Is Alshon Jeffery still FAT? (1 Viewer)

You have any credentials? Sports Science degree? Or are you just like the rest here and giving your opinion?I'm sure he'll look much slimmer at the combine, then what will you say?
:potkettle:
No sports science degree, but I am a trainer...and he's right.Treating your body poorly like body builders do is a terrible idea if you want to become a better athlete. It takes consistent effort and hard work to gain good weight, neither of which it sounds like Jeffrey has. This isn't the first time I've seen/read about his laziness since getting to school either. He isn't near my top 5 in dynasty rookie drafts anymore and I'll be looking for reasons to bump him out of the top 10 just to make sure I don't get him unless I see something drastically change and think this won't happen again. He won't get away with it in the NFL and will be completely overmatched if he tries.

Mind if I ask who you train and where? Do you train athletes? Or do you train the average Joe who buys a membership at the local gym? And how are qualified for the job? Did you go to school to become a trainer?Fact of the matter is, you can be a trainer for stay at home moms, or accountants, at the local gym without much qualifications, and it no where near makes you qualified to tell an athlete how he should or shouldn't build size and muscle mass. Teaching fitness, and building an athlete are 2 completely different things.I never said he was fit, or that he was on the right path. But different things work for different people. Dooming Alshon's career over a picture of him with some extra pounds packed on seems rather ridiculous, especially if you claim to be educated on the matter..

I think it's a pretty big deal that this guy has difficulty staying in shape at such an athletic position. I wouldn't doom his career, but it's a red flag for sure.

See, I'm not quite sure what you mean there.. I'm sure he's in better shape mid season then he was in that picture. And if he's not stupid, he'll be in great shape as the season ends and the combine rolls around..Natrone Means was over weight in the off season, and was never 'slim' during his NFL career.. He had a great career.. I know this, because I know Natrone..

N Means = Apples and Oranges. It's easier to be a powerful bruising back while being overweight than to beat athletic / talented cornerbacks if you're out of shape.

Sure, i can try.Junior year in college, i converted from linebacker, went from 225 to 245 since i moved to def end. Wanted to have a little extra on me since id lose some weight in camp. Ended the season at 231 through the rigors of the season. About 6% body fat.My senior year in college, i came in at 250 after knowing how much id lose. Ended that year at 238, 10. Something body fat.I dont have the science degree you seek, but i did play college ball and i have experience in gaining muscle mass and also leaning out, as us "weight lifters" as you so deemed your buddy as. if you need some help with your son, let me know? It sounds like having you as a father,he may need it.And you still have the same ignorant avatar as you did when you were posting on draft sharks. Glad nothing has changed hustler. . . Keep hustling
Boy, you get worked up easy don't you..? lolBTW - "weight lifter" & "body builder" are not one in the same..
not worked up, just wanted to point out where you were wrong.
When you have to start attacking someone personaly.. Shows weakness.. Don't get so worked up...
Another weakness is being treasurer of a league and not paying the guys out, ya know Brian?Back to topic, the picture clearly shows Jeffrey in horrible shape just a few weeks out from the most important season of his life, and his face is puffy, his arms not defined, and the glaring gut.Its a major red flag.Wild, fluctuating weight gains aren't good for anyone, yet alone an athlete. Hes a wr. He needs to be able to make quick cuts, not lumber down the field.I recall hearing similar things about beanie wells and shonn greene coming out. While it's not the death knell for him it's alarming.Go watch floyd or blackmon play and look at their bodies. Those dudes are in good shape, and it shows me they get the aspect of proper training. Discipline and maturity are needed, and you have to wonder what the heck Jeffrey is thinking?

I never claimed to know anything, only providing an alternative view.. Never made a definitive statement. Why should I need credentials to make a 'maybe if' type statement?
You could have stopped here...Yours is an 'alternative view'. Someone else's is a 'definitive statement'. As they say on ESPN, C'MON MAN!!!

I respect your right to voice your opinion here. You don't have to, but you might consider doing the same for others? If you don't have 'credentials', then don't ask for someone else's when they are here giving opinions just like you are. Your request for 'credentials' and more specific personal background info from others comes off pompus to say the very least. Especially when you admittedly have none yourself.

Look, I don't have a dog in the fight here. All I know is that if Jeffery continues to display a lack of discipline in his physical training, it will be reflected in his draft stock, his resulting draft position and ultimately his career in the NFL.

Sometimes Athletes intentionally gain weight. My son was told by his coach just 2 days ago that he needed to gain 15 pounds before next season. A friend of mine, who is a body builder, will go through spells where he's packing on all the calories he can, he get's fat-ish, then he burns much of it off as well as turning much of it into muscle during the 4-5 months before a big competition.Could be that Alshon wanted to end this season bigger, and in great shape, so he put on some extra before the season started. They do lose weight as the season goes on..
This is quite a big stretch. Talk about trying to justify something.
Not a stretch at all... If you know anything about building muscle and what the body goes through in a season of sports..
Where do you see Jeffery going in most dynasty rookie drafts?
He's probably 3-5 pick, depending on the league, wouldn't you say? Unless he has some horrible problem between now and then.. If his combine checks out, and he doesn't get to banged up before the season is over..There have been #1 overall predictions.. I don't think you can call that this early, or based on a picture..I'd be very surprised to see him going anywhere later than the #5 with what we know now. And most likely around #3 will be the average..
Would you pass on Luck for him? I sure wouldn't, even in a 4pt per TD league for passing.
I guess that would depend more on how the rest of the season, and the combine go... Then my roster and league scoring would have some bearing as well..I don't think you can call it yet..
Ok, let me refine my question.4 pts per td, 1 pt per 20 yds passing.Luck and Jeffery stay on the same course with no injuries. You don't have a great need for QB, but could use a top WR.You can't trade down, but you can trade for 2013 picks.Given these parameters, which player to you take at let's say 1.5?
If I need a WR, and we are at 1.5, I assume Blackmon is already off the board, Alshon would probably be a steal at that point. Based on Dynasty Rookie Values, I'd rank them pretty close to eachother.. Blackmon/Richardson will likely go 1.1/1.2, then Luck/Alshon go 1.3/1.4
Im taking Michael Floyd over Jeffery easily. If Ray Graham didnt tear his ACL a couple days ago, Im taking him over Jeffery. IOther guys I would definitely consider depending on where they land: LaMichael James, Ryan Broyles, David Wilson...Id guess there's a couple other guys too that Im not familiar enough with

I haven't had any issues getting paid by Brian in the one league we're in together and he's the commish. He's been a stand up commish.

I dont think I want to invest in a guy who lets himself go that much. Lot of money and free time at the next level. If you cant dedicate yourself perfecting your craft or your body, you are gonna have a tough time making it in the pros.
I feel the same way.

Wait a min here.. First off, my name isn't Brian. Second, I've never been 'treasurer' of a league and not pay out.. So, you got the wrong guy..Third, you ever want to bring into question my fatherhood again, you can meet me somewhere and we can talk about it face to face.I didn't say anything rude to you, and you're being a complete ###... Grow up, or put up, or shut up..

Brian is actually not me, but a friend of mine who lives near by.. He goes by 'Old School'.. Not 'Carolina Hustler'... And he would never keep anyone's money either..

When you make a statement in fact, you should know you're right.. He stated his opinion as if it were fact. So I asked him to qualify that fact.. Turns out it was just another opinion, as I suspected..

That's my point..

I think it's a pretty big deal that this guy has difficulty staying in shape at such an athletic position. I wouldn't doom his career, but it's a red flag for sure.

Natron had 1 great year IIRC, nowhere near a 'great' career IMO. And RBs can pack on more pounds than WRs and get away with it. I don't know many successful chubby wideouts.

Yea, guess not a great career.. But he made a good living at it for 8 years.. Dude used to get pretty chunky..

  Tar Heel here, so I saw plenty of Natrone. Jerome Bettis, Earl Campbell, George Rogers and Christian Okoye are others that immediately come to mind. Can't think of too many successful WR's who've had a tendency to get fat. Big Mike Williams is probably the only one, and I think we'd agree his career hasn't exactly been a success.

BUMP

BOURBONNAIS — The odds are against a rookie wide receiver with red flags making an impact in his first NFL season, especially with the Bears. But Alshon Jeffery has a chance to break the mold.

The 6-3, 216-pounder dropped to the Bears in the second round (50th overall) in part because of concerns about his conditioning and discipline, but he’s thriving in training camp in the shadow of Brandon Marshall.

‘‘The size, the hands, all those things you see are legit,’’ Bears wide receivers coach Darryl Drake said after practice Tuesday. ‘‘How he’s going to react in a game situation, we don’t know. But we’ll know soon.’’

The Bears’ history with wide receivers would suggest that Jeffery will hit the wall as soon as the ball is kicked off for real. But Drake suggests otherwise.

‘‘I’ve got confidence in him,’’ Drake said. ‘‘I truly believe he’ll go out there and be a dominant force.’’

This year? Or eventually?

‘‘This year,’’ he said. ‘‘He’s got the ability to do that. We have to put him out there and see what happens. Do I have confidence in him? Yes. Do we know [for sure]? No. But I’m betting on him.’’
The kid has been the talk of camp. Chicago should be a nightmare in the red zone with those beastly WRs.As an aside, I think Cutler is in for a monster season.
