"I'll call it now" - Preseason edition (1 Viewer)

chook

Footballguy
Rather than doing an "I'll call it now" thread for the whole season, I thought we could shy away from projections for a moment and focus solely on the preseason at hand. Who will impress/slump the most, what situations will change (depth charts, etc), who might unexpectedly get cut or traded DURING THE PRESEASON? It will be good to look at this in two months' time and see how many of these actually pan out.

Try to stay serious if you can (as in no "Peyton does his knee, Sorgi takes over and Marvin Harrison tells the media he sees himself setting career highs), and make it original from what others have already posted.

They don't all have to be world changing events. That way it will lead to more conversation about speculation raised and a few correct guesses.

I'll start off with something pretty basic...

Prediction: The Texans RB depth will be listed as Green, Gado, Walker. Ron Dayne doesn't make the team after a solid end to '06, even though Kubiak indicated a month ago that Dayne was well ahead of Lundy, Taylor and Gado on the depth chart.

Reason?: Green was bought in to be the starter, and should at least begin the season there. I like what Kubiak has had to say about Gado

"I'm impressed with what he's doing on the football field. He reminds me, I told him the other day, I had Mike Anderson in Denver that had a rough year one year and then all of a sudden came back in the offseason and it was like he was possessed the way he practiced and worked. It was like holy smokes. You watch the kid out here practice right now and his effort on the field is incredible. He plans on getting something done. I would be very surprised if he doesn't do it."
...and I think Darius Walker will really show them something after opting out of the Chicago contract to join Houston's crowded backfield, leaving the older Dayne out in the cold.

1) Brandon Jacobs will be injured by week 4 - why: he is recklass and throws his buddy around looking for the contact and runs upright.

2) Stovall = 2006 Cotchery - Opportunity is there, he's got the height, ethic and ability to do so.

3) Eli Manning will be top 7 - why.... he will need to throw, that team has got some issues - he also has toomer back and added smith in the draft.

4) Travis Wilson and Roydell Williams take over the #2 spot on their respective teams.

This might be the one with the smallest name attached:

Prediction:

Torrance "Tank" Daniels will win the starting SLB job with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Why:

He was a rookie last year, who made the practice squad & then got activated. He impressed in pre-season last year, and when he played. The other SLB options are not entrenched, and he has a nose for the ball.

Not sure how clear the first post is, but predictions weren't meant to be for the season, or next season, or about LenDale's career.

Just the next two months of preseason if we could please.

Perfect

By the end of '07, Fitz and Boldin will have switched places in the current dynasty rankings for WRs.

Building on the "Eli Manning will have a strong year" mention, I think Jeremy Shockey will reach 80 recs for the first time in his career.

The Redskins offense will be top five in both yards gained and points scored.
I admire the ballsy call here, but I'm just wondering how they might accomplish this feat? With no offensive draft picks until QB Jordan Palmer in round 6, they would need to come up with at least 6 more points per game from the same cast that didn't produce even a 60-rec receiver. Ladell Betts filled in quite admirably for Portis last season with 1154 yards rushing on 245 carries. In other words, the loss of Portis didn't hamper their running game. So where is the change going to come from?

Terrance Copper will be released and Robert Meachum will start the season on the sidelines for the Saints. Jamal Jones will emerge as the 4th.

Galloway will outscore Fitzgerald.
LOVE that one LHUCKS and I agree 100%Frank Gore will outscore Steven Jackson and LJ. Steve McNair will not make it through 2007 as the starter in Baltimore due to a really weak arm and Kyle Boller will play well enough to be a Hot QB FA in 2008.

The original post is too long. We will just call it based on the title of the thread.
God forbid reading a couple of paragraphs on an internet forum before posting in that thread!! #### me.
 Love it Chook.....great to see another Aussie on the boards too. Some good posts here, I think Platoons is on to something with his calls re: Stovall, Travis Wilson & Roydell Williams.

I'll make a call, DJ Shockley ends up as the No.2 in Atlanta before Week 1.

Harrington won't fit into Bobby Petrino's vertical offense as well as management had hoped and Shockley will become the No.2 after a couple of strong showings in pre season. The coach is saying all the right things now but once he sees Harrington on the field, Shockley will come into calculations as the No.2 in this offense.

I'll predict that more than 2 out of 35 subsequent posters understand the concept of preseason predictions. :goodposting:

What's the thought line here?
That he did it last year?
So does this mean you're predicting another injury? PPG Fitz outscored Galloway.Again... what's the thought process here? Fitz gets hurt again? Galloway, at age 36, performs like he did two seasons ago?
I'm not predicting anything. Just offering a possible explanation.

Preseason Predictions.

- Gore re-tears one of his reconstructed ACL's or bum shoulders and loses almost all of his value in dynasty leagues.

- Brandon Jacobs breaks 6 ribs and punctures a lung with his battering ram running style and Droughns ends up as a top 15 RB in 07'.

- LenDale pulls his hamstrings for the 10th time, fails a drug test, gains 20 lbs and the Titans give up and just cut him.

- Larry Johnson holds out until the last week of preseason and breaks his leg on his only preseason carry.

That's what i'm seeing in the 07' preseason, should be an interesting one.

Aaron Rodgers looks great in preseason, forcing many fantasy owners to send immediate trade offers to the Rodgers owner in their leagues as they try to still get him cheap.

By the end of the season, Matt Schaub will be a hot commodity either because (1) he lights it up fopr a stretch like Romo in 06 or (2) shows enough potential to move up into QB1 range in dynasty leagues. Why? The guys is talented. College completion percentage and college career starts are a good indicator of NFL success (see Football Outsiders). I believe that Schaub set the all-time record for completion percentage. He'll start slow, but Kubiak will get the team turned around and Schaub will start to look good.

By then dof the season, Ben Roethlisberger will be consitently rated as a QB1. He put up hall of fame numbers in his first two seasons. He has "it". The offense is now better suited to putting up fantasy points. He is hitting his prime.

DJ Hackett will be the most coveted Seahawks offensive player by the end of the season. He will be the #1. Alexander will slip a little. Hassleback will struggle a bit. But Hackett's youth will make him coveted.

Anyone that passed on Adrian Peterson with the #1 rookie pick will be kicking themselves. He'll stay heatlhy and begin to show that he is an elite talent.

The Rams will make the playoffs.

1. S-Jax will be a freak

2. The O-line is showing promise

3. Bennett and McMichael are solid offensive weapons who will only improve the offensive game, taking attention away from S-Jax

4. The D-line also is showing promise. Carikker will be a force, mark my words.

5. Special teams will improve (Dante Hall, better players on special teams in general)

Sep 9 Philadelphia 1:00pm

Sep 16 @N.Y. Giants 1:00pm

Sep 23 San Diego 1:00pm

Sep 30 @Minnesota 1:00pm

Oct 7 Chicago 8:15pm

Oct 14 Washington 1:00pm

Packers start the season 1-5 and Favre takes a terrible beating from the hands of the Chargers and the Bears D. By the bye week (7), Favre blames the front office for the lack of talent on offense and threatens to retire. Aaron Rodgers starts week 8.

As far as preseason predictions go....

1. The Vikings and Giants strike a trade, realizing they each have glaring weaknesses where the other has a strength. MIN sees that Peterson is ready to go and the Giants realize that Droughins/Jacons was never going to work. So they swap Chester Taylor for a 2nd round pick and Sinorice Moss.

2. The Titans IR Lendale White after he fails to practice even 1/2 the reps in camp. They would release him outright, but IR because of the "injuries". Vince Young realizes his Madden curse may be that he goes 0-16 with the lac k of weapos around him.

3. Laurence Maroney's shoulder injury flares up again and forces him to the PUP lost, bringing Corey Dillon out of retirement to run for NE.

4. The Green Bay Packers emerge quickly as a competent offensive unit, as Noah Herron and Morency create a serviceable pair. Greg Jennings' development quickens and the Pack give thanks the did not trade for Randy Moss.

5. Dominic Rhodes outperforms Lamont Jordan & Co. by leaps and bounds and is anointed the #1 back by Lane Kiffin after 3 PS games, leaving many to wonder is Lamont Jordan will be cut.

Try those on for size....
