilfer and shame on you for taking 1 little snipet of what I wrote and blowing that up for your arguement, shame on you for doing that.
With Vick I understood...he had a terrific arm but was inaccurate a bit...and he ahs not improved in that dept much...but Vick has legs and a cannon. CPepp might fit that mold a bit too although his recent knee injury is going to force him to sit in the pocket more like it did with Trent Green.
Top 10 pick for a project QB that has little chance to take you to the Super Bowl...I just do not see that as a good investment for a team...let someone else teach this kkid for 5 years and than he will leave and be a FA.
