I am a little confused with San Diego. All they do is talk, talk, talk. Don't get me wrong I don't mind trash talking if these guys can back it up. BUT they never have.

Yesterday Shawne Merriman was acting like he didn't know Jabbar Gaffney in an interview. Hmmm you'd think he would remember Gaffney as he had 10 catches for 103yds and a TD last year when the Pats bounced SD from the playoffs.

Can't wait for kickoff :lmao:

Igor got has one of my favorite dead ball fouls ever. In a game against the Broncos the Donkeys went up to the line and spiked the ball. Then, AFTER the spike was well over one of the dirtbag OL dove at his knees. He gave Nalen (?) a smack to the top of the head like Conan walloping a camel. Sometimes football needs a little hockey in it to keep guys like Nalen honest.

Ive gotta say, the guy's got a GREAT football name. And has the look of the classic gladiator football player. The disrespect card he just played though is gonna haunt him for at least one offseason. Need to learn to button it up and give teams their due at times like this. He's a nobody facing an all-time team. Kick their butts first, then talk. That's the way it works.

When are people going to realize that talking trash to the Pats is basically like talking trash to Tiger Woods. Its just not a good idea.
As far as trash talking goes, that's pretty low on the scale. It's not even in the same ballpark, not even the same league, as Crayton or Anderson. Seriously, any time anyone says anything other than New England is the greatest doesn't make it trash talk. I was expecting something stupid, all this is is one sentence clipped out of an interview in the locker room. No idea if he was being dead pan, a jerk, messing with reporters, anything. Just one out of context little sentence and a half. Talk about grasping for something to label as "trash talk"

Was all over SportsCenter this morning. It wasn't good trash talk, but trash talk it was. Admittedly not as bad as some of the other things recently. Probably looks worse in conjunction with Merriman "not remembering" Jabar Gaffney's name.

No need to defend it here, ms. Although I do understand where youre coming from. Whether it was joking around, taken out of context, in jest, in all seriousness is really irrelevant. And I as a fan dont expect any of their players on that team or any other to be pretentious and needlessly praise NE they as players may genuinely hate the Patriots in a given moment, but you just have to be smarter than that and show more respect. This is a team that ended his team's season last year, and thumped his team earlier this year. And oh btw, a team that's yet to lose. Now's not the time to be the court jester when referring to the opposition. You respect and praise your opponent, and line up and try to smack them in the mouth all day on gameday. Laughing first is fun. Laughing last is what matters.

I agree this is low on the scale, not really trying to prove the was a high level of trash talking. I just wonder how can a team that has never won anything in the history of the franchise talk so much?

I agree to some degree. But what are they supposed to do? Be like Gibbs and say they need help from anyone with a plan? Or be confident in themselves? If Igor was really hamming it up Crayton stylee and talking real trash that's one thing. And it being on TMZ, I mean ESPN, doesn't make it legit. This is the same network that can't say Romo without mentioning Simpson and has yet to mention the two wins she attended prior to Thanksgiving. This reminds me of Jerramy Stevens and his "massive disprespect" of Bettis by haveing tha gall to say that he actually thought his team would win and therefore ruin Bettis' homecoming. Porter grabbed it and ran because he's a loudmouth twit that needs to be heard. It's just ridiculous that any statement a Charger (or any opponent) makes that in any way indicates that they think they can win is taken as "trash talk" or "bulletin board material". If the Chargers come out and say something stupid, I'll be the first to say that was stupid. But all he said was "they're thinking about it more than we are" which is conspicuously like what the Pats have been saying in their pressers when asked about perfection, or records or anything else. It's a non-story statement that just gets blown out or proportion and really means nothing other than he thinks they can win.

Say hi to Anthony Smith part duex.... enjoy getting run over Olshansky.
***Homer Alert***The difference is Igor is part of an excellenct D line, the Pats won't run on us, but they could very well pick us apart ala game #2 earlier in the year. If they decide to "pick" on Igor and run, it can only hurt them. Running between the tackles is not their strength. I don't like what Igor said, but I think the pats know that this was pretty petty on the disrespect scale. Either way, I hope the Chargers are stay mum and continue to prepare.BFS

The Chargers have nothing to lose and are playing at New England. The Patriots have the pressure of 19-0* on their shoulders. They are more worried about their place in history if they lose than the Chargers.

Wow, dissing Gaffney. I'm sure the Pats are going to rally around him since he's so key to their offense.

Really? I look at that clip and see something far worse than the Anthony Smith "guarantee". Smith was more or less baited into saying that he guaranteed the win. This guy is completely dismissive of the idea that the Patriots may be the better team. I dont think any talk will make either team play harder, but this is one of the dumbest things that I have seen a player say.Let me get this straight. The Pats go into San Diego and win in last years playoffs, beat them down in foxboro, go onto an undefeated regular season and this guy thinks that the Patriot players are privately saying that they will be lucky to get by the Chargers. Come on here.

I am all for any professional athlete thinking that his team can win a game, but if Olshansky's comment is indicative of what the general sentiment is among Chargers players (that they generally beleive that they are vastly superior to the Patriots), then I would find that troubling as a fan. Sometimes it seems as if this team beleives that it is entitled to a championship. I dont get it.

From a two sentence clip with no pretext or knowledge of what or how the reporter asked the preceding question, or any of the conversation prior, you can get all that from his answer?I doubt that anyone, including Igor, truly believes that NE is a pushover or less talented in any way. Especially because they beat them the last two times. And with their superstar and starting QB gimpy. I think it's sheer folly to actually believe that's what they think and shows a lack of critical thinking to take that from this clip.

Funny, it reminds me of the Mets players. They though they had already locked up a inviteto the Playoffs. Same thing happens here.

I have no idea, it was a quick clip with no preamble. Maybe he's not good at deadpan. I am not denying that it may have been taken out of context and that my dislike of the Chargers is probably influencing the way that I am interpreting this whole thing. They were talking about this on Mike & Mike this morning and they said something along the lines that Olshansky had been spoken to by Norv Turner about this incident. There was no claim that it had been taken out of context (though I wouldnt necesarily expect any of the Chargers to take time out from their schedule to do so)

What I am saying is that I beleive that this clip - taken at face value - is more insulting than the Anthony Smith interview where he basically went from saying that he thought the Steelers could win to guaranteeing a victory. I initially posted because I was surprised that it was seen as somehow less bothersome than the Smith quote. If the Patriots are really looking to find bulletin board material to get worked up about, then they will probably not be too concerned about the way the question was asked. If you disagree with that premise, that is ok with me.

Isn't every Charger fan *expecting* them to lose? Don't get me wrong, I'll be rooting like hell for them but I would be shocked by a win. The Chargers players can play loose since there are no expectations of them in the game. The Pats on the other hand have the threat of being completely embarrassed by not making the SB after their perfect regular season.

Pretty much. You could even tell by Norv Turner's reaction after beating the Titans. The pressure was really on for that game. The Charger organization and fan base was desperate for a playoff win. His "celebration" the next game against a much better Colts team and facing much worse odds was way more subdued.

My interpretation from his statement is that the Patriots are expected to win; the Chargers are not. No one thought the Chargers would get this far, so they are playing with house money. The Patriots have the pressure of knowing that they need to win the Super Bowl, or else they will be labeled huge choke artists. That is probably want he meant when he said they should worry.

He still should have kept his mouth shut, though.

That's a reasonable interpretation, but mine is simply that the Patriots aren't as good as the Chargers. The Patriots know it. Igor knows it.

You need a new interpreter see belowper game -

NE avg offense yds 412

SD avg offense yds 315

NE avg pass yds 296

SD avg pass yds 187

SD avg rush yds 127

NE avg rush yds 115

NE D avg rush yds 98

SD D avg rush yds 107

NE D avg pass yds 190

SD D avg pass yds 213

oh and the Pats scored 30 more offensive TDs than SD this year....

That's a reasonable interpretation, but mine is simply that the Patriots aren't as good as the Chargers. The Patriots know it. Igor knows it.

:no:Believe me. The Patriots know what's up.

they sure do....

I agree the statement was much ado over nothin, but still not a smart move, typically...THAT SAID ---

What the hell do they have to lose? SD is a mouthy team anyway, so why hold them back? I mean, how are any more chips on the shoulders of this "disrespected perfect" team are going to make any difference? I'm starting to think this may work and get in the Pats heads ...with SD having no pressure and all.
