good stuff -Like Vrabel but they absolutely can not hire yet another defensive minded coach.....must go offense for onceSuch a disappointing season. This whole mess with Rodgers basically running the team is a disaster. At this point I just want to get rid of all the GB has beens and start over again next year. Need to get a smart coach with some experience that doesn’t take any crap from his players. Mike Vrabel come to mind.
I doubt it would shock anyone to see the Jets go on a mini run and have to win a final regular season game to get the last wild card spot just to get smacked down in that game. I’m almost expecting it as that would be the most Jetsy thing that could happen
My metric to assess coaches/teams over a period is Conference Championship apearances. Not perfect by any means, but at that stage you're playing other elite teams and a single bounce can sometimes decide those games. If you're getting to that stage with any regularity you're doing a good job.
In the 2010s defensive coaches were actually dominating, especially with Super Bowl appearances and wins. You had Belichick, Carroll, Tomlin, Fox, Coughlin, Quinn... It was a decade of defensive coach dominance.
Things have changed now. No defensive coach has even appeared in an Conference Championship since 2020. Since 2019, you've had 2 total appearances (and losses) with Vrabel and McDermott. 2018 was the last time a defensive coach won a Conference Championship, Belichick's last Super Bowl. Offensive continuity has just become a lot more important than the fact that defensive coaches typically have more well rounded teams.
Not to mention all of the top defensive head coaches you listed had a top QB/offensive staff they assembled to develop QBs. Zero chance the Jets can hire a HC AND a top offensive staff to develop yet another young QB.
