If Apple offers a $299 model with only 8 GB that is a high price point with such low memory. No way that model sells much. If they sell a 16 GB at that price there will be many more converts. They will only be able to do that if the new iPads come in 32, 64, and 128 GB's. I see/want that to happen.

Highly disagree, a $299 iPad 2 would sell like hot cakes, even with only 8 GB of memory. The Fire is selling well enough with only 8 GB; another $100 to jump up to an iPad with a larger screen, expanded functionality and the Apple ecosystem would be highly attractive to buyers.

How about a $299 8 GB iPad2 with an enticement towards iCloud? In theory (in their eyes) this should cover some issues with the smaller amount of memory. Just a thought.

Absolutely, I think it could be a great entry level product. iCloud certainly makes this viable.

I think the argument is paying for it.A lot of devices have the hotspot built in but can not be used without paying extra. Rooting/Jailbreaking allows you to use that service "for free".

What's the resolution they were downloaded at?Could be a few things - resolution to high, fps too high, used an xvid codec instead of H264

Yeah I used to have a app that would let you tehter with USB, then had one to hot spot.... Verizon at one point caught up and locked them all up on my phone. I'm not rooting my new phone but it appears those apps don't work anymore. So when I enable my hotspot it takes me to a Verizon screen to sign up. Honestly I would get an Ipad to have an apple product. I'm more than satisfied with my phone.

It's free for me CSpire says they charge for it, but they don't. I've been tethering like a madman since November and my bill has always been $49/mo plus tax. First month I had 8GB of data. They never batted an eye.

run it through videora for 3gs. it will take care of it. there are some codec issues on that phone and mp4 is a fungible designation.

Same happens with the iPhones (granted these are subsidized prices) with the iPhone 4 dropping to $99 while the 4S took the $199 spot.

Don't know for sure. I know they often stock refurb computers, but their stock changes so often you need to ask for availability. Just call them, or better yet order one from the Apple online store.

I was thinking about picking one up before I headed for FL on Wed., assuming I could get a refund if they drop the price after Wednesday's announcement. But at this point I may just wait until I get back to see what gets announced.

Agreed. I've held off so far, but I'd buy a $299 iPad 2 the first day they dropped the price.

Yeah, price is not nor should be a concern. There will be tons of ICS Tablets this year in the ~300 range with more horsepower and full features, Amazon among them. Just this alone doesn't seem to be hitting demand for the ipad. People will still snap them up like crazy.

The fact that Amazon was able to have success creating a low-end tablet doesn't mean that the iPad market has changed for Apple; Apple is still selling every iPad they can make so it would be hard to prove whether the Fire has taken sales from Apple or if this low-end is a separate market all together. Rumors also persist of a 7" iPad model coming in 2012. That could very well be the eventual low-end model, with the iPad 2 being mid-range and the iPad 3 high end.

ICS is nice. The "dashboard" concept is well imagined with that system. Eventually iOS will go that way as well. The implementing of notifications on Ios5 was a move in that direction.

I think there is a portion of the market like myself who hasn't and may not spend $499 on a tablet, but who would prefer an Apple product. As I already said, I'd buy a $299 iPad 2 the day it was available. I might spend $399. If I can get a refurbished one for $349 or so, I'd probably go that route. After my less than impressive experience with my Droid X, I'm not going the Android route.Now how large is that portion of the market? Maybe not large enough to incentivize Apple to drop the price of the iPad 2 to $299. But I guess we'll find out soon enough.

Wifey has the wifi only original ipad and it's been great. I'm buying her a wifi only ipad 3 the day it comes out. My 2 year old gets the ipad 1 that she has basically taken over anyway.

32 seems to be the sweetspot . I have a wifi 16gb gen 1 and all things equal would buy the same setup again. I stream everything .

It depends what you are using it for. I have the wifi only version and it mostly just comes around the house with me and I take it on vacation where I know wifi is going to be around. If you are going to travel extensively with it you may want to go for the 3G.

I'm not trying to sound homerish cause I really don't care but this type of stuff is why I hate big companies.Now if Google did really steal something they should be held accountable but this reads that apple is just worried or upset that google is becoming stronger. If I read it right, Android was first developed to compete with blackberry but once that went south they "switched" to focus on touch products

STRONG rumors that it will be called iPad HD as a result of the Retina Display and being the only tablet that can show full 1080p. On the whim, I've locked up ipadhdcase.com and ipadhdca.se. Figure worst case I'm out $30 or so. Best case they're worth more than enough of a premium to buy myself somethin nice.

Not really. The built in email client is designed to be a single user setup. For what you're doing I'd suggest just using two different browsers (ie Atomic for the more savvy person and Safari for the less savvy). But it's not intended to be an at-home everyone-has-their-own-login type of device. When you open the mail client just set them all up and name them differently. Sure you would be able to see the other persons email but only if you went into them.

I'm just confused why it would be like in an iphone/blackberry/droid phone

I open the email client and then select the one I want to read the emails (gmail, yahoo, work, comcast).Why can't you just add the wifes email the same way. So when you open up the mail client you then select which one you want to look at. Unless apple is done differently than blackberry/android. Sure. I have 3 different e-mail accounts on my iPhone.But I think he's looking for something like a different login for each user where they would only see their e-mail/apps/etc.
