Got an inside scoop on the leanings of Adrian Peterson turning pro in 2007?

Is his family well off or in need? Do Oklahoma players typically stay four years or is there mass exodus to the NFL? Are there rumblings coming from out West in the form of campus gossip, sportswriters' knowledge, or player agents' activity?

I think everyone feels this guy is going to be a monster. Myself, I may try to aquire a couple of extra first rounders for 2007 as the lure of the NFL to a supremely talented guy like Peterson must be close in force to the gravitational pull of a black hole.

M. Lynch is another junior a lot of guys are raving about. Speculation? Do you know his Uncle?

:P

Can't think of any other super stud juniors that would be no brainer rookie RB picks but if you can think of a guy and reasons/evidence he might come out, please share.

If Peterson stays healthy in 2006 he will almost certainly depart. He's the next coming of Eric Dickerson and I'd like to have him long-term over any of the RBs coming out this year (yes including Bush).

Peterson will most likely depart barring a major injury (and even then, you may have another McGahee situaiton on your hands). If he wins the heisman, I would think the chances of him leaving are as close to 100% as you will get.

IMO, if you were ever going to preemptively trade for picks to get a player, it would be this guy.

I'm a big fan of Marshawn Lynch who I have on my college roster. He's the total package with good weight for height (215 lbs at 5'11"), speed (I'd bet he's in the 4.45 range), quickness/cutting ability, vision and a good leader. And he's a pretty good receiver. I'd rank him up there with Adrian Peterson, but he just get's less hype.

I'm at six 2007 first round picks and counting in a twelve team Dynasty.

He is the primary reason for the madness.

Peterson has been a target of mine since his Fr. year. Brady Quinn has to have some sort of consideration. Statistically he was a stud w/ one less game and avg. talent on offense compared to the other 2. I wouldn't want anyone else to guide my career, looking forward to the NFL, than Charlie Weis!! I'm a Buckeye fan and loved seeing us beat up on them in the Fiesta Bowl but i look for Quinn to post BIG numbers once again. Injury free he'll be top 3. Ohhh..... AND HIS SISTER DATES AJ HAWK!!!!!!!!!!! HAHAHAHA..... as if we haven't heard that enough.

G Rtg. Att. Co. % Yds. Y/G Y/P TD Int

Brady Quinn ND 12   158.4 450 292 64.9 3919 326.6 8.7 32 7

Matt Leinart USC 13   157.7 431 283 65.7 3815 293.5 8.9 28 8

Vince Young Tex 13   163.9 325 212 65.2 3036 233.5 9.3 26 10

There's a thread called 2007 draft somewhere if you want to search for it. Off the top of my head

QB Quinn, Brohm, Henne, Palmer, Stanton

RB M Bush, Irons, Darby, Peterson, Lynch

WR C Johnson, D Jarrett, Smardzija, Hill

TE Olsen

With Spring Ball going on, Peterson (and OU) are putting out info that he really wants to stay all four years. I think it is just PR.

But, this is what is on the local news in OK.

No Ted Ginn Jr at WR for you?

My theory is that healthy junior RB's who will be picked in the top 5 ALWAYS go pro. DeAngelo Williams went back for his senior season because he broke his leg in his bowl game. Ricky Williams is the last highly rated junior RB who was healthy that went back for his senior season. Anyone have some others who stayed in school?

Caddy and Ronnie spring to mind.

Marshawn Lynch is a remarkable talent; he is a significantly more impressive running back than JJ Arrington. He is extremely difficult to tackle, has great field vision and moves, and good speed. Almost every time he touches the ball he does something amazing. If I were coaching him, I'd tell him that he needs to go down a little easier sometimes, to save his body and avoid fumbles. Sometimes he'll be stood up, wrestling with three defenders and refusing to go down. I've seen him break out of those situations sometimes, but overall he'd do better to be a little pickier about his fights. Still, the guy has a ton of heart and he's electric with the ball.

True, but they were not grading as top 5 after their Jr year. Ronnie did not grade top 5 until he started working out.You could add Benson to that list. But, at the moment, I cannot think of a Jr. RB graded to be top 5 after his Jr. year period. Seems like generally, for an RB, it really takes that Sr. year to develop a little more and get top 5 consideration. But, I think Peterson will definately be a guy getting top 5 consideration after next year.

That is a great tip, Thanks. Can anyone else confirm this?

I thought about Benson as well, but it was his senior year that make him a top 5 pick. He had a good junior year, but he would have been competing with underclassmen RB's Steven Jackson and Kevin Jones.

Does anyone say that they aren't planning to play their senior year?

I totally agree. That is why I said I think it is just PR. Hard to sell as many tickets, or get real excited, if he comes out and says "I am gone after the season. Nice knowing you".

If you have had the pleasure of seing Peterson live, I can guarantee no one would pass up the chance to see him even if he said he was coming out. The guy is awesome to watch but you get a much bigger appreciation of him when you're there. I'm sure it was the same as seeing Reggie Bush in person.

He makes an interesting comment in the Daily Oklahoman about maybe he'd "pull a Jason White" by returning.

He also stated many former players have told him to stay because then it becomes a business.

I think he will go but Manning, Leinart, etc have stayed, so ya never know.

For selfish reasons, I'd love for him to stay but don't see it happening.

I have seen him and agree to a point. I do think everything said at this time of year is pretty much worthless. Never heard a coach say his recruiting class stinks. Never heard a player say he was leaving after the year. Just does not happen. But, if anything was learned in Norman by Jason White, it is that he should have come out a year earlier. Also, Leinart cost himself some dough by not going pro last year. I cannot imagine him not selected over Smith by SF. I understand his reasons and he had to make the decision for his best interest.

But, on the point of Peterson. If he even hints now that he "could" leave at the end of the year, it would be a point of contention if things do not go right this season. If he has a lingering injury, the fans would say he is saving himself for the NFL. If the Sooners underperform, Peterson will be criticised. But, by saying he will come back, people will give him the benefit of the doubt. Also, you never know where an injury or poor performance would make it so he needs to come back and he does not want to burn the bridge. He is not in the same spot Jimmy Wilkerson was and HAD to go pro. Peterson can wait, be patient, and make a good decision. And, he will go pro.

Lynch is the real deal, he's going to climb up the draft boards after next year, barring injury. Him and JJ Arrington have nothing in common, JJ is more of a burst one juke runner. Lynch is very shifty, and runs with a lot of power.

Bush ;)

IIRC, it was a rumor that Peterson thought about going pro under that Clarett ruling. Honestly, with his all out every play style, he would be wise to go pro. He seems to take his share of hits and had nagging injuries most of 2005. I would be more worried if he stayed four years versus three years. I would rather he carry those 25 times a game as pro (and yes I live in texas).

If Peterson stays healthy in 2006
That certainly will be quite a task the way it's been going for OU on the OL front lately.

Yes.
