So, I've recently re-revisited, after re-revisiting many times, Turn On The Bright Lights. Sounds great with the top down in the summer, for whatever weird reason.

What do you guys think?

TOTBL is by far their best album--I still listen to it fairly often.

I would give TOTBL an 8 but if I have to rank the other 2 in with it then the overall rating drops to a 6.

They sound more like JD than the Doors.

Radiohead is the better band by a significant margin.

I agree with most of this. I think my rating might be a bit high. That said, Our Love To Admire came in succession for me rather quickly, and I felt Banks's Morrison-esque vocals overpowered everything Division-y about them.

Radiohead is better than every band suggested in these polls other than Weezer. (Oof. I'm such an American sucker for harmony and barbershop quartets and waltz time, etc.)

I think I need to give El Pintor a spin. It's held in high regard around here. I sort of gave up after Carlos Dengler left.

9

Antics (I need to revisit TOTBL though. Just listen to PDA now and then)

Joy Division

Radiohead

Huh. Since this thread is bumped, now is the time to possibly rethink my Doors position. Everybody has Joy Division.

It's just...that voice and its place in the mix on Our Love To Admire.

I never thought of The Doors because the signature of their music is highly melodic, with Interpol its driving and rhythmic.

They are the Filet O'Fish of bands. I enjoy em when I have em. I wonder why I don't get them more often when I do have them. But in reality, a few times per year is plenty.

guy knows how to sing one note. ONE NOTE.

still enjoy them as a 6-7, but the one note thing gets old to me.

never even considered a doors influence... willl have to check that out. but as such, I went with JD... even though I'm not really seeing that either.

JD >>>>> RH >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Interpol

Heh. A quick -- very quick -- read of the Interpol official message board seems to pooh pooh comparisons, especially to Joy Division. That's long been a complaint about Interpol, IIRC.

And it's everybody's parents saying that Paul Banks sounds like Morrison. :bag:

They hate the comparison to Joy Division because their favorite band sounds like Joy Division

I'm the only vote for Our Love to Admire, but its a great album

Best Song: Evil

Great band - one of my favorites to come from the early-mid 2000s. I voted a solid 8, but not nearly as good as Radiohead.

I thinking that when I'm cruising and feeling good, singing that "it's different now that I'm poor and aging" is the way to go. Follow that up with some "you go stabbing yourself in the neck" and you've got a party!

TOTBL, Antics and El Pintor are all pretty great. Our Love to Admire is OK. Self-titled doesn't exist.
I agree with the three greats, but I think the self titled from 2010 is decent and that OLtA is horrible.

So five records -- 1 All time record , 2 greats, one decent, one bad. TotBL is flawless.

They're in the top 20 bands of the last 15 years.

I'm going to have to give their other albums more listens--they all seemed so mediocre to me after a few spins and I didn't bother after that.

Top twenty bands of the last 15 years?......hmm. That could be a fun challenge.

I think it was The New that blew me away upon giving the latter half of the album more of a chance than previously. It didn't have to be joyous, just immersive.

I'm a fan, I loved Antics and Turn On The Bright Lights, but I just dunno that I can get behind the bolded.
