Interesting Vick Stat (1 Viewer)

I find it very interesting that the falcons lost every game this year that Vick led the team in rushing. 0-7. They also won every game but one that his passer rating was above 95. 4-1. The game they lost happened to coincide with one of the games he co-led them in rushing.

Not really sure what this means, but I do think it is worth noting and discussing.

It means a good RB doesn't necessarily make a good QB.

I think you do know what it means.
Thats not true. I looked back to last year and couldnt really see the exact correlation, although the sample size is a lot smaller because Vick hardly led the team in rushing last year. Maybe in some games where they are losing and not running well he has to take off more. Maybe in the games they are losing he is the only one doing the running because they are playing catch-up. These are what i was hoping vick haters/supporters would bring to the table. I also couldnt get the game logs for 2004 or 2003 to come up on my screen for whatever reason.

Another interesting stat I heard a game or two ago was that Vick has lost something like the last 18 games when his team was losing going into the 4th qtr.

Fixed.

Wasn't one Vick bashing thread good enough for you? Fess up, he stole your girl friend.

I think it was more 'board' accurate in the original rendition. I mean people LOVE to point to Vick's winning percentage when anyone questions his QB skillset. :pickle:

I thought they loved to point to his WRs, coaches, and/or offensive system... anything BUT him.

What I don't get is why the Atlanta defense is less effective when Vick is out. Over the past 5 seasons, the defense has allowed 20 ppg in games with Vick but 28 ppg when Vick is out.

How many games has it been? what is the strength of the opponents? I don't think they have a huge TOP advantage with Vick at QB do they?

63 games with Vick, 16 games without him. The majority of those games were when Vick broke his leg/ankle before the 2003 season, so that is what is skewing the numbers.

This would be my best guess, although it's really hard to say. Hard to figure out correlation/causation in a case like this.
The Falcons 4 - 2 record when he was the teams leading rusher in those 2004 games that hburgers11 dug up, makes me think coincidence more than anything.

How many of those coincided with Dunn and/or Norwood being out or missing significant playing time to injury? Those guys are the second and third best skill players on the offense - I'd expect things to not be so rosy when they're not able to play. Follow on - in those games did the Falcons rush for above, below or at their season rushing average?

wow sea bass, i feel so "owned". You got me good buddy. i have been very hurt by Vick stealing my girlfriend. Now i am incapable of having an objective discussion about certain Vick stats.

When you're ahead, you run. When you're trailing, you pass. That's Offensive Coordinator 101.

But in the Falcons' case, you'd never risk your franchise QB by having him run out the clock when the team has the lead. That's the primary reason why Vick doesn't lead the team in rushing when they win -- he lets the RBs take the pounding.

Conversely, Vick runs a lot when they're trailing because it's just as effective for him as passing is for other QBs.

Perfectly logical explanation...except for the 2004 season when the Falcons went 4 - 2 in the games Vick lead the team in rushing.

Johnson and Kittner were so bad that year that it probably seriously affected the defense just with the awful field position and all the turnovers.

True, if you are going to completely ignore clock management.

I don't have the number in front of me, but I believe that was because Vick hadn't thrown a TD ion the 4th quarter for something like 10 straight games. Maybe he tires himself out too much? That is a very strong possibility. If I had a QB like Vick, i would rest him after a big run sometimes or maybe a series and treat him like a start RB.

Wow. Thanks for getting that. I am shocked that isn't talked about more. That is very telling. Maybe a little rest for the running QB's is a smart idea? Mcnabb puking at times is understandable if you ask me. You are asking these guys to be running all the time and nobody can have that type of endurance.
