Ingram's Value go up now? Other NO RB? (1 Viewer)

Well officially Sproles has a broken hand and had surgery making him out for the next few weeks.

Obviously this makes PT a real number 2

What happens with the other RB?

Does Ingram get an increase in touches making him fantasy relevant?

Does Ivory start playing?

How about Cadet?

Honestly, we won't truly know until this Mon but if I had to guess..

Ivory is non consequential to this equation. If Ingram or PT went down, then he would get a bump.

Ingram gets a slight bump but is still a volume runner. He'd need 20 touches a game with a competent defense behind him to be fantasy relevant.

Cadet is someone to keep an eye on and is clearly the highest upside WW pick up. His skill set is the most similar to Sproles' of all the other NO backs.

I have been thinking about this as well. I don't know anything about Cadet. My immediate reaction is this is a window for Chris Ivory to get some playing time - Vitt said last week he would get a shot, so maybe now is his time.

The thing is, Ivory has caught one reception in his entire career. If they wanted to play Ivory, they should have replaced Ingram with him. As it stands, slotting him in does nothing to fill the void Sproles is leaving behind.

I question how this benefits Pierre Thomas. Sproles has been seeing about 3 carries per game. Outside of that, are PT owners thinking he is going to catch 7-9 passes out of the backfield with Sproles gone?

I own Pierre Thomas but probably will not start him because of this news (starting Lynch and DMC at RB, Nicks at flex), but I think he gets a bump to a mid-range RB2 if you need someone. I think Lance Moore benefits more than anyone, as he's typically done well with the short pass game when running backs have been out.

Pierre is also an excellent pass catcher out of the backfield.Only negative is Ingram could vulture TDs.

Thomas caught 50 passes last year with Sproles in the picture..

I was not questioning PT's ability to catch...just pointing out that Sproles is a role player. That role has been greatly diminished this year, and if the Saints are looking to have someone else play the role of Sproles - it probably isn't PT.

Mike Triplett of the New Orleans Times-Picayune confirms Pierre Thomas is likely to see the biggest increase in touches and production following Darren Sproles' hand fracture.Triplett expects a "little" more action for Mark Ingram, and Chris Ivory may now be active on game days. We'd add that UDFA Travaris Cadet can do some of the same things Sproles did in the passing game, although he's not nearly as explosive a football player. Thomas' value skyrockets from low-end flex option to locked-in RB2/flex with legitimate RB1 scoring potential in a high-powered offense, though. He needs to be in lineups for Week 9 against Philly.

As I see it he has been getting about 7 touches per game leading up to today.

Thomas was getting about 8 rushes 2 receptions/game.

Sproles 3-4 rushes and about 5-6 receptions a game.

Assuming PT gets the 3rd down receiving work with maybe a couple to Cadet and Ivory is not involved in the rush attack I can see the following:

Thomas 9 rushes 5 receptions

Ingram 10 rushes

Cadet 1 rush 1-2 receptions

So if Ingram also gets some goal line work and or if he gets a bit of a hot hand on 1st and second down leading to 12-13 carries we might see 40-70 yards +/- a Td from him

Thomas could get you 40-50 rushing and simialr number receiving and possibly a TD.

:wall:

Thank goodness we heard about this after Charles played. Great, now, I get a freaking donut. Slim to no pickings in a 20 player roster 12 team league. WTF. I knew Charles was a bad play, but this news is nice to find out now.

Sproles was essentially a pass receiver this year and hasn't topped 5 carries since Week 3. Some of that short area pass receiving will go to Pierre Thomas, and both WR Lance Moore and TE Jimmy Graham will benefit a bit.

Where this helps Ingram to a small degree is that he'll get an uptick in carries while Thomas is being emphasized on pass routes. With a little more time on the field maybe he'll begin to feel a groove and get a "hot hand" as coaching staffs are liking to call it these days.

Ivory benefits simply by being active on game day which means he could get his chance if there's an in-game injury or continued ineffectiveness with Ingram.

Cadet? Who knows. I guess his value is that he's now a Pierre Thomas injury away from some action, but there are still a lot of mouths to feed ahead of him.

Wish this news broke yesterday before I started Charles
Count yourself lucky. I have Charles, Morris, Sproles and Dwyer. I have to find someone who will actually play. I was kind of happy that I chose Sproles/Morris based on Charles' meh perfomance last night. Right now, I would take those 9 points in a heartbeat.

Sproles' skill set is almost one of a kind. Not many RBs can do what he does consistently. Of course, Cadet is the nxt closest thing they have to Sproles on the roster, but that doesn't mean they should play him. They likely won't be able to have anyone emulate what Sproles was doing so giving PT more reps is the next logical choice.

Great post- Could see lot bigger PPR jumps for Moore and Graham.

I'm waiting to see if they activate Cadet.

If they do, I'm pouncing.

All this talk about trading Ingram or Ivory, now you see why. The Saints need their backups and hate to be bereft in the event of injury. They carry 5 halfbacks alone, plus a fullback.

It's hard to imagine Ingram or Ivory really becoming FF worthy. If Peyton were around I would feel better about them.

This season is just awesome. Awesome, just awesome.

When Pierre burst on the scene in the second half of 2008 he was the master of that little screen pass from around the 20 into the end zone. I see him being a nice play for the next three weeks until the SF game. RB2

This. if my memory serves me correctly, Moore almost always has big games when sproles is out. Big bump for Lance.

It dates back to when R.Bush was in town. He stands to benefit from increased short yardage work. The injury to Sproles, couples with the fact the Moore is at home this week makes me think he's a solid, if not high-upside WR2 play. Also, let's not forget, PT has has durability issues with an increased workload in the past. Hopefully he can hold up, but I tend to think this was one of the main reasons NO shied away from him after the 2010 season.

 He's been in the league 8 years and has missed 2 games - one each in 2005 and 2006 when he was a Charger.

Your memory is confusing Bush from several years ago with the present. Maybe the pattern holds, but IMO PT gets the bump.

Hilarious topic - can't imagine why anyone other than desperate Ingram owners would think Mark is about to see his role change significantly.

I wouldn't count on much production from Cadet. Ivory should have more of an increased role than Cadet who is now at WR.

“Darren is a special guy,” Carmichael said. “Cadet had done some of those things in the preseason. We had moved him to receiver so right now he’s focusing on that position. We’ve got Pierre (Thomas), Mark Ingram. Chris Ivory has a chance to step into a role. Next man up.”

Would not say hilarious. Every time someone goes down with an injury someone else picks up the slack. If PT was already getting 10-12 touches a game I don't see him going up to 20. He is a hard physical runner who breaks a lot of tackles. That style of running is not great for a heavy load. True Sproles was more of a backfield receiver. But while PT is a good receiver out of the backfield he is not Sproles. Not having that same outlet will lead to probably 4-5 more touches a game by Ingram. Given his style of running improves with more carries this might be enough to get him going.

We can all hate on him but they did trade up for him just 1 year ago into the first round. He was marred with injuries last year and early this year. If this season is on the skids for them with no playoffs in sight, maybe it is time to try to showcase him more to see exactly what they have, if not for them in the future, then for other teams as trade material next year to recoup a decent draft pick for him.
