Is all the Katrina talk going to ruin the MNF game? (1 Viewer)

No more than the 9/11 talk ruined football. I think it's nice that they address larger issues to such a large audience. It gives us all a chance to reflect as a nation. If we don't want to, we can change the channel. Unless we're at a bar, in which case we can go take a leak.

I was ready to start the topic "Are Posters with a Member # over 20000 Going to Ruin This Board?". I decided against it though, and wish you had done the same.

Why dont you make that thread? Im sure Joe Bryant would really appreciate a thread ridiculing new members.

Let's just hope they mention Brett Favre a few times. Maybe madden can stop by and say........Brett Favre

Over/Under on Brett Favre: 2

I think a lot of the Katrina stuff will get covered during the pre-game show on ESPN and during halftime and pre-game festivities. I am looking forward to some shots of what the Superdome and other areas of the city looked like, and what improvements have been made in the past year. I know there is a long way to go, but it will be nice to see some signs of progress. I think the Katrina story becomes a distraction if the broadcasters talk about the event every play during the play-by-play but I honestly don't see that happening.

Easy seque, given that Favre's family took a hit during the hurricane. I'll take the over on that one, although it's mitigated by Madden not doing the MNF broadcast anymore.

Everything has it's place. It may not be important to you, but to countless others it's needed as a time of remembrance/rebirth. A whole LOT of people had their world turned upside down and a whole LOT of people stepped up to do amazing things. It was an ugly time but one that should be recognized in one fashion or another. This seems to be a fitting venue.

For me... it's the tenth game of a 10 game teaser... but I won't begrudge those who look at the game for other reasons.

IMHO.

Heh... it's not that great... 10 game, 6 point teaser. Well... actually 9 game since Baltimore pushed at -1. I have Atlanta at +2 tonight. Was a small bet.... $8 that pays (paid $200 at 10 games) $160. I'm thinking about hedging NO at +4.5 for about $80 to get the guaranteed money. I'm up $300 on the week so I'll take the given money and hope NO loses by 3 so I win both bets :) My picks this week were:10 Team Teaser #45904811 Football - NFL Lines (Game) NFL WEEK 3 (201) Cincinnati Bengals +7 Sun@1:00p Competitor: (202) Pittsburgh Steelers(Teased 6.0 points) Football - NFL Lines (Game) NFL WEEK 3 (203) Jacksonville Jaguars +13 Sun@1:00p Competitor: (204) Indianapolis Colts(Teased 6.0 points) Football - NFL Lines (Game) NFL WEEK 3 (205) Tennessee Titans +17 Sun@1:00p Competitor: (206) Miami Dolphins(Teased 6.0 points) Football - NFL Lines (Game) NFL WEEK 3 (207) Washington Redskins +2 Sun@1:00p Competitor: (208) Houston Texans(Teased 6.0 points) Football - NFL Lines (Game) NFL WEEK 3 (215) Baltimore Ravens -1 Sun@4:05p Competitor: (216) Cleveland Browns(Teased 6.0 points) Football - NFL Lines (Game) NFL WEEK 3 (217) St. Louis Rams +10½ Sun@4:15p Competitor: (218) Arizona Cardinals(Teased 6.0 points) Football - NFL Lines (Game) NFL WEEK 3 (220) Seattle Seahawks +2½ Sun@4:15p Competitor: (219) New York Giants(Teased 6.0 points) Football - NFL Lines (Game) NFL WEEK 3 (221) Philadelphia Eagles -½ Sun@4:15p Competitor: (222) San Francisco 49ers(Teased 6.0 points) Football - NFL Lines (Game) NFL WEEK 3 (223) Denver Broncos +13 Sun@8:15p Competitor: (224) New England Patriots(Teased 6.0 points) Football - NFL Lines (Game) NFL WEEK 3 (225) Atlanta Falcons +2 Mon@8:30p Competitor: (226) New Orleans Saints(Teased 6.0 points) Risk $7.90 to win $197.50

I may have to watch it on mute. No offense to Katrina victims, but i just want to watch football.
I will be disappointed if the pregame show doesn't have something special on Katrina, and what this day means for the Saints, their fans, and New Orleans.

Were it not for Katrina, NO wouldn't be playing on MNF.

Should be a terrible game anyway so the talk of Katrina won't really matter one way or the other.

And always remember, there are many weak minded people who need to have days like today. THey need to "remember" and "pay tribute"(I call em SHEEP). Let them have their day.

I meant more during the game, kinda like Madden going overboard on his love for farve. Pregame and half time they are obviously and rightly going to be discussing Katrina and NO and thats fine.

:goodposting:Monday Night Football, more than any other NFL broadcast except the Super Bowl is designed to reach out to a bigger audience. But even if this was the Hall Of Fame Game with just hardcore football junkies watching, it would be appropriate. MNF is always pretty electric for the stadium but this should be off the charts tonight. :thumbup:J

Hi Micon / suzy,Sounds like you answered your own question. If all you want to do is watch football, then absolutely, the mute button is your friend.

You got a 90 timeout last year for being a tool on this last year. Please don't push it again.

TIA

J
