I'm Going to the Army-Navy Game on Saturday! (1 Viewer)

My Dad, who is a Navy Vietnam Vet, has had the Army-Navy Game on his bucket list for as long as I can remember.  This year for Father's Day, my wife sprung and bought the tickets for me to take him.

That's all I wanted to say, really.  I'm just excited to be able to take my Dad to the game and I knew that of any group of folks might appreciate my excitement, it would be this place.

Wear an Air Force sweatshirt.

Nice!  No dog in the fight but always like watching this (mainly because it's usually the only sporting event on at the time, but I digress).

Seems like it would be fun to go to, and more enjoyable when it is snowing.

I knew this had been a thing for you for a while.  I'm glad your wife was able to make it happen for you!

I normally root for Navy, but I'll root a little harder this year for Papa Chaos!!

Yes, watch this  every year and enjoy the uniformed crowd always into the game.

Have a great time! My great-grandfather, who lived with us for the last few years of his life, was a New Hampshire farm boy who went to the Naval Academy. He wanted to go to West Point, but someone else got that congressional appointment and he was lucky enough to get the appointment to Annapolis (he finished second on the exam, but the kid who finished first couldn't pass the physical exam).

As soon as he graduated fron Navy, he resigned his commission and took a commission in the Army - which apparently they let you do back then. He spent his entire life in the Army and retired a colonel. Which meant that for decades, he was pretty much the only colonel in the entire Army who was a huge Navy fan when it came to the Army-Navy game.

Navy needs this one to avoid a 4-year losing streak.

Awesome story.  Thanks for sharing.

Just for @ClownCausedChaos2 and Papa Chaos:

Now colleges from sea to sea
May sing of colors true,
But who has better right than we
To hoist a symbol hue:
For sailors brave in battle fair
Since fighting days of old,
Have proved the sailor’s right to wear
The Navy Blue & Gold.

So hoist our colors, hoist them high,
And vow allegiance true,
So long as sunset gilds the sky
Above the ocean blue,
Unlowered shall those colors be
Whatever fate they meet,
So glorious in victory,
Triumphant in defeat.

Four years together by the Bay,
Where Severn joins the tide,
Then by the Service called away,
We’re scattered far and wide;
But still when two or three shall meet,
And old tales be retold,
From low to highest in the Fleet,
We’ll pledge the Blue and Gold

As someone who has family with experience with this game its a ##### weather wise especially when it was at the vet. It really depends on the weather though. I just wish they'd leave it in Philly because all the years I can go they end up in Baltimore

What an absolutely fantastic day.  The only thing that stunk was that we missed the Midshipmen marching onto the field, because we got stuck behind an accident on the way to the stadium.  We found our seats just as the cadets were in the middle of their march.  I looked over at my Dad and his eyes were misty.  He was just looking around at everything in awe.  I patted him on the shoulder and said, "This is the Army-Navy game."  He never stopped looking around.  He just nodded and said, "This is magical."

Man, you had fantastic seats. That you got to share this with your dad is awesome.
