Inside Out - New Pixar Movie (1 Viewer)

Took my two to it Friday. 10yo son liked it a lot. 13yo daughter said it was ok. I thought it was decent, but I was expecting it to be funnier after having seen a couple of funny trailers. Definitely not bad, just wasn't up there with Toy Story or Despicable Me. I'd put it below Up, even.

Inside Out was very well done, but I thought the subject matter was a little TOO deep for kids and unlikely to get them very excited. My 6 year old loves the Toy Story movies and Cars movies, but was pretty bored with this one. It honestly felt like more of an adult movie than a kid movie.

And I agree that the Lava short wasn't very good. Boring, predictable, and didn't engage me emotionally like it wanted to.
I agree with this guy.

Took my 5 year old daughter to see Inside Out yesterday. She liked it but was bored a lot of the time. I think the movie was a little over her head. I highly doubt she asks to see it again when it comes out on DVD.

My 11-year old niece liked the movie. I thought the movie was good but not really a good kids movie.

The Lava short was not good.

Worst short I can remember and Inside Out takes most boring Pixar flick title from Finding Nemo.

Looks like things going downhill fast at Pixar.

It was very good. Not great. Just below the median for Pixar films. Same goes for the short that preceded it.

Huh. I came away from it thinking that things were going back up. It was certainly much better than the last two I've seen - Cars 2 (I don't think I even got all the way through that one it was so bad) and Brave (which was just okay but not memorable at all to me). I still haven't seen Monsters U.

Then again, I thought Finding Nemo was awesome. Admittedly, there was/is an extra personal attachment for me to that movie, but I doubt I'm alone in thinking that was one of the better Pixar flicks.

I liked Inside Out a lot. My wife and 16 year old daughter loved it. My 13 year old son thought it was okay, probably because he had less to relate to in the movie.

I'm never that into the shorts anyway, but the very beginning of Lava grabbed me and then there just wasn't anything to the rest. And like my son said, the whole "lava you" thing was a forced stretch. It's amazing how much more character was built into the recent dog one with the owner and his girlfriend and the food.

Lots of hairy bears in SF line was great.
The opinions and facts line was good too
:goodposting:

Another thing they absolutely nailed (did they base this on my daughter??) :

The memory cleanup crew, especially the line about 4 years of piano and only leaving the Chopsticks (and one other?) memory.

And the gum commercial, of course.

My 6 yo Daughter loved it. Wife and I enjoyed as well. Thought it was very good.

The wife and I had a WTF moment with the short though...

Watched it today with family (boys 12, 11 and little girl 8) thought it was great. Agree the theatre was dusty towards the end. Always been a Lewis Black fan, had to describe him to our kids as the bug expert from BBT. Thought the short was OK, but I was in the minority. We got to see a bit before the previews that was a bunch of Easter eggs in Pixar movies that was kinda cool.

The general opinion of the movie was that they set themselves up nicely (if the wanted to) for a sequel.

We liked the part at the end where the went in to other peoples heads to view their emotions. Liked the teacher, the bus driver and the cat.

The gum commercial was well done too.

I liked the closing credit where they jumped into the boy's head, and the teacher's. And the clown....6 years of drama school for this?

wait... people didn't like Finding Nemo? (and if so, I'm using the word "people" loosely).
Maybe its just me, I found it pretty boring. The first Pixar movie I didn't buy and one of the few I've only seen once.

Didn't bother with Cars 2 or the Planes movies. Brave was meh too.

Bah humbug and get off my lawn.

RE: The Lava short

Does everyone realize that Hawaiian culture is filled with this sort of story or "legend"? Every mountain formation or bay of water has some tale behind it like that and I thought it was a cool tribute to that.

Yeah that's what I figured. I just assumed it was a visual adaptation of a Hawaiian folk tale.

That song was horrible.

Planes is not a Pixar movie.

This is the list of movies released after Finding Nemo. If you did not enjoy these, why would you even bother going to see Inside Out?

The Incredibles

Cars

Ratatouille

WALL-E

Up

Toy Story 3

Cars 2

Brave

Monsters University

Overall I liked it. When I figured out the short was about Hawaii I thought, OK, but the song and execution was pretty dreadful. They need to stick to comedy in these shorts.

I thought it dragged a bit at times when trying to find their way back to command. They could have used more of the interaction with other people's minds like with the mom and dad at the dinner table. Sorta like they did at the end credits, but sprinkled throughout the movie.

The ending was well done.

Went to a 4:15 showing and arrived at 4:45 with my twin 4yos. Skipped lava and the previews. Not bad. Was a bit all over the place but had the dusty moments.

Very clever movie. Not really funny but we enjoyed it. My son cracked up at the "I will die for you Riley" part

I can't get that stupid lava song out of my head  I have a dream I hope will come true..

I thought the movie was ok. Nothing special. My wife hated it.

I agree with you on Inside Out. It seemed to drag on forever. But Nemo was very good imo.

Took 16 10 you yesterday for my son's birthday. Everyone enjoyed it but I wouldn't say they were raving.
Took the 8 and 3 (almost 4) yos. pretty much the same. thought it was solid, and definitely hit the emotions well (appropriate, given the story-line). I think it was a bit old for the 3yo- probably better for the 8-preteen set (same age as the kid).

definitely some funny stuff for the adults.

kept trying to figure out what the Lava thing had to do with the story... wasn't blown away by that one either.
lava was just a short. Had nothing to do with the movie. Almost all Disney movies have shorts before them these days. I dont remember which movie it was, but the dog who finds the guys ex girlfriend was much better than this one imo
I thoght the movie was pretty good. definitely heard a lot of grownups laughing during the flick, especially at Anger's flipouts. Lewis Black was a great bit of casting there. MY 12YO daughter liked it (and the awful short) alot, my 6YO son was kind of meh.

Highy reccomend the DVD version of all the Pixar shorts. Better than some of the movies. Pesonal fave is Jack Jack from the Incredibles

Are they making these movies overseas these days? I heard they do the story board, etc. Here and then most of the computer work is outsourced to cheaper labor markets.
Pixar films are made 100% in their headquarters in Emeryville, CA.

(Since they shut down their Vancouver office, Emeryville is back to being their only location)
But Disney is no angel. They just bring workers in on H-1B visas and fire the American workers after they have them train the new foreign employees to do their job. The visas were never supposed to displace American workers.

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/opinion/os-disney-layoffs-visas-beth-kassab-20150608-column.html

From the article:

"I just couldn't believe they could fly people in to sit at our desks and take over our jobs exactly," one former worker, who wasn't named and is now unemployed, told The New York Times. "It was so humiliating to train somebody else to take over your job. I still can't grasp it."

I suspect that happens too often.. It's short-sighted for Disney, but in the corporate world of quarterly earnings quick-fixes are used a lot.

When Riley was running away because Joy was lost I just kept thinking so this is how crack whores are born.

After the movie, my daughter asked me which one she was most like. And I told her she was most like Bing Bong. Loved that guy!

My 6 yr old didn't really like it. Said the middle was too sad. 4 yr old loved it but just for the goofy stuff.

I wasn't too entertained. My top three Pixar is very safe.

1 Ratatouille

2 Finding Nemo

3 Toy Story 3

Surprised nobody mentioned how sad the Bing Bong scene was.

"Take her to the moon for me"

My jaw was about on the ground. That was incredibly sadder than I was expecting.

My kids were a bit upset but got over it pretty quick.
