Indefinite New York Jets Official thread - **2025 season** - The indefinite rebuild continues (3 Viewers)

every time there is a reset i, as a life long jet fan, immediately think that anything has to be better than the status quo and nothing can be worse. yet, idzik was a joke, mccagnan stunk and somehow douglas was worse than both of them. i mean, it seemed impossible they could hire a coach worse than gase, but saleh came along. what i’m saying is again is nothing can be worse than jd/saleh but i just know the jets will make it happen somehow.
There's a reason why the Broncos paid Sean Payton 18M a year. A dude like that can turn things around quickly.

I'm not saying the Broncos are Super Bowl contenders, but they look like a legitimate team with a chance to win every Sunday.

Is it a money thing? Does Jets ownership do things on the cheap? Or do they just pick the wrong guys? (or both)

Is part of it also that the Giants are terrible? If the "other team in town" were kicking *** would the Jets be 'pressured' into doing things differently?
None of this. They have an incompetent owner who will happily spend money whenever and wherever necessary, but has an almost 0% hit rate on GM/coaching hires. And then he gets antsy and starts meddling to varying degrees as has just really come to the forefront most recently.

Every time they have to burn it to the ground and rebuild, its been a matter of praying they finally run into one and find the right 'football guy' but none of em can ever pick a coach or a QB it seems.

100% - Woody is not an awful owner like the Wilpons were - refusing to spend money - its he can't make good hires and then when things are not going well cant resist jumping in. Problem is any experienced GM/HC with a degree of success is likely going to steer clear of this mess so no choice but to get 2d tier choices and pray.

Lots of speculation over the bye on Rodgers - whether they bench him or release him - I dont see that happening unless Woody has finally wised to the benefits of tanking - I mean taking a look at other players down the stretch. The Giants are doing it right and will benefit with a top 3 pick - Jets always seem to win a few meaningless games and brag that it helps the culture - it doesnt.

Last few games - Seattle, Fins, Jags, Rams, Bills, Fins.

I can see them beating the Jags and maybe the Rams which would likely drop them into 10 and over pick. Im back to rooting for losses at this point. Might as well bottom out.

so the jest have again hired a consulting firm, 33rd team, to conduct the GM search. last 2 times woody hired a firm we wound up with idzik and mccagnan. obviously, woody has no nfl friends nor knowledge and has no idea how to interview for the most vital football roles. ugh

These "search firms" usually end up giving the job to someone connected with them. If you want hope these guys helped the Commanders last season and they have turned it around nicely - of course its mostly due to their stud rookie QB - doubt the Jets will get someone on the level .

I also find it interesting that Woody hires a search firm led by the guy he fired previously! If he has a short memory as to Tanny can Rex be far behind???

apathy has set in - tough watching these games as I find myself more interested in other games. Not much matters - we are not developing a QB and have a good idea on the young talent. Only interest for me at this point is draft position and im ok with losing out.

Cimini is quoted that Vrabel is interested - Id still rather have an offensive coach but if they are going D he'd be on my short list.

watched Red zone pretty much the entire day on Sunday. Just no investment in this team. Even up 21-7...once they threw the pick 6, I knew they were gonna lose. And at this point, I'm glad they did.

Sure would be nice if Breece hadn't fumbled away a near must-win Fantasy game for me though. Lost by 2 yards. :wall:

On the bright side....it actually does look like there wont be any holes to fill on the O-line. Olu has been REALLY solid once he got plugged in at LT. Takes away the sting of Bowers probably being like the 2nd best TE in the league already.

fashanu, tippmann and alijah IR tucker are solid pieces. now we need a qb, coach, gm, owner, some LBs, interior DL, TE and a 2nd round WR we drafted that can be cut and pumping gas.

Who would have thought playing Olu at his natural position would be a good thing! Who knows even tho Smith was washed he may have been a good mentor for Olu. Regardless at least they have a Center and LT locked in.

They are 1 win away from a few teams form getting the top pick believe it or not. Pats and Panthers should have won and have potential to win a few down stretch. Not sure if that last game was the Raiders all in game but they looked solid enough to win one or two. Giants tanking hard like the smart franchise they are...Jax a mess but they play the Jets so who knows!

Id say bench Rodgers to tank but Tyrod actually may do better - also I forgot tyrod is signed for next year for cheap - may not be an awful idea to give him a game or 2 down the stretch to see if he can be a bridge QB next year or 2 or if they have to draft a QB in the 1st - doesnt seem to be a loaded QB draft like last yr

I think he is the bridge QB next year. Him, Jordan and a rookie.

Actually a decent tank game. Some of the youngsters played well and they blew it at the end as they should with this awful defense! As soon as DA went out of bounds on that catch and saved the clock for the Fins I knew it was over - why go sidelines? The kicker was hot and they only needed a few yds. Losers find a way to lose I guess

Few thoughts

QB: Rodgers best game but doubt its enough to keep him with all the drama. 3,000 yds and 20TDs/8 Ints - one of the better season for Jets QBs in history and still bottom dweller - mind boggling.

OL - Line was not bad - Olu/Tipman prety solid base to build an OL. Maybe bring AVT back on a cheap deal as I doubt any team breaks the bank on him with his history

RB: The kids looked good - great return for 4th and 5th rd picks - say what you want about JD and he had to go with that record but he was one of the better drafters in Jet history. With BA and Isiah looking more than adequate and Breece only one more yr on his rookie deal - gotta wonder if the new regime entertains trading him.

WR - Id be ok trading Breece but Wilson is a keeper. Adams had a solid game - Lazard back but Id rather Corley get the reps in this lost season.

Def - Awful - Sherwood was a beast and the rest laid down. Everyone thinks the Jets are 1 QB away to add to an elite defense and it collapses. Looks like the d was more of a Saleh scheme than thought. Still would have fired him but the timing certainly looks awful. Interim coach is awful - he'll be lucky to get a DC position after this mess.

Draft - curently holding 7th but if they lose out decent chance of top 3. Vegas/Giants will be 1/2 and winless down stretch but Tenn, Car and Cleve should win at least one down stretch - Jax this week is the prime tank game. If Jets find a way to lose that one I think they end up 3rd - of course in a 2 QB draft lol. If they win looking at 9-10 with upside as some teams play each other so as long as win only 1 it should be a top 10 pick.

Finally saw Reddick make a half play yesterday before he blended in as usual

Curious as to what kind of contract he'll get next year - I think he completely tanked his value. What team is going to give a multi year deal to a 31 yr old who barely played and when he did looked old and slow? Terrible decisions by Reddick - JD already paid the price for the dumb trade. Team traded 3rd rders like candy

This week’s game will be tough to lose. I’m nervous.
Ill be rooting for the tank at this point but I just cant imagine an Aaron Rodgers led team losing to Mac Jones and the awful Jags. It would be truly horrific.

With Cincy winning they would only drop 2 spots with a win (assuming the rest lose) - with 3 games left against some tough teams: Bills, Rams, Fins - I would think they will likely go 1-3 but who knows at this point. Never thought id be looking at draft spots in early December.....

Yeah, I don't think it's possible to lose this game, even on the road - but this staff just may find a way.

Man that was hard to watch - Gastineau wa a big part of my youth. Sack exchange - the dance - the good ol days. Sure he turned into a strange dude, left the team at his peak and has obvious health/mental issues but he was a beast in the day.

I always thought that the Favre/Strahan "sack" was bs but havent thought much about it. Favre's statement - doubtful he wrote it but give credit for releasing it - was a rare honest recanting that I wasnt expecting. That record probably was a big deal to Gastineau as to income and pride. Tough to lose it on a choreographed tank play.

Either way it was tough to watch 2 of the greats obviously physically and mentally aged with difficulties. This sport is tough and players deserve to make the $ while they are able.

Being the only outspoken Jets fan in many friend groups Ive recd this in 4 separate text chains already....we get it. our team stinks and is a laughingstock! lol

Ha, I just got it in a text chain today also.

Same - hilarity ensued.

They’ve played almost everybody close all year. They’ll win two. You can almost set yr clock to it. Or if they win one, nobody else will win and they’ll be stuck with Rodgers or Tyrod. Oof.

Jets never "tank" well - they always find a way to win a few meaningless games down the stretch. Now I dont blame the coaches or players for it - but to act like winning is good for the culture or next year is ridiculous. Never has an impact.

Paging Fariq

Forgive me if this is misplaced, but after 5 minutes of 30 4 30 NY Sack Exchange, all I can think is, "these guys are all head cases, these guys are all pissing it away, no wonder the Jets have arrived here."

Yeah, remember the folks who were doing backflips over that "incredible" week 18 win last year? How great was it how we ended bill's career and improved the culture?

Well the culture is worse than ever, we lost a shot at joe alt (although olu looks acceptable) and Bill is in chappel hill nailing a 24 year old.

Yeah, but the culture......

What is up with Sauce? He looked absolutely elite right out of the gate after being drafted and this year seems just ordinary.

Distracted by a budding golf obsession.

Started getting called for some holds.

A few minor injuries.

Loss of confidence due to his horrible tackling.

Generally mentally beaten down due to all the losing.

A combination of all this I'm guessing. Dude certainly cost himself some money. Another year like the first 2 ans he probably gets a top of the market extension this summer. Can't do that now. Pick up his 5th year and make him prove this season was a fluke

You could have etched this one in stone, they win when you want them to lose and vice a versa always the case. Sitting at 8th in tankathon right now, don't think they will win another game but you never know with this team. Unless they are ready to take on a project QB in the draft, which seems unlikely, they might just go BPA and just hope to add quality pieces. It's not a complete tear down but they have to luck into a GM and Coach combo.

Huge culture building win as expected!

If there was a qb in this draft worth drafting in the top 5, I'd be pissed. But there probably isn't.

And even if there was and the Jets got him, they'd mess it up somehow
I hear you but bottom line is that higher picks are more valuable than lower ones. Definitely more valuable than a meaningless win at the last minute vs one of the worst teams in the league. If they beat Buffalo then I could see some value in it.

We dont even know who would be making the pick or developing so cant say its hopeless on that end yet - but higher picks entice better GM/coaches.
