If you win money in a money league, do you have to tip the commish? (1 Viewer)

I, the commisioner started a tradition where I demanded the winner ouf our league takes out the commish & his wife for a nice dinner. Typically the 1st place winner gets $1800.00-$2000.00, Oh by the way this year I WON & will continue the tradition!
I like that, except my wife wouldn't want to hang with any of the geeks in my league. I'm bad enough. I make the Winner by pizza and beer at an end of season poker party. Winner only takes in $400-$450.

Back in the manual days our commish did not pay an entry fee to play. Now that we use a service the commish volunteered to pay the fee since the job has become much easier. Now a few times all the league members have chipped some bucks and got the commish a gift certificate to a restaurant.

...the commish works hard for you and every year has to deal with more bullsh*t than a rodeo clown.
Ain't that the truth!!!

Why are people upset that others may want to tip? I personally am in a league of friends and good guys, never would anyone think that cheating occured due to someone tipping the commish. I think that says more about the people complaining than it does the one tipping. My commish is a good friend of mine and does not need the money. I beleive he accepts the tips out of respect. I tip him out of respect to him and the work he does. I know it's not a lot of work but 10% of my winnings won't kill me when I just came into alot of money I didn't have hours before.

People who choose to tip do it because they want to, please don't bash or say "hell no". If you are a commish don't you at least appreciate the kindness someone has offered?

Personally I'm tipping the Commish and then plan on buying the beers while we are having our playoff draft.

nope, no tip. I'm commish of my league and would never expect/accept one. This is my 4th year being commish. As stated above, a simple thanks is enough. Tip isn't necessary.

EDIT: As many people said though, a beer or something like that isn't bad. If you can get the other guys in your league to chip in and get him a gift certifigate or something that's good too. I'd just shy away from a "tip" as a thank you.

I'm very surprised that people are staying so strongly that they wouldn't accept a tip.

What is the problem with it? Is it the feeling that you need to prove you are neutral? Or that someone may think you'd favor that team?

I think of it in the same was as if the guy won in AC or Vegas and is paying for the buffet breakfast the next morning or something akin to that. Gambling is gambling.

Do you dislike money or something? Downright unAmerican!

In the league I run it's all friends from college. We use the league as a way of staying touch. The money is really an afterthought but it's just enough to make it interesting.

I commish a couple of leagues and am in a few others. Thank all of them that did a good job and buy them a beer or something if you feel inclined. It should never be expected, but it is certainly a nice gesture.

wow lots of cheap ####ers on this board, very surprised actually. I always tip the commish if I win. Hell if I tip some random person that pulls me a 100 out of a tab jar, I sure as hell am tipping a guy I actually know, and most of the time has had to deal with some whinny owners.
