Why are teams waiting so long to place players that are definitely out for the season on IR? (Ware, Meredith and Enunwa)
Players do not go on waivers before going on IR. Any injured player who will take a significant time to recover can go on IR.I believe it has to do with players having to clear waivers to go on IR. I believe (not totally sure) that at a certain point players can go on IR and not get poached by another team.
No one would want him. The Dolphins were hoping some one would claim him.CaGamblers said:Tannehill was already placed on IR
Anarchy was right. You go straight to IR after a certain date, but during the preseason, players have to clear waivers with less than 4 years in the league.moondog said:Players do not go on waivers before going on IR. Any injured player who will take a significant time to recover can go on IR.
Players who do not make the 53 man roster on cut down day have to go through waivers IF they have less than 4 years of accrued NFL seasons.
Drafted players and UFAs who do not make the 53 have to clear waivers before they can go a practice squad. Any team claiming one of these players must put them on their 53 man roster.
It means they will all go on IR Monday morning.Does these changes to roster cut down deadlines mean that NFL teams will have to place players on IR by this Sunday's deadline? Or am I misunderstanding the details?
Tannehill has more than 4 accrued seasons.CaGamblers said:Tannehill was already placed on IR
This isn't entirely correct. There are two categories of players - "Vested Veterans" and Non-vested Players. Any player that has accrued 4 years of seniority is a Vested Veteran. Vested Veterans do not need to clear waivers before being placed on IR, but Non-vested Players do. Those players are put on waivers with the designation Waived/Injured and, if they clear waivers, the team can then reach an injury settlement, paying them some agreed partial salary and they are then a Free Agent, or place them on Injured Reserve, thus keeping their existing contract terms in place.moondog said:Players do not go on waivers before going on IR. Because he's a Vested Veteran he wasn't subject to waivers so they had no risk of losing him.CaGamblers said:Tannehill was already placed on IR
Those guys aren't going on IR or PUP as far as I know.In a similar thought, who are the players that can likely fill a fantasy IR slot the first few weeks?
