Indefinite New York Jets Official thread - **2025 season** - The indefinite rebuild continues (1 Viewer)

Unfortunately I think it will have to be Rodgers again if only because they’re too low down to get one of the rookie QBs and the free agency QB market looks pretty barren (and competitive).
Id leave it completely to the new coach/GM - if they want to run it back fine but no more appeasing Rodgers. All his buddies gone, sign and draft whoever they want - hes a player - old/overpaid at that that should have zero influence.

Im hoping they are just making the rounds until the season ends and they can finally talk to actual candidates.

Vrabel is officially allowed to interview - thats one candidate im ok bringing in before a GM though pretty sure they already interviewed the GM Vrabel was with in Tenn.

Its honestly just impossible to care at this point. It really is.

Either the team was ALWAYS cursed due to a Namath deal with the devil or this year was just Karma for bringing in conspiracy theory Rodgers.....but its just never gonna happen. They landed a top 10 WR, top 5 CB (prior to this year), top 5 RB (prior to this year) and a pro-bowl pass rusher in the same draft(while they already had multiple other pro-bowl caliber players on the roster) ....and somehow are gonna go like 4-13 in their 3rd year.

watching real football on Mon pm - its like they are playing another sport than the Jets. Creativity from 2 great coaches - crazy

BTW can we stop the Aaron glen love - every time I watch his D ina big game they get lit up.

Well it finally happened - complete give up mail it in performance. No one looked interested. Its amazing it took this long. Rodgers and others just look like they want out

What an awful season - there have been many but not this bad I can remember.

Going to be many different directions they can go - run it back with Rodgers/Adams or just rip it down to the studs. Only must keep players IMO are Olu, Tipman and GW - Id listen to anyone else.

I think the last 2 seasons have been the worst that I can remember in quite a while due to we should have known better false expectations.

Last year, Rodgers gets hurt 4 plays into the game. Talk about things going south quickly.

Then this year was even worse for what transpired with him actually on the field.

JD killed the defensive line and kept running out crap at safety.

We actually got worse after firing Saleh which seemed almost impossible at the time. Ulbrich was in way over his head. Today that dope was saying that Reddick was the most unself player he's ever been around. Lol. Plus he defended Clemons. He obviously learned his craft from master car salesman bs artist Saleh.

Rodgers looked bad to awful for most of the season. This turd actually kept blaming everyone else no matter how bad his throws were. Look at that throw to Yeboah. Omg and he yelled at Yeboah. Then he alienated WIlson. Again, throwing balls into the dirt, but blaming WIlson for not knowing how to read his mind. Then force-feeding Adams for his 500th td even if Wilson was open. Wilson is open on almost every play, but instead Rodgers throws to the human drop machine Lazard. Get this cancerous a-hole off the team. At first he represented hope since we haven't had a competent QB in forever. Now I can't wait to give him the boot. Just a fraud and terrible leader who tries to come off as a good one.

Sauce is another fraud. Get him off the team, too. Refuses to tackle. Holds constantly. Never thinks it's his fault. Please no one compare him to Revis. Trade him if he has any value.

Boot Clemons into the sun, too. Another me player who is always doing dumb things and is a below average player.

Not sure who was the biggest thief this year: Rodgers, Reddick, or Tyron Smith. It's bad enough having one of them. We had several.

Not much hope on the horizon either. We still have Woody running things into the ground. Why would any good GM/Coach want to work for him and this environment. sigh.

We’re awful and I don’t see it turning around anytime soon. That’s all I’ve got for you. There’s a billion reasons why, and they all start at the top and were inherited.

agree their entire organization is trash and definitely won’t turn it around anytime soon. At best 5 years and realistically it’s 10 years

Vrabel in the building today - Id prefer an experienced winning offensive coach but doesnt seem to be many out there. Vrabel would be one of the few defensive coaches Id be happy with. Experienced, playoff wins, built a team, won with a lesser QB, doesnt take any BS - would go a long way towards crawling to respectability. The fact that he even took the meeting is a positive - Id have no problem locking him up by Monday if he'll take the job.

Ron Rivera and Rex Ryan?

Ignoring the fact that they’re doing it backwards again and should be signing a GM first but do you even want to be a serious franchise?
Didn't get a chance to respond to this day of, but I went on several rants the last few days to friends about the Fugazi semantical "reporting" of ESPN.

It sounded this entire time like it's just been Rex trying to talk himself into an interview for the job, using his platform on the Mouse, and Mouse radio where they have a habit of regurgitating the same garbage coverage from the same people all day long. So of course they were parading Rexy around the radio to politick for the job. And then, what's the ACTUAL quote that this larger scale "ESPN reporting" went off of?

Something to the effect of a radio host asking Rex if he is going to interview for the Jets job and him replying "I believe so."

And just like that, ESPN then reports on their website and across their news scroll "Jets to interview Rex Ryan for HC job" and all the other media outlets run with it. ESPN literally can't help but try to talk up their own personalities for every single hiring cycle. Louis Riddick's name has been brought up for a GM spot prob more times than Eric Bienemy for an HC, literally due to ESPN trying to speak it into existence. MAYBE HE JUST ISN'T A REAL GM CANDIDATE??????

I didn't then, nor do I currently think Rex gets an interview. And I truly believe if he does, it's because Tanny is placating him and doing his buddy/the mouse a solid. As dumb as Johnson is, and as poorly run as this organization is, does anyone truly believe they would give serious consideration to a guy that has been out of coaching for nearly a decade and [to my knowledge] hasn't even gotten a DC interview? I think the only player left in the league that he's coached is Geno lol

I used to be a romantic, wanting the first time boy wonder OC to pair with the new genius GM so they could draft a top young QB and move forward as the royal triumvirate we've always desired.

Now I just want someone that will literally punt Woody out of his own building. Gimme Vrabel, Gruden or Flores for that tier.

I usually am not one to beat a dead horse, but truly thankful that the combination of massive arrogance without caring about his teammates has been recognized as the case with Mr. Rodgers.

Unfortunately I do believe it based on Woody’s infatuation with “splash” moves.

I don’t think he’ll be hired but I do think he’s getting an interview. Why not throw some newspaper into the dumpster fire?

Woody does love his back page splashes! Vrabel would be a no brainer home run under the circumstances so if somehow he is interested I cant see Woody screwing that up - the guy is 77 and knows hes a laughingstock.....if dolan can see the light than why not Woody

I'm playing fantasy football right now but a combo of Flores+Josh McCown and a trade for JJ McCarthy would be my home run offseason in this current reactionary moment.

So the social media Jets sites have a lot of fans begging to draft Skattebo.
Leave it to Jets fans to want the guy at the only position where the team is stacked.

Jets picking seventh per Tankathon. Best we could have done with a loss yesterday was apparently sixth according to the SOS they go by.

The cupboard is a bit barren. Trade down unless you see a dominant OL or WR still on the board.

We already need to replace the big four from Joe D’s big draft in 2022 (Sauce, Wilson, Jermaine, Breece, Ruckert, Mitchell, Clemons). We had all those picks stockpiled and when we used them we did nothing with them. What a shame.

Yeah, for once a meaningful win didn't really cost much like Zach/Trevor did.

I'm not up on the draft yet, but is it even deep enough to get any kind of value by trading down from 7? They're probably just going to be stuck with BPA there.

Abdul Carter DE - Penn State is a stud
There's a couple OL that should be there too.

Yep. I've had this conversation with people a few times "How can you wanna trade X? We finally hit on someone" etc.

Well, it's nice to "hit" on a player (for once), but once that cheap rookie contract is up, it's hardly even a hit anymore with the way this salary cap goes. If you're gonna spend the money, those guys become 'somewhat' replaceable with other good free agents - and that's why to me, trade anything you can that isn't nailed down. Need to reset the core from a contractual perspective because the window to win while these guys are still cheap is now CLOSED. (just watched this happen with the Rangers and their goalie, who now makes the most for the position in league history despite the fact the team in front of him sucks)

I love Wilson and Hall but have to agree.

Lets face it, this team is not going to win next season. It's looking very possible, based on draft slot, that next season (assuming Rodger's retires :fingers crossed:) is going to be a stop gap QB (Tyrod Taylor or another veteran) while hoping Travis Jordan shows something and perhaps adding a mid-round QB to throw into the mix.

2027 is likely the first year they could legitimately compete - assuming they somehow find that long elusive franchise QB. Those players would be gone in free agency by then anyway.

Of course hiring a GM and HC (in that order idiot Woody) is the first step in deciding what direction the team takes going forward. Interviewing slugs like Rivera and Ryan does bot instill confidence that they will get that right.

Actually interviewing HCs at all before they hire a GM shows they WILL NOT most likely get this right.

This highlights what I said to a friend when they were first acquiring Rodgers. This is going to end up setting the franchise back 5 years unless they just play the year to year stopgap game with the core that's currently there.

Kind of tiring to have a ? at QB going into literally every single year since probably Sanchez's second season. I'd like to see a full bottoming out this season (while somehow making the new coaching staff look somewhat competent?) so we have a shot at what looks like a much better QB class in 2026. I'll say this, the fact that we got a full season out of Rodgers and managed to maintain a top 10 draft pick is the silver lining here. Just wish this class was last year's class with regards to QB depth.

I was hoping the Rivera interview was to meet the Rooney Rule requirements so they COULD have theoretically hired Vrabel on the spot thereafter. I truly in my heart of hearts believe that Rex is just being interviewed as an internal favor from Woody and Mr. T. But yes, for sure, asinine to be attempting to hire the coach first unless you were going to go the Gruden route.

Imagine trying to hire a GM after they hire Rex Ryan? Who is going to take the job then?

Mike F'n Tannenbaum. WE'RE GETTIN THE BAND BACK TOGETHER BOYS!!!!!

i already don’t trust this search. what GM will take the job with a HC possibly already hired? the jets have this thing where the GM and HC both individually report to woody and then things always go sideways. this is the main reason IMO this franchise is in the crapper. let the GM hire the coach, period. having them both have the same authority creates in fighting and turmoil.

Few post mortem thoughts -

Wish I had the stones to bet a few thousand on the Jets winning that meaningless game - stone cold lock! At least it only cost them 1 spot unlike the Pats

Arod - didnt look like a guy who played his last game - he strikes me as a guy who wants the full ego retirement tour. I could live with 1 more year as long as new regime signs off on it and he has zero influence. His numbers were good on paper but failed to deliver in big moments as in past. He also couldnt overcome collapse of the D and awful coaching. Im indifferent at this point

Vrabel - looks like the Jets were played as usual - I expect Vrabel to be the new coach within a week in NE

Rex - Im torn on him - clown show aside he was the best coach the had since Parcells - the guy is a leader and knows defense. IF and thats a big IF he could contain the sideshow stuff and be paired with a real OC then its not the worst idea in the world. At least it would be interesting

GM - looks like Jets are the only GM job out there- should definitely help get a solid candidate

Other coaches - Ill conceded Aaron Glenn helped his cause yesterday - shutting down with Minny O was impressive - Sam looked like he was seeing ghosts again!

Im reading in some places that Shanny in SF may be on the outs - if that happens they need to run and bring him in ASAP - would be my top coach to get. Just cant imagine SF letting him go

Interested in seeing the candidates and if they'll wait on some of the playoff coaches.

Woodys comments about winning that last game is all that matters and babbling about prime time games is literally cringy. Hes getting worse and worse.

Draft pick #7 is a decent spot - Id focus on best prospect available out of OL, WR, DT or pass rush - looking at the mocks and rankings there should be more than a few good ones available. Id love to see Mason Graham paired with Q - should instantly upgrade the run D and interior pass rush. However Will Johnson across from Sauce would look very nice replacing Reed; Carter/Williams look like great pass rushers and Will Campbell as a book end for Olu would put that OL in the top of the league; and monster McMillan an awesome big target across from GW. At least one of those should be available with the 2 QBs and Travis locked into top 3. We'll have a few months to debate!

this is a non qb draft and i’ve already seen whispers that ward and sanders are way overvalued. as always, the jets need help all over, so trading down for additional cap should be the plan…..especially since this team never hits big. the d line was a complete sieve. they desperately need D help, which is amazing. quinnen williams made zero impact this year and will be 28 soon. the LB core is terrible. reed will be gone and the safety play has always been suspect. at least they won’t waste premium picks on the o line finally.

this team can’t compete next year, eat the rodgers cap hit in 2025 and start figuring out 2026. i also have a feeling that 1 of wilson, hall and gardner will be gone in the offseason. gardner looks like revis, when he was 32.
