Crazy idea, but with all of this draft capital, I wonder if they can tempt HOU into trading Stroud.
Ive read they may not draft a QB this year and the 3 1st rders are for the better 2027 QB class. I could live with that and use the draft capital to add a #2 stud WR to go with GW and shore up the interior OL. Only concern is if AG has another awful year he may not survive it.
I wouldnt mind trading for an established young QB with some of the capital - not sure i love Stroud at what it would cost to get him. Maybe Mac Jones could be had for a 2d or 3rd to take a swing. Id love to find a young franchise QB while keeping all those 1srs to shore up other positions. If not draft one
I'd be on board with making a modest trade for Mac Jones to be a bridge QB next year and then waiting for the right time to draft the next QB. As you said, use your draft capital to build the offense around the QB. This is more along the lines of the Detroit blueprint Glenn loves to talk about. That way when they do actually bring in the guy it is in an offense built for them to succeed in, not one with a turnstile OL or sorely lacking weapons.
I don't see a QB like Stroud getting pried loose without it being a massive overpay and then that defeats the purpose. Please no to Kylar Murray, that's not the way to go. I've heard people mention Burrow's name on X and I just have to laugh. When was the last time a franchise QB in his prime was dealt? The Jets would have to trade their next 3 drafts and that still might not get it done. Here's my answer to the possibility of that ever happening:
Same page - Mac Jones reminds me of Goff (not as accomplished of course) - but hes young - has shown he can play and lead. 1st rd pedigree. Would probably only take a 2d at best for him and hes cost controlled for another year - probably would agree to a modest extension. Fields can be backup with his last yr of contract.
2026 draft upgrade the O around them - Maybe take a rookie flyer in the 4th rd. Fill the holes in the Def through Fa and trades like hes been doing. If Mac looks legit then jackpot - they can use their 3 1sts to upgrade the team to playoff contender in 2027. If he whiffs then they have the ammo to land a high 1st rd QB.
If thats the plan Woody has to give the new regime at least 3 years - I can live with it as long as there is a plan and we see improvement even if not in wins.
