The issue isn't that flash is proprietary. Even open source flash would be unacceptable to Apple due to the S/W needs and security concerns.

How do you know that? If Adobe were an open platform that were fleshed out and approved by a standards body and accepted by the open software community, maybe they WOULD allow it? HTML5 allows for the same types of animations/applications, and Apple doesn't seem to have a problem with supporting HTML5, right? Basically, the only person this hurts is Adobe. That's ok by me.

HTML5 doesn't load anything onto the processor afiak. So it would be harder to implement games and things like that. And not just Yeti Baseball either. Apple would prefer to sell you an application to then load on their processor to run after it's vetted. Flash would rather sell dev kits to then put it on your processor without regards to vetting. These aren't in alignment. HTML5 would solve the issue of developers putting news-type content into a viewable form on pads and phones, but the game and photo/video ap. issue would still have gaps. This is a high level summary. I'm a battery guy, not a software guy.

Re: the bolded, I can't blame apple for that. If the industry-standard HTML5 doesn't need to load up stuff on a low level onto the processor to function, why should I let Adobe do that? Maybe these are the sorts of reasons Apple products tend to be a lot more stable than PCs?

I don't have a problem with it. It's annoying that I won't be able to view certain websites etc., but hopefully those running websites will port things over from Flash (given the wild success of iPhone and iPad, I assume it's only a matter of time).

There's a difference between not great and 100% washed out as in the photo. Like I said the two guys here have complained about it in bright light but that photo is a lot worse than what I have seen the few times I've had it one of them outside. Thinking back the days have been over cast a lot lately.So my question was regarding the photo and if everyone is running the thing cranked up to 100% outside and if so is it unusable like the photo shows?

Not surprised in the slightest PS, O, got the Apple iPad Case. Way better than the inCase bulky thing I had before. Has the benefits of protective/book-like, but has a really slim feel as well. I did have this case at first (returned it) but was turned off by what I thought was really cheaply put together. Didn't even know about the hook in the back to prop the iPad up. Huge thanks; decided to try it again and love it. Also, the store near me just got a bunch in, have you gone back to your store to see if they have some? FWIW, the cases have a 14 day return policy. Manager had to override my return. They do get excited when you're buying the Apple Case but I also had some problem (slightly made up) with the inCase case getting sticky/glue leaking onto my iPad. Not sure if you care about $60, but it's worth a try.

It's not 3G, but it would just be for some limited use while on the move. I did some web research this morning and from what I saw it looks like it may not even be possible.

I had tethered my Macbook through my old blackberry a few years ago and it worked well. I'm just guessing the iPad won't have all the drivers/communications stuff needed to set up the connection. I didn't see any apps available for this either. I'm assuming AT&T/Apple are tightly controlling the ability to do stuff like this.

The only other option I read about is somehow setting up my Blackberry to act as a wifi hotspot. Again, though, I didn't see any Blackberry apps that let me do this.

Get an iphone then

Jailbreak your iPhone, and download mywi it's supposed to turn your iPhone into a wifi hot spot. I'd imagine you would be able to join that wifi network with the iPad.

Might be a dumb question, but is there something stopping you from plugging it directly into your blackberry? it's simple enough to set up a connection in the blackberry.

I had tethered my Macbook through my old blackberry a few years ago and it worked well. I'm just guessing the iPad won't have all the drivers/communications stuff needed to set up the connection. I didn't see any apps available for this either. I'm assuming AT&T/Apple are tightly controlling the ability to do stuff like this.

The only other option I read about is somehow setting up my Blackberry to act as a wifi hotspot. Again, though, I didn't see any Blackberry apps that let me do this.

In that case it has to be possible. I need to figure this out... it would make the wifi version a no-brainer (which is why I'm guessing they don't make this too easy).

Might be a dumb question, but is there something stopping you from plugging it directly into your blackberry? it's simple enough to set up a connection in the blackberry.

Have you guys looked into tethering at all? I have a Blackberry Curve 8900 and would LOVE it if I could figure out a way to tether the iPad through this to get internet. It's not 3G, but it would just be for some limited use while on the move. I did some web research this morning and from what I saw it looks like it may not even be possible.

RIM has to have an app somewhere to make the bb a wifi hot spot, I don't think ipad does bluetooth for that purpose, we tried here and couldn't get it to work but the other app worked fine, bit slow but served its purpose
