I'm stashing Mewelde Moore on my roster (1 Viewer)

I'm an admitted Moore fan and long thought he would be a stud RB1 but the opportunity never came. I thought the time for that opportunity had passed and that he had really slowed down over the past few years.

...but he seems to have found a fountain of youth and he's playing as well as he has since his early days in Minnesota and he could become fantasy relevant again if this keeps up. I just watched the replay of the Steelers/Patriots game and Moore had a 16 yard run near the end of the first half that was just ridiculous. If anyone's got that TIVOd check out the move he put on Devin McCourtey.

Small sample set, but the numbers don't lie. Moore has 19 touches on the season for 175 yards and he's averaging 6.5 ypc and 15.0 ypr. Moore has a total of 6 receptions on the season and 3 went for >20 yards. That is utterly ridiculous for a RB. To put that in perspective, Sproles has only 2 receptions >20 yds on the season and Forte and Ray Rice both have a total of 5 >20 yds.

Moore has 13 carries and 4 of them have gone for >9 yds. Moore caught 1 pass this preseason and it went for 23 yards.

These are ridiculous numbers for someone seeing 2-3 touches per game. We've seen this bizarre scenario before with Moore but the tape doesn't lie. In a 12 team league where I'm in RB hell (Charles, Hightower, McGahee, Graham, Tate and used a waiver claim on Ronnie Brown) I'm stashing Moore on my roster this week. We'll see if this pans out over the coming weeks, but if the Steelers gave Moore 10-15 touches and spread out the defense with their young receivers the Steelers offense would be fantasy gold.

I've had Moore rostered off and on for the few years , and he never gets enough touches/game to be worth a spot. Good luck to you.

This is where the problem is. The reason Moore gets the numbers he gets is partially due to the infrequency of his touches. He gets carries in non-run situations (2nd/3rd and long-draws, etc). He usually gets underneath passes when they need long yardage, so the D is playing soft. There aren't 10-15 of those situations every game, so he wouldn't produce at the same level with 10-15 touches/game.

Agreed. Moore is great on passing downs but no way you can project that 6.5 ypc over 15-20 carries. He was decent in the few starts he's had but the Steelers consider him a role player. He is stuck behind Mendenhall and Redman on the depth chart and in the unlikely event that both of them would go down then Jonathan Dwyer would likely start and Mewelde would be the 3rd down and change-of-pace back.Bottom line is this: Unless you have a very deep league Mewelde Moore's fantasy value is pretty low.

:goodposting: That is one of the main reasons you can't simply look at YPC or even YPT stats as far as a comparison between and early down/short yardage back and a 3rd down RB are concerned.

As a follow up, look at M. Moore's stats the two season he actually had over 100 carries. In those two seasons his YPC are much lower.

This "fountain of youth" the OP speaks of is directly related to the fact that the Steelers are limiting his touches - and letting the real young gun (Mendy) eat up the hits and tough yards.

Frankly, I don't care if an RB is rushing at 6.5 YPC - especially if his carries are coming on 3rd and 8. What matters is total production. Moore is averaging just under 3 total touches per game - and that is by design. Incidentally, I think the Steelers are doing a great job of rotating their RBs in order to keep them all fresh and effective. ("Great job" from and NFL standpoint - not FF)

Not only is it a difference of down and distance, but when Moore comes in the game on 3rd and long or in passing situations, it's also a function of defensive personell on the field - he's facing a lot more 5 and 6 DB formations than Mendenhall or even Redman on 1st and 10 or 3rd and 1 or 2nd and goal from the 2.

There is a huge difference between extrapolating a starter's carries over an entire season (which is flawed in its own right) - and extrapolating a role-players situation-specific stats out to a normal usage RB. There are WAY too many variables (most already addressed in this thread) to make it even close to valid.

I have always been an advocate of Moore getting a legit shot as a starter, but it didn't seem to ever really happen. In 15 games with 15 or more touches, he's averaged 121 yards from scrimmage and scored 7 TD. If he ends up getting a bigger workload somehow, he has shown he can handle it and do well.

:goodposting: But pretty odd for a guy who has 6 lifetime postings, to be up at 4:45 AM breaking down tape on Mewelde Moore. :stalker:

Longtime member, mostly lurker. Couldn't sleep. But I think many here missed my point. No Moore isn't going to have dynasty value and no 3rd and long situations do not account for a ridiculous percentage of big plays so far (8 carries 62 yds on 1st down). Obviously the ypc/ypr would not hold up over time, I'm simply noting that those numbers match what I'm seeing when he gets touches. If Moore keeps playing like this, it seems hard to believe that he wouldn't creep up towards 10 touches per game making him very fantasy relevant and giving the Steelers the perfect versatile, pass catching back that would make the Steelers no huddle offense really hard to defend. I have a hunch Moore will be fantasy relevant within a few weeks.

Forgot to mention that Moore averaged 4.72 ypc and 4.4 receptions in those 15+ touch games . . .

Blame Mike TiceHe shelved the kids career before it started. I don't recall the exact details, other than being baffled that Moore was being benched after setting the 3 game all-purpose yardage record his first year.

Maybe fredjax is forcing some eyes open on guys that are just good football players instead of perfectly groomed prototypes.
