Are players getting concussions that much this year? Seems like half the players in the league have taken a big shot to the head at some point.

Defensive players are, in the words of the old Bionic Man show, "bigger, stronger, faster." I think it's just a high velecity rocket hitting a not quite as big object, which is going to cause damage.
